Looks like the file was too large for the site. Can you upload to youtube?

Hey Awesomestrings, don’t beat yourself up. I didn’t get serious in my practicing until 13/14, same age as you. So I had started playing at 10, but it took years until I became focused. There were a number of factors on why 3 years passed and I didn’t progress, but the bottom line was I hadn’t fallen in love with music… yet.

When I stumbled onto Van Halen, I was hooked. I had a Non-Stop passion that began with one band and spewed into countless other artists, genres, and instruments. The most important thing is to have this passion, where you know that this is what you want to do, without doubt. I knew that music was what I wanted to do at 15, but I didn’t know what or how I was going to do it.

I’m not going to lie, this is a really tough career field. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have the passion. If you do, it is the best career because there is no Option B.

Check out this video from my friend from Music College. We went through the entire program together. He makes a great point on the reality of being a a professional musician, which is it is not enough to only play an instrument. You have to wear multiple hats. For example, take a look at what I do here: I compose, perform, and teach. Three different hats πŸ™‚

Welcome Machie! I loved your backbeat progress video! I even shared it on our Facebook page. One of our other members, Carmelo, is doing a similar project where he is recording a 100 day challenge of himself working on one of Jake Shimabukuro’s songs. You can follow his journey here πŸ™‚

Hi DD, the pickup should make no difference. Ca you share a video of you playing? I’ll be better able to help you if I can see exactly what you are doing.

Safari should work fine. I’d give it an hour or two and try again.

Hi Sheila, usually issues with the Vimeo players come down to an internet connection. I tested that lesson, and it is playing fine on my end.

The only thing Vimeo suggests is to clear the browsers “cache” if problems persist. I would recommend to use Google Chrome with our site over Firefox or Edge (IE).

Welcome David! Glad you found us! One of the best ways to learn is to jam with someone who is more experienced. So that’s great that you’ve got a friend to rock out with! πŸ™‚

Harold, thought I’d leave you some feedback. I really think you did such a tremendous job! So much fun to watch πŸ™‚ Glad to see people jamming out on the concept tunes!

The only constructive feedback I can think of is to try to use your pinky more in the riff. Sometimes you did large jumps from 1st to 2nd to 3rd finger, when 1, 3, 4 may have been easier/less movement of the overall hand.

Other than that, I would work on the chords a bit more to clean them up, but really it was awesome! Great timing and feel. That’s what music is all about!

Awesome job, themotivator! Sounds perfect. I did arrange that tune for soprano and concert/tenor, so be sure to learn the next section and post that here to qualify for the giveaway πŸ™‚
