The_Bumble_BardParticipant@bibilele, yes, the pipe organ is the gigantic kind that’s built into the walls of churches, with all the pipes, obvs. I think they vary in size. I saw one in England that took up the whole wall and it was rather breathtaking. I forgot that the smaller kinds were called electric organs. That’s really interesting with the different kinds of foot work involved. I would love to try that one day, sounds entertaining. π
Toccata is a good one to try, I still am going to try to learn as much as I can of it this month, with my “safety” option of a simpler song. π
@simonalexander, really amazing playing! I found your video on here when you first shared it because I was interested in that song and you were the only one who shared it here. Really really amazing! π-

The_Bumble_BardParticipant(Suddenly a portal opens up in Matt’s ceiling, revealing a bright celestial glow)
Hello Matt! It’s me, Daniel Day-Lewis.
Perhaps you remember the last time I saw you I had ascended on the back of a surly papa Pegasus into the great beyond. You had arranged the Gael for uke, so thence my time on this earth was done.
Under the majestical roof of heaven, they only play open chords, for they are the fairest and sweetest of harmonies.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello, lol. G2G.
(The portal to the other realm closes, but also all the pens from your desk get sucked into it by mistake)

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@bibilele, that is sooooo cool that you used to play that one on a pipe organ! I always wanted to try to play one of those because I liked to play piano. Oh wait, you said an electric organ, so I guess that’s something different? Hahaha I know, it’s a bit ridiculous to think I could learn that in a month too, but maybe I could learn one of the easier ones as a “place holder,” then start learning the Fugue, at least. We should both try it. I think I could definitely learn part of it. My favorite part is the third theme. Shows what an incredible player Andrew is, watching him play that. π βΊοΈ

The_Bumble_BardParticipantEvery time I catch a glimpse of that kanile’a, I feel like I’m going to start drooling. π But then I think about how clumsy I am and how I probably shouldn’t have it…
I want to try to learn Toccata and Fugue, that being my “white whale” of the Rock Class songs, but we’ll see what happens. Whale see… ππ
Edit: I just rewatched the performance of Toccata and Fugue. I forgot how insane that is. So cool though. Is it for low g or high g? I couldn’t find which it was. If it’s low g, that would sound really amazing on my electric uke. βΊοΈ

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@Andrew, thank you, I’m so glad that you liked it and that the timing issues didn’t hurt your ears too much. π
@dianna, so, so lovely! You played that perfectly! βΊοΈ I really wanted to learn that one but it just didn’t work out. Nonetheless, viva la clawhammer crew! ππ (Sorry I forget where the accents go on “viva la,” that might be completely wrong). Anyway, very lovely playing! βΊοΈπ
@grannieannie, congrats!!! That’s so exciting!! I hope you enjoy that lovely uke! Also thank you so much for the encouragement earlier. βΊοΈπSeptember 30, 2024 at 7:42 pm in reply to: Participate in the September 2024 Member Challenge: Duets! #63905
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, aw, thank you, friend! π When I listened back to it again today, I realized it wasn’t *quite* as bad as I thought. I may have been getting tired and therefore slaphappy when I listened back to it. π π Really thank you! I actually love trying to layer like that but I think I need to get a better program / method for creating duets/layers because the program I have now is Clunky City. π

The_Bumble_BardParticipantOh my, so, I managed to get an entry together of Kakariko Village. I learned the harmony, melody, recorded both parts, layered and edited them (unsuccessfully I guess, lol) and uploaded it in an hour flat. And boy does it sound like it. π π π
When I first listened to the “finished product” back, I cry laughed pretty hard, just because it was so hilariously off. What happened?! I actually even tried to count. I had to record each part separately without listening to the other part. πππ
I think what happened is that I was playing the melody too slowly. And in my attempts to be “extra” I added notes to the harmony which threw off the rhythm. And also didn’t realize that the last chord of the song was played by itself. I knew this after I listened to @kittycatlin ‘s lovely performance of this one. π @swissconsinboy also played that one really well.
I feel like mine is a “expectations versus reality” prime example. π
I’ll say I’m glad that I still tried to get an entry in so I didn’t lose my streak (and because it was a much needed laugh today), but this one maybe doesn’t deserve a prize entry. π π₯Ί
@abster, your performance was incredible! Such a young rock star indeed! ππI want to comment on everyone else’s because they were all so great, but I’ll say they were all very lovely! π
@leb397, that is so amazing and magical! I am definitely very excited for you! ππ I feel like I need to go look into that company so I can ogle the ukes at least. π Thank you, friend, there have been some fun and crazy things this month, but the last couple of weeks have been a bit rough. It will get better though. You be well, as well! π-

