I had the opportunity to record another video with “the view” so had to give it a go… unfortunately I only had two days to learn and record it!
See my smile of sheer relief at finally making it to the end and hitting the last note with only a few minor brain farts/hesitations along the way. π (I started at sunrise but apparently neither my brain nor my fingers work that early!)

Here’s Path of the Wind. I know there are hesitations and timing issues but my brain is on holiday already and refuses to memorise this one. π I also need to oil both my chair and my pinky finger apparently, sorry.

I love Morning Dew and the inspiration behind it. When Andrew plays it I can totally see myself lying in bed with the sun shining through the window and birds singing in the garden. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work so well when I play it as I’m so busy panicking about what notes come next!
I played this for the August 2021 challenge and I actually think I was better then, but I’ll blame that on the fact that I haven’t really picked up my ukulele much this year (excuses, excuses!)
Thanks again for such a lovely etude Andrew! π

I haven’t played for a few months (lack of time) but really wanted to get going again this month and submit an entry. Unfortunately I left it until the 28th to start learning anything, argh! So here’s Fingerpicking Etude (no.1), recorded in a bit of a panic when I realised that daylight saving had changed things and I had less hours left than I thought! A few fluffs and my thumb just refuses to join in sometimes, but I’m just glad to make it to the end. π

First time playing with a backing track but I figured Song of Storms was a good one to start with! I think I need not only new strings but also a better phone for Christmas, this one is beginning to die on me (or maybe it’s just had enough of recording thousands of takes!) π
Anyway, here ’tis…
August 31, 2022 at 10:44 pm #53461sarahdParticipantThis time last year I was busy trying to get a decent take of “Morning Dew” and it’s still one of my favourites to play. Here’s another lovely tune written by Andrew and not done justice by me. My right hand seems to do fine as long as I don’t think about it (if I do, it all goes horribly wrong!), I just need to train my left hand to make those transitions a little faster!
August 1, 2022 at 12:14 am #52970sarahdParticipantI’m with @nelsonlin2021! I don’t know whether it’s my speakers or my ears, but I struggle to hear the U-Bass so I haven’t got a clue how I fit in with it when suddenly it’s just me and the backing track. I too could do with a bridge of some sort!
July 31, 2022 at 11:32 pm #52968sarahdParticipantI’m gutted I couldn’t get 50s Rock & Blues ready in time but will keep practising in the hope of one day having an electric ukulele! Congrats to all those who persevered – it was a tricky month!
Here’s my last minute switch to Aura Lee. I found it really difficult to keep in time and not race to the finish line on this one (and I need more time to try the funky strum flick thing!), but hopefully I’m (just) in time for an entry…July 29, 2022 at 1:48 am #52899sarahdParticipantLike many others, I love 50s Rock & Blues Andrew! I’ve been learning it all month but playing with a backing track is well beyond me at this stage. So, unlike @ldarrow above, I’m going to have to do the last minute switch-a-roo! Wish me luck…

I can’t listen to Habanera without seeing Katarina Witt skating to it at the 1988 Calgary Olympics. I was only little at the time but I recorded it on TV and watched it over and over. So I really wanted to do this one.
Unfortunately I lost a week due to sickness and am still very shaky now so I’m struggling. I’ll record a perkier and more upbeat version once I am feeling better, but right now I am out of time and need to crawl back into bed. I managed to make it to the end without coughing though so there’s that!

I would have loved to do Blackbird or Yesterday this month but stuff happened and left me with only two days at the end of the month to learn something, so Yellow Submarine it is! I need more practice to make it cleaner and iron out all the hesitations, but I’m just happy to get an entry in. π
May 15, 2022 at 11:14 pm #51922sarahdParticipantThanks for the feedback @Steven. It is the most amazing view for people (and surfer) watching, we even spotted Brian May down there on the esplanade a couple of years ago. Unfortunately not my house though so I am forced to leave every now and then! π
I did feel like I should be recording Wipe Out not Waltz in C though! Maybe next time…
I think my “I can turn into a turtle” recording was just a bit less stressed without the hesitation at the end as I panicked about whether or not to mess it all up with a failed harmonic. πApril 30, 2022 at 6:56 pm #51764sarahdParticipantI AM A PREMIUM MEMBER
Trying to record this first thing in the morning before the kids wake up and start shouting things like “I can turn into a turtle” in the background like they were doing last night – spoiled my best take that did! I haven’t had a cup of tea yet though so I’m struggling to remember what I’m doing…
Hoping the view in the background will distract you sufficiently. π
March 31, 2022 at 7:39 pm #51348sarahdParticipantI skipped last month and broke my nine month streak so I’m going to have to start all over again now! Here’s Jurassic Park as my entry for this month. π
