ParticipantHmm I think I submitted a post and couldn’t find it now. Not sure if it’s pending review or something (it should only has only one link). Andrew, if it’s not actually in the review queue, can you let me know so that I can submit it again with the video link? Thanks.

ParticipantThanks Andrew for checking.
Here’s my take for Come As You Are. Messed up a few places but it’s a good practice for chunk, rhythm, and counting 😉 – I had a few takes forgetting how many repeats I’ve done already… Also agree with others that the new Dm is hard…

Participant@Andrew, thanks! And yes, I know, it’s my usual isue, and here it’s so obvious I didn’t even mention it. When I listened back to my recording I noticed the tempo makes it sound rushed and short-breathed in some spots, plus it’s not even consistent throughout the take, I think it gets even faster towards the end. I tried a few takes playing slower deliberately, but then I kept messing up real bad, so I posted the take I had. Gives me something to keep working on, and I really need to incorporate the tempo aspect earlier in the process of learning a new piece. It’s weird, but I tend to learn the songs in a tempo that’s too fast, and then it’s actually difficult for me to slow down and re-learn them in the correct tempo.

AndrewKeymaster@misterbones – you’re at the point where you can play along with the band backing track. That’s what I’d do. The drums and bass will keep you in check. And it’s super fun to jam with them!

AndrewKeymaster@qiuyan – Great job overall! I noticed that you seem a little tense while you play. Try this: Move your strumming hand closer to where the fretboard and sound hole meet, then try opening your shoulders and playing while looking away from the uke.

brettboyParticipantHi Fellow Ukulele Players! I am a Premium Member.
I took on JUMP this month. A great arrangement of a fun song! Big Thanks to Evan and Andrew 🙂
I never fully mastered the solo (as you will plainly see if you watch my video) but I’m getting close. I did get pretty good at playing the skeleton of the song. I practiced with the backing track and could do it with decent accuracy but I decided not to use it for my video because I would always lose the beat at least once and have to play catch up. So I present this video “at my own (fairly steady) pace.” Hope you like it!

AndrewKeymaster@brettboy – bravo, Brett! That was awesome, especially the epic solo performance! I loved it! I’ve told you this many times, but it’s got to be said on this take – your groove is so good! Such smooth playing, especially when you kick into that pre-chorus. Nicely done!
The only critique I can give is to tidy up the first verse and be aware that you added a couple extra beats to the end of that opening keyboard riff. Not a big deal if you are doing a solo performance, but something to be aware of if you play in an ensemble.

ParticipantThanks Andrew for the feedback! Yea, I noticed that too, but just couldn’t help looking at the left hand even if I know I’ve the muscle memory at least on the lower frets… Maybe need to try playing in the dark 😛

ParticipantNOT A SUBMISSION
hi Andrew another question: I wanted to learn the iconic opening of Jump, even if I don’t plan to learn the entire song at the moment. But as I played the first two bars it just doesn’t sound right. I cannot tell if it’s the rhythm or staccato or speed or something else. Can you help take a look? Thanks!

Hello all,
This is my submission for this month, Come As You Go. I am not entirely happy with it but it seems the more I recorded, the more mistakes I made.

AndrewKeymaster@qiuyan – Sounds good to me! Keep going 🙂
@wongbrown – Great job! So your strumming hand covers a wide area, try to not deviate as far from the neck. You did a great job on the following (but it’s good to point out for others reading this feedback): The big thing with strumming – especially for a song like this, that’s based out of an 8th note strum pattern – is to keep your right hand in a constant down and up motion. If you watch the last bar of Matt’s performance (or Sheila’s), you’ll notice he keeps going even when he’s not playing. This constant motion creates that smooth sound.
There’s a couple syncopated spots that I’d keep working on, like the slide up to 7. Work on keeping the timing steady and the right hand swinging and matched to it.

wongbrownMemberAndrew, thanks so much for the valuable feedback. I also noticed the wide swinging of my strumming hand but not sure what to do with it at first, but with your feedback, I have a better idea now 😆