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, ohhhh my gosh, that’s sooooooooo cool!! I’m so happy for you but also a little bit jealous!! ππ π Wow, that’s so beautiful and has such a cool history to it. I did notice that the skin on the drum looked new right away, but it looks really, really nice. And the sound is fantastic from your entry in the challenge. π
Oh, when I first got my banjolele I had to put the bridge in myself and I was so nervous that I’d hurt it but it turned out okay. π For a banjouke that needs that much work it was good for you to have someone else do it; that’s what I’d do. π I’m overly excited for you. π π At some point I’d love to own any antique uke because I think they’re extra special and always have an interesting history like that.
Also I love that the company is called Bacon. I’m sure that’s a last name, but I still love it. π Thank you for sharing that!! ππ

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, that was so magical, my friend! That made me smile so much! That song sounds so amazing on your 100 year old banjo uke! It has such a sweet, mellow sound to me and you played so well! ππ It’s also really impressive that you learned clawhammer, a whole technique, in that amount of time, too, along with the song. ππ
Now I can also listen to the entries I missed, but the ones I heard were all really amazing. π
This month has been really crazy for me with some struggles mixed in but I’m hoping I might be able to squeeze in a very last second entry. Don’t worry though, I haven’t even started yet. ππππ π π
Glad that everyone near the path of the hurricane is safe, @Andrew, it seemed to be really bad. Praying about that, for those dealing with that devastation. π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_ hahaha!!! I also was waiting for you to see it. πΉπΉπΉπππ π Anyone who’s had cats knows this is exactly how they fight at times. An absolute death match for no reason whatsoever. Ten minutes later, they’re cuddling. πππ
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, thank you so much, friend! ππ That’s a really good idea. I might just have to do that. With the song they released last week, “Don’t Know Why,” I immediately thought that could have a cat version, but it’s so beautiful the way Ashley created it, it almost seems wrong to malign it with cats… almost. Meowlign it. ππ
Hehe I love that though! I think I should do that. Also I cracked myself up big time with those drawings, that’s how I know I “succeeded” in my own mind. πππ π π»πΈπΉπΈ
The_Bumble_BardParticipantHelllooooo! So, I thought I’d share the few missing stills from the video I made for last month of the Fur-iends (“Friends” with Cats). I’m quite pleased with these, frankly. π ππ π
I forgot the color of the orange cat, though (I mean the shade of orange; also I have my screen warm shifted almost always because I get migraines, so that threw things off) so he accidentally was gold in these missing slides. I also was going to make a still of the cats “ying-yanging” as in, sleeping in a ying-yang shape (as cats do), as the ending slide, maybe I’ll share that later. I tried to upload them in the order they’d appear in the video. Hope you enjoy! π ππ
These images are rated PG-13, though, for slight cat-related violence. ;)π

Hey… I’m just saying, the cat version would also have cartoons that go with it. ππ
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@katazumiri, after thinking about it a bit, this is what I think I would do: I think I would figure out / create a melody by ear, then maybe try to write it down and reverse it, if I can. Then, overlay the two. At first I thought I’d figure out the melody, then note-by-note reverse it, but I already know that would take so long to do (to figure out what the reversed version is because it would just be reversing whatever pattern I play). I think I would have to write it down to remember the reversed version. Theoretically I could memorize the reversed version and that also would work. I actually may do that because I don’t love writing down music. ππ But then it probably would be easier to share it if I wrote it down and would be good to do. Sorry just thinking out loud, lol.
I’ll have to let you know which approach I actually do. π
I think I also prefer one canon but that video talking about Bach and Mozart and how classical musician use it made me interested to try it. That also will show if I fully understand it because you’ll be able to tell me if I did it right, I’m sure. π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@katazumiri, thank you so much! π When I hear something like that, it’s just so exciting that I want to try it at least. π Couldn’t it be as simple as creating a melody, then reversing the melody, and playing them at the same time?
Ha, I really want to try that now! If I can come up with something, I’ll share it with you here, if you don’t mind. π
Hahaha nice! When it comes to concepts like this and certain kinds of techniques on uke, I always at least like to try it to see what happens. There are definitely times it doesn’t work but it’s fun to try. In so many other contexts I’m far less brave. π
