@leb397, awwww, thank ye for the encouragement! It still needs a lot of work because I find the chord changes really tricky still but I think Matt said in the lesson that was part of the intentional challenge of the arrangement. I think part of what gives me anxiety when recording is worrying about being perfect so that’s why I just included the bumbles. 😊 Your take was so dang good! And you prove your tech-savviness once again with the video ending/editing! 😁

The fact that Chopsticks was included as an option for this challenge amuses me too much. 😅 A ubiquitous tune on pianos, maybe soon it’ll be uke-biquitous. Good jorb on that, @gstriph! 😊
@Andrew, thank you so much for that kind feedback! And thank you for saying you liked the variation. I am more used to randomly adding fingerpicking to songs than making difficult chord changes, so hopefully if I slow down, like you said, and get that part right the rest will fall into place. @deadbuggy, that was so, so good! I am in actual awe, madam!I wanted to try to tackle one of them Nutcrackers but that may be more of a “Christmas in July” experience for me. 😅 They’re pretty daunting.
Instead I tried God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen–also daunting, but possible–and thought I would share an especially imperfect take. I will still work on it and try to perfect it (and hopefully can post an update later) but here’s where it is right now. Sorry that it’s an oppressively quiet recording. I scored a new mic on Cyber Monday, so hopefully that’ll help with that, lol.
Just to clarify, I said, “oh shoot” midway through the video and “eesh” at the end. Didn’t want that to be misconstrued…
I know I have brought this up often, but I’m so, so, SO grateful for the people of this community and especially for the instructors here who are so gracious, inspiring, and helpful. Joining here has completely transformed my view of playing ukulele and taken my abilities from playing basic chords to playing flippin’ Lacrimosa (at an okay level 😂) in a relatively short time. I’ve learned so much, and will be forever grateful to the people here.

@surferjay, that was so dang good, man! So inspiring to see your loops. I’m almost confident that reverb is the echo-y effect, right? So neat! It sounds like something that would be in the show Firefly, if you know what that is (R.I.P.). It’s basically a sci-fi show / movie about space cowboys. 😅😂

@surferjay, I’m almost confident that I know what you’re saying. I’ll have to give that a whirl and see if it gets rid of the pause. Obviously it wouldn’t hurt if you had time to make a video to demonstrate, too, but I’m almost confident that I get ya. Thank ye for that explanation! 😊
That’s why I kept the first part of the loop so simple, with single notes, just so I had a better chance of getting the timing right. Also that’s how I had it in the arrangement I made that this loop was based on: starting with single notes and building to more complicated ……. Things. Even though I know it’s not 100% accurate to the original song, still working on that.

@surferjay, you’re so dang kind, man! I smiled so much at your guyseses’ encouraging words! With the timing, the trickiest part was figuring out when to push the pedal button so there wouldn’t be a pause at the beginning / end of the loop. I thought pushing the button was counted as a “beat,” but I think maybe it ends the loop instantly. Not sure if that makes sense. But the time it takes to press the button is obviously a factor. Still working on figuring that out.So excited to try more! When I do, I’ll share them here! Thank you guys again! 😊💕

That was so great, madz! I can’t get over how much the uke sounds like a video game from this era for some reason. But that was lovely! 🙂
Never played one second of a Zelda game in my life (other than Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart–both of which I’m terrible at), but I agree with @leb397 that all these stories of nostalgia are so sweet and fun to read!
In my youf, I played PC games and DOS games, if anyone knows what that is. And Sega Genesis Disney games–The Lion King, Aladdin, and one with Mickey Mouse. And Jump! music games for piano. Good times.
Anyway, I pretty much learned this because it was stuck in my head anyway lol. Lovely chunes and lovely work by everyone! 🙂
