I chose Song #2 in the course – “The in and out pattern”. I am loving this approach to learning! I really like how you can focus on just one thing. For this song, I tried really hard to work on improving the tone of the individual notes.
It’s a lot of fun to step back a bit and let the picking hand do its thing without having to think too much about it. My next goal is to eliminate the clicking sounds of my fingernails randomly hitting the Uke body.
Oh, almost forgot. If you listen closely, toward the end you can hear my eleven year-old girl yelling something down to her mom in the background. (Gonna have to build me a recording studio 😀.)
Thanks so much for creating this course!
Best,
Trace

tessiertParticipantHi all,
I am a premium member.
This month, I tried “Red is the Rose”. I wish I had more time to work on it, but we leave for vacation tomorrow and I won’t have a chance to submit after tonight. I was only able to get it up to about 60% of full speed (and still had a few issues), but it’s a nice tune and fun to play. (I played it on a baritone since I liked how that sounded a little more.)
Best,
Trace
tessiertParticipantI totally suffer from the haphazard – just pick a random song that I happen to like – approach to learning, and wanted to say how super excited I am about the new Pathways Course!!!

tessiertParticipantHi all,
I am a premium member.
This month, I tried Lover’s March. Still working on getting it clean at full speed, but it’s a fun one to play!

I watched the ‘Ukulele Superpower Live Lesson’ and decided that I want my superpower to be ‘pluck strumming’, since I often like the sound of the rolled arpeggio ‘down strum’ taught in the Etude 21 lesson better than a strummed sound. So, I tried to figure out how to do an arpeggio ‘up strum’ and then do both in quick succession. Since both the Two-Chord Jam and One-Finger Etude gave me a chance to practice (and since I really like both tunes), I’m including videos for both songs this month. Happy Spring!

tessiertParticipantFor this challenge, I’m going to work on the two main categories of constructive criticism that I have repeatedly received from @Andrew – rhythm/pacing and reducing unwanted string noise.
1. Execution:
Rhythm/Pacing – I will be working on the most recent feedback I received (July Challenge – “You are so beautiful) to “work on memorizing it and then practicing with the tab player, playing along with Matt.”Unwanted String Noise – I will be revisiting “Yellow Submarine”, a song I did for an earlier challenge that suffers from a lot of unwanted string noise.
2. Application:
I will perform and record these two songs again at the end of the month and upload them in my second post.3. Evaluation:
For comparison and to gauge improvement, I am posting my original submission videos for these two songs below:August 4, 2025 at 11:42 am in reply to: Participate in the July 2025 Member Challenge – WIN a Custom Arrangement! #75408July 31, 2025 at 2:29 pm in reply to: Participate in the July 2025 Member Challenge – WIN a Custom Arrangement! #74603
tessiertParticipantYou are so beautiful
It’s not like I’ve ever been a big fan of this particular song, but I just love how this arrangement sounds on a uke! This is also the first time it only took me a handful of tries to get a decent take – woo hoo!

tessiertParticipantI will be revisiting ‘Yellow Submarine'(video below). My goal is to greatly reduce the unwanted string noise that plagues the entire song.
