AndrewKeymasterWelcome Tin! Glad you found us π Check out our intro to music theory course here. Yes, many lessons go past the 12th fret, so I’d suggest picking up a concert or tenor uke for those lessons.

AndrewKeymasterThanks for taking it π I’m planning to go live one day this week and respond to/share all the feedback I received. It has been very helpful!
AndrewKeymasterIs weird quirks a good answer? π I like the minor tone produced when lifting up before the next phrase starts. But, this is minor stuff. I wouldn’t worry too much about copying it.
AndrewKeymasterHi Maya, here is a video explaining the attack. And watching back I realize tapping on my computer wasn’t the greatest analogy, lol. Let me know if you have questions.

AndrewKeymasterI thought it would be great to revive this post π Here’s what I’m working on and please share what you are doing too!
1) Execution – Adding a percussive beat to jazz up simple strumming. I found this performance on Reddit and thought it was too cool not to learn!
2) Application – I could use it over any strumming and singing song. A nice way to add a beat other than “chucking“.
3) Evaluation – Here’s where I’m at on day 2. I’d like to have it more fluid and “natural”. I plan to post a lesson on the technique next year.

AndrewKeymasterLisa, that was much better! The only thing I would continue to work on is practicing with a metronome to tighten up your timing. Great job overall, I’m glad the feedback helped π
AndrewKeymasterHi Phil, I’ve taught privately for 11 years and I’ve seen many students express feeling stuck and not progressing. Now you mentioned one thing that all of them said too: “[I] practice the same stuff every night”. This right here is the root of the problem. Instead of suggesting another song to work on, I would recommend to create a plan for progressing.
The feeling of being stuck and wondering what to practice or what to learn is the reason that I created Learning Paths. It’s a step-by-step guide that teaches you how to create a plan for continual advancement. I encourage you to read through the entire guide and pick one area to focus on.
When you pick what you’re going to work on, you need a way to stay accountable. Follow the guidelines in the The Accountability Thread. This Thread is all about developing an area of musicianship and implementing it into your playing. Please post your progress in the thread.
As an example, I’m currently working on a new technique: Adding a percussive beat to simple strumming. I found this video on Reddit and thought it was extremely creative, so I learned it. Now I’m practicing and will create a lesson video in the future for the site on it.
Hope this helps you and inspires you. Let’s make 2018 a great year for your playing!

Rickey, great to hear! Looking forward to watching your performance!
AndrewKeymasterThat string rings louder than the others. The best advice I can offer is to try to approach playing on that string with a lighter touch.
AndrewKeymasterTime to start the collection π But seriously, I enjoy having the extra frets to work with on a concert and tenor.
AndrewKeymasterLooking forward to watching it Alissa π
