@leb397 – Hey Louisa – if you go over to the “Wireless microphones for recording” chat under ‘discuss your gear’ forum, I recorded a quick (ok maybe not that quick – 5:30 min) video about that mic – maybe a tip you can use.

@leb397 – Hey Louisa – I recorded something quick (ok not that quick 5:30) for you about the Hollyland mic I just got.

@leb397 and @grannieannie – thanks so much 🥰. The mic was really easy, but maybe I will post a short video (on the page where we were talking about wireless mics) on mine and just a little tip or two that I figured out.

I am hooked on this video software package. Im going to spring for purchasing it next month. I asked ChatGPT to give me a set of 12 fundamental skills, one to learn each week, in a logical progression that would make me more proficient and more confident in using the software. One a week, so as not to overwhelm myself. You might try that with learning new software.

Oh and yes, my friends thoroughly enjoyed the music video I made. That made the effort worthwhile.

@andrew – heavy metal not really my jam, but THAT was super cool arrangement on the uke. I like the theme name – “Rocktober” – playful. Can’t wait to see what else is coming.

Hi All – This month I wasn’t working on a song or particular playing technique, but was working instead on the TECHNOLOGY side related to music, namely – wireless mic recording and creating a merged video that incorporates multiple video clips (angles/settings) that are all synced up to a single master audio track. I wanted to work on this because I often send little fun songs to family and friends and wanted to ‘up my video game’ a bit. I was also interested in the wireless mic topic because I usually record at my husband’s machine / and his mic and I don’t like that tight space.

I bought the Hollyland Lark M2 combo (which finally arrived). Really like it – very easy to use. For video editing I was going to use iMovie, but it doesn’t do the fun things I was wanting to try, so I created the video using “Final Cut Pro” (Apple product). It is quite pricey. I haven’t purchased it yet, but they have a 90 day trial, so that was nice to be able to test it out to see if I was able to put together something basic or whether it would be too complicated. (It IS complicated, but there’s a lot of help on the web for it). I didn’t do any sound editing in Garage Band – just took a couple of audio takes from the wireless mics and lined them up together for the video.

My objective was a song for friends who have their 65th wedding anniversary this month! I played a strumming version of L-O-V-E. I didn’t do the song justice with the RC101 chord melody and solo parts available, but I was really just wanting to get a very simple strumming/singing type of video because I didn’t have much time before the anniversary.

I learned a lot and although it was frustrating to use new software, I can see how powerful it is. I also think I will really enjoy the new wireless mic. Here’s what I produced. (Haven’t sent to our friends yet)

@The_Bumble_Bard – thanks so much for your kind words. You’re always so encouraging to all. And you put in a lot of effort to listen to and respond thoughtfully to the videos – not just this July challenge, but you comment on many in all the challenges. You’re a gem and I’m glad you’re here!

    Hi RC101 Team,
I’d love to suggest “To Love Somebody” (Bee Gees) for a future uke arrangement and lesson. It’s a soulful classic with an iconic intro riff, a simple and familiar structure, and tons of emotional expression — perfect for chord melody or expressive strumming.

It could work really well on high-G, low-G, or baritone (arranger’s choice!), and I think it would have strong appeal across the RC101 community. The Bee Gees are timeless, and this song could be both fun to play and meaningful to perform.

    Thanks for considering it!

    1) Execution – This month I’m going to work on the ‘technology side’ – wireless mic recording and creating a merged video that incorporates multiple video ‘takes’ (different angles or settings) that are all synced up to a single master audio track. I occasionally like to prepare uke videos for friends for special situations like anniversaries or ‘thinking of you – cheering them up’, etc. I battle a bit with the syncing of audio to video and I don’t like to be tied to my husband’s big semi-complicated audio set-up that he has, so I’m loving the idea of wireless mics. Several folks have been chatting about wireless mics which I’ve also been interested in. I’ve just purchased a Hollyland Lark M2 combo – no shipping confirmation # yet, but I’m hopeful it will arrive in a week. That wireless mic is the only equip I’m going to buy – I don’t do anything fancy enough to warrant purchasing other video hardware or software (though I’m always tempted). I have iOS platform and Apple tools and will make do with the software that comes the platform (Garage Band, QuickTime, iMovie).

    2) Application – I’ll use my new (yet to be shipped) wireless mic to record multiple audio takes (such as uke only, vocal only) and then multiple video takes (different settings or angles), pull the audio together in Garage Band, then use iMovie to sync and merge videos and master audio track together. I’d like to learn a new song also (looking at L-O-V-E because I want to do this for friends 65th anniversary), but I’m not committing to the new song part yet – LOL.

    3) Evaluation – week 1: While I wait for the hardware to arrive, work on a song (L-O-V-E?), watch YouTube videos on syncing tips that use software packages I already own.
Week 2: test out wireless microphone – figure out how to do noise cancelling, pairing, connect transmitter to various sources like iphone or imac or DSLR camera, create multiple audio takes (e.g. uke, vocal) and use Garage Band to pull it all in and sync – exporting into one master audio track.
Week 3: play with videos – multiple video takes (different angles etc) and experiment with syncing them all together.
Week 4: finally, merging master audio with the multi-take video.
On the one hand, it sounds easy, on the other hand, it sounds a little overwhelming. But I always enjoy the step of using iMovie in our monthly challenges, so I do have a bit of a head-start on the software. And I’m a tiny bit dangerous with GarageBand. Goal is to ‘up my video game’ for when I create uke videos for friends and family.

Thanks for all your posts about this type of mic. I’ve been wanting a wireless mic – been watching videos about Hollyland. Good reviews, easy to use and fairly inexpensive. I’m in!

Hi All – I learned “Rainbow Connection” this month. I was going to also sing it for you, but…nah! LOL. I enjoyed learning this one – fun. Good job everyone!

Hi All – I went with Summertime Swing this month. Wow, I have never played that far up the fretboard before! I have a couple of cutaway ukes – when I bought them, I just thought they looked cool – but they do help you reach those pesky high # frets for sure! I experimented playing this on all my instruments, including concert (ugh too small). I was leaning toward recording it on my baritone as it just felt more comfortable (bigger fret spaces? less tension on the strings-easier to fret?). But in the end, I recorded on tenor high G. Those high frets are so small I had to concentrate to keep my fingers (usually) landing in the right spots.

Hi All – I started the month playing “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay”, which was fun, but I just wasn’t ‘feeling it’ – you know what I mean? I wanted to submit something though, so I rallied to instead pick up & learn eTude #37 at the last minute. A chill vibe matching my current mood I guess. It’s an easier one from a technical perspective, but what I noticed is how much quicker I can learn a song now than say a year ago (ok, yes it’s pretty short, but still I can tell easier for my brain to understand what’s coming next – the structure).

In my rush to record something quickly before running out the door, I didn’t take the time to set my mic up nicely. I recorded it too softly and I can still hear my sock-footed rhythm toe tapping in the background LOL. If I had recorded it at a higher volume, I could have filtered out the faint toe taps I suppose, but it’s something I’ll remember next time.

    Nice job everyone!
    Natalie
