I wasn’t going to post but I told myself when I signed up for rock class that I had to post for the monthly contests. There are reasons I didnt spend the time I should have but that isn’t important (health), I didn’t spend the time I needed and this is beyond rough, I dont think I probably should be counted in the drawing for this month. I want to continue with this piece because I would like to play it. When I do think I get it down better I will make another posting for feedback in the future (there isn’t much point in doing this one at this stage). It’s about half speed, I found out I need to work on chord changes and make them so they are done by muscle memory (I had a bad time of even going to G chord without muting). I found I really need to work on my arching and finger placement because the thunking/muting is terrible. It did show me that I need to work a lot now. Thank you for putting up this lesson.

@Andrew I will try that and see if it helps. It could perhaps be because its carbon it used to have a good sustain, the other strange thing is I used an amp to get some more sound time to experiment to see why perhaps and continue with this song, wait for the next contest and set a goal for a number of of songs and lessons. I still use Mays as a little warm up or the oh look I have a ukulele in my hands. Thanks for the feedback.

I chose Song of Storms. It’s been a crazy month. I spent the first several days working on the barre chord (thought oh I have that.. and then I played it, learned a lot) and then things went south but here it is. Something I will continue to work on so I get more ringing out, less thumps and twangs. I have to figure out why it’s so quiet and subdued up the neck. I put on D’Addario Tenor Ukulele Strings, Clear Nylon, EJ65TLG, Low-G, not to long ago I could go and try the GHS artist curated strings by Craig Chee and Sarah Maisel. But its most likely me, or when I lowered the saddle on this I over did but the measurement seems what its supposed to be, so again most likely me. My wife asked if I could use my other uke as it sounded better but its not Low-G and I have heard reviewers with this uke get good sound, so again probably me. I need to review the recording lesson and balance the background music and the ukulele better

    May 2025 – Etude 37

I must have done over 200 takes over a few days, I dont know if I got flustered I would Thunk or Twang on a note when my finger wasn’t on the righ place on the Fret, or mute a string over when I didn’t have enough arch, or my patterning would falter. Some takes I should realize my holding wasn’t right, I should have made sure I was SET part of that was attempting so many back to back. I did memorize it however. I Think I needed to have it all down much earlier in the month (which would have given me time to work out these things that would go wrong) and start going through it slowly and then speed up after I had all the moving pieces down. There are a number of ooops in here I will continue working on this going back and going at 1/4 or 1/2 speed till it’s down and then see if I can speed it up. It is a pretty piece of music

Annoyingly sometime my mind would wander (whats up with that…)

my attempt at 5 Strum Patterns: 5 Levels – EP014
I am being slow, I will have to continue to work on this, better memorization, and then getting up to speed. I just will need to continue and spend more time. the last two parts fell apart, I can do the first and second faster but its going to take more work and time spent even on those sections to even approach what Matt is doing.

the Next Level Strumming Techniques lesson Matt had was helpful, may of the things by themselves were more doable switching them out with each other was a bigger challenge, something to continue working on.

@Andrew thank you for your reply and comment, I will work on that and think it out to eliminate the pauses. It doesn’t always have to happen all at the same time in cases.

this is kinda raw… I let too many things take priority and didnt leave myself enough time. My fault but learned the lesson. I have been working on my holding and more memorizing, I will have to continue working on this. I enjoy it and wish to do it justice. I have. a lot to work on but thats how I should hopefully get better.

I only have participated in one so far and that was last month so I am going to choose something that will improve my dexterity and skill (I hope)

I choose Fingerpicking Etude no. 37

This I believe will help me grow as a player. I have issues with my hands and focusing and patterning out with some left hand work I think will be helpful as well as doing right hand art the same time. Completing something will be a boost to me as well.

    Andrew,
Thank you for the feedback! I will give the lowering the position and review those lessons you suggested. I can see where Memorizing would be very helpful, your right focusing on the what the next note is rather than knowing and focused no the playing of it and cleanly should help. Its appreciated.

I did Aura Lee for the February 2025 Challenge. I told myself when I joined I would participate this year, I know I need to start and finish much earlier.
