tessiertParticipantFor this challenge, I’m going to work on the two main categories of constructive criticism that I have repeatedly received from @Andrew – rhythm/pacing and reducing unwanted string noise.
1. Execution:
Rhythm/Pacing – I will be working on the most recent feedback I received (July Challenge – “You are so beautiful) to “work on memorizing it and then practicing with the tab player, playing along with Matt.”Unwanted String Noise – I will be revisiting “Yellow Submarine”, a song I did for an earlier challenge that suffers from a lot of unwanted string noise.
2. Application:
I will perform and record these two songs again at the end of the month and upload them in my second post.3. Evaluation:
For comparison and to gauge improvement, I am posting my original submission videos for these two songs below:August 4, 2025 at 11:42 am in reply to: Participate in the July 2025 Member Challenge – WIN a Custom Arrangement! #75408July 31, 2025 at 2:29 pm in reply to: Participate in the July 2025 Member Challenge – WIN a Custom Arrangement! #74603
tessiertParticipantYou are so beautiful
It’s not like I’ve ever been a big fan of this particular song, but I just love how this arrangement sounds on a uke! This is also the first time it only took me a handful of tries to get a decent take – woo hoo!

tessiertParticipantI will be revisiting ‘Yellow Submarine'(video below). My goal is to greatly reduce the unwanted string noise that plagues the entire song.

tessiertParticipantSo, this was the first time I felt I had the song (just called “Fingerpicking Etude”) down pretty solidly and that I wouldn’t need too many tries to get a good take. Boy, was I wrong! 😅

tessiertParticipantI’m really amazed how good the ukulele can sound using only one fretting finger at a time (at least when Matt is playing it :). I really like the tune and appreciate the opportunity to work on things like rubato and dynamics with an easier-to-fret song. If only I could get rid of the extraneous sounds.
Happy spring everyone,

tessiertParticipantHi all,
I did Danse Paysanne because I wanted to take a first shot at learning some of the expressive subtleties. I appreciate that the song takes it easy on the left hand so that I have at least some chance of paying attention to what the right hand is doing.
Happy Spring!
