“WALKING ON SUNSHINE” by Katrina and the Waves. We all need some happiness in this crazy world.
Please.

who hasn’t been playing much this month, and it really shows.
Puff the Magic Dragon, could do much, much better.

I love that added verse by Yarrow and Lipton, it gives the song a feeling of hope and resurrection of imagination and love and joy.
Even as an adult I would cry when hearing “Puff”, because it just stopped! at the loss of childish innocence and imagination… heartbreaking stuff.
Now it has the full cycle: innocence, love, joy, loss and back to the start again.November 10, 2020 at 7:26 pm #41846miztakenParticipantAn ukulele collection is only idiotically huge if you have more than my eleven instruments… (three of them are “duds”, ie. not suitable for finger style and RC101).
October 31, 2020 at 9:04 pm #41659miztakenParticipantThanks for the kind feedback @andrew
Yep, the wrist motion… I shall keep working on reducing it.
(It is reassuring that you are “still learning the technique” too 😀 , it gives me more hope )October 30, 2020 at 9:25 pm #41613miztakenParticipantI AM A PREMIUM MEMBER.
Well, this has been a challenge!
Today’s playing is far from what I can do with this piece but you get it anyway.
Self assessment:
Thumb too high on neck; too much movement in right hand technique; chords are not ringing out too well.
But I recorded, and no swearing heard on this take ;DOctober 18, 2020 at 10:19 pm #41330miztakenParticipant@stianukulele damn!!!! I love it!
You have the same banjolele as me, and you make it sound so good!
I wanted to learn St Anne’s Reel so that I can finally play something on my banjolele too. Unfortunately it is in having a full adjustment and set-up, AND I needed to do the triple picking/strumming course first (little steps).
Thanks for the great inspiration to keep going.October 8, 2020 at 10:39 pm #41202miztakenParticipantI joined (?) July 2018.
I had been strumming for three years, taught by husband plus self.
Can’t and won’t sing, dislike strum-a-longs but could see that the uke can be played as a “real” instrument.
Started looking up teachers, but was put off by the singing, the accent, the music choices… everything really.
Then found RC101, bloody brilliant!
EVERYTHING “fits” me: Andrew, his teaching style, the lesson formats, the huge variety in song choices so that I can learn and play just what I like or think I need to learn. I have a music teacher in Sydney too, but go to her to enhance what I learn on RC101 eg. She will give me alternate chord structures for my wonky finger.First song was the basic “Ode to Joy” in the beginners class.
October 4, 2020 at 11:15 pm #41140miztakenParticipantOh, strangely I have no problem with Out In The North. I have already learned that and still play it
I have gone backwards to learn the technique and do the Triple Pick course AFTER learning the song 😀
I want all those green ticks and the course completed notice.October 3, 2020 at 10:33 am #41137miztakenParticipantI have the quote “the slower you go, the faster you’ll get there” on the front of my lessons folder.
A good reminder for triple picking (and EVERYTHING else I am learning in my playing).October 3, 2020 at 3:59 am #41133miztakenParticipantMy “Dr Seuss” style t-shirts. I ended up with two because we thought one was lost in the mail.
(Unfortunately cannot fit them at present thanks to retiring and Covid restrictions).
And my ukulele mug… it has 13 ukes on it so that is my UAS limit (only one to go 😀 ).October 3, 2020 at 3:38 am #41132miztakenParticipantHi Grace @gmfli8
I have been doing weekly private lessons since May last year, and they have been a huge help to me.
I go to a music teacher whose main instrument is double bass (bassists can pick!), and also plays and/or teaches ukulele, guitar, piano. She is gentle, encouraging and very knowledgable.
What I do with her, enhances my RC101 learning because I learn better with a teacher in front of me.
In general, I get to choose what I want to learn and it is usually one of Andrew’s arrangements or something else from RC101. I do also follow the RC101 lesson, I just find the combination works best for me.
Look for a music teacher who TEACHES ADULTS. We learn very differently from children, and that needs to be taken into account. Also, look for someone who is happy to teach you what YOU want to learn, and doesn’t follow a strict pathway. As an adult you need to be learning to play music that gives you joy, because that way it won’t burn you out or bore you, and you will continue to love to learn.
Andrew does ALL that, and a complimentary teacher just makes it all better.October 3, 2020 at 2:40 am #41131miztakenParticipantHell’s teeth!
Here I was thinking I was slotting into early intermediate… I can pick, I can strum, I can count and keep time, I can see a new song and think “I can learn that!”, I have softened my attack on strings, I can occasionally play a tune at speed, and I sometimes enter the challenges. And triple picking puts me and my confidence right back to beginner again.
Oh well… one small step at a time…September 15, 2020 at 2:09 am #40839miztakenParticipantHa, funny…. I love that the ukulele does NOT have to be, and is so much more than a strumming instrument.
I prefer less strumming, more picking.
Thank goodness that Andrew works so hard, and so very well, to cater to all of us.
We all get to win with RC101.August 22, 2020 at 10:41 pm #40500miztakenParticipantI got a larger sheet and cut it to the height of the sheet stand so that I could clip it on securely. I taped the edges so that I don’t cut myself on the edges.
The remainder is in storage for when I break this one.
It is simple to attach and remove, just those two giant pram clips.I tend to sit, using a chair without arms as they get in the way and restrict the way I hold and use my ukulele (I am officially short).
