The_Bumble_BardParticipantThanks to @Andrew and @Stephen for taking the time to write out such great, detailed feedback! It’s one of the best parts about these challenges to me. So many insightful nuggets o’ info to be had!
Also, the influx of entries the last few days of this challenge was crazy to behold, lol. Never been part of one of these Kanileβa challenges before.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for all of the thoughtful feedback and encouragement! YOU guys rock! π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, not familiar with that arrangement of Canon in D but that sounds really intriguing!
The mini looper arrived and it was even minier than expected. I was like, “is it in there?” π But that’s also good because I’m running out of room for these things…
I’m hoping I can start to try it out on Sunday because this weekend is busy for me. As every weekend has been this month. Er last month. And this month. I don’t know what day it is…
Thank you kindly! I can’t wait to give it a whirl and I’ll show anything that’s not too sad here! π Maybe even my first attempt at it because that will probably be amusing. π Hope you get a chance to post what you’re working on if you have time!
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@sir_anzalot, that’s such a good one and I couldn’t agree more with that!
I love classical music and there’s often a huge difference in the complexity of it compared to modern music (especially pop music but the Beatles are slightly more involved than say Katy Pary). I’m sure there are exceptions, like maybe jazz music, but to me it’s the difference between a Rembrandt and Andy Warhol. Not sure everyone would agree with that, lol, and that may be a bit extreme but your examples are such a good illustration of this. Bach is also crazy; there’s just so much material to learn and there are often only slight variations between measures.
I also was reminded of this same thing this month while learning Lacrimosa. I’m actually still working on it and probably will for some time before it’s close to perfect.
If you want to see crazy classical music you should go look up Chopin, unless you know off-hand. That man was a psychopath as a composer. π
There’s this but the first one isn’t crazy. The second one is:
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, supposedly it’ll be here Wednesday, tomorrow! There’s one specific song I’ve wanted to try from a movie since I’ve started playing uke but it involves playing on opposite ends of the fretboard for the melody / harmony the way I wanted to. I also don’t have an arrangement for the song so we’ll see how that goes. Ohhhhh yesss! I’ll have to look for that one on here! Then I can know one neato song right out of the gate! I hope you keep posting your loops to inspire gi_gi_ and I! π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, yes, so many musical terms sound highly questionable. I won’t even say what they are though because this site is family friendly. Also I shouldn’t have brought that up at all. ππ₯Ίπ
I’ll defs give that a read, thank ye! π I am going through the lessons here but it takes me a really long time and often multiple tries to imbibe information. For me it really helps to have the visual of a concept in action like in the video lessons otherwise my brain can just go blank… Well, more blank. ππ
Oh yes I think I know what you mean. Like the modes that Matt talked about in one of his videos. I’m starting with the beginner’s course here but I’m guessing that’s covered in the theory course. I’ll get there eventually. Maybe that’s something I can practice with the looper. π
The_Bumble_BardParticipantAwwww thank you all! I feel the 𧑠and 𧑠you all too! π And thank you @robinboyd, you were the one I thought I may have offended but you have no idea what I’m talking about so we cool! ππ I just need to calm down like a lot, but sometimes the ol’ brain goes against you and I appreciate the reassurances nonetheless. ππ
@gi_gi_ those look so neat! I’m definitely going to look through those, thank you!! I love Ukulele Wales, she’s so insightful and cute, I watched some of her videos talking about electric ukuleles when I first won the one from here! At some point I think I would want to try a more elaborate set up but it’s definitely good to start out simply. π
@surferjay, that is pretty neat that you’re doing that but how does the a minor scale align with those chords? From what I remember from videos I’ve watched, don’t you have to omit certain notes at times to suit what chords you’re playing? I’m still working through the lessons even though I know a fair amount from playing piano, the arrangement of the notes on the fretboard is what I struggle with most. Pianos are more orderly and linear. Ukes are definitely cuter, more spirited, and quirkier though. πOctober 30, 2022 at 8:05 pm in reply to: Participate in the October 2022 Member Challenge β WIN $6,000 Kanileβa #54394
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@jbmills07, thank you kindly! Lacrimosa put every skill I did and (mostly) didn’t have to the test this month. That’s such a touching story, man. π₯Ί I’m sure they’re watching from above and would approve greatly of that beautiful performance! Ha, I will watch for that! π
@robinboyd, sorry about your hand, yeesh! You did a very lovely job despite that!Everyone’s takes were amazing! So fun to follow along, see all the performances, and critiques! Happy All Hallows Eve everyone! ππ§‘
The_Bumble_BardParticipantAlso, apologies for my use of smilies as punctuation……. The texts my sister and I send to each other usually include about 15 – 20 smilies each, so it’s a habit. π π₯Ίπ§‘π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, thank you, and thank you kindly for recommending that one! Once I figure it out and get something together I’ll post it here. π I think I’ll have to use my electric ukulele to record it because you need the…………………. Input. Pickup. I had to look it up even though I did know that at one point. π₯Ίπ But none of my “comfort ukuleles” have that. I love the electric one though so it should be really neat! Can’t wait to try it! π
Sigh, thank you. I know I worry about small things way too much and get inside my head about things. I also often look homeless because I couldn’t buy new clothes for more than a year, so some of my clothes are literal rags. π₯Ί But things are getting a bit better now with money so that’s good.
That is amazing improvisation! It is improvisation? So good! I’ve started actually going through the lessons here and Matt Dahlberg just created a lesson on scales so I’m really hoping to work on that because I’m starting to see how freeing that knowledge / skill could be. Your playing is proof of that too.
Hahaha same! I pretty much had the same thing happen this month where I realized I was getting a little too obsessed and emotionally invested perhaps, but it’s all good as long as you try to balance things out and also go outside sometimes. ππ But I still may be “slightly” too obsessed. π₯Ίπ
@gi_gi_ thank you so much for that, that means so dang much! πππ I did try to tell myself that no one really even noticed but I’m still glad I said something and really appreciate you saying that. I can’t wait to try the looper! Hopefully I can figure out how to do some of the things I want to do! Do you have a link to those videos? I’d love to see them! Thank you again so much for the kind words! Everyone here is so lovely and generous that I’ve talked with including you. πI should also say that Andrew and Matt and co. helped me a lot when I literally wanted to give up this month, because of the issues I was having. So, I appreciate everyone here so dang much. π
Okay, that’s all! π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, I bought the Lekato looper today! Like five minutes ago. It should get here Wednesday, very excited! I feel a bit guilty for spending the money but I very rarely buy anything for myself anymore (other than food, lol).
Also, sorry if my odd and troubled behavior this month affected you or robinboyd poorly at all–the ramble crew. You may not even think about it but I thought about it a lot. I really, really wanted to meet people who shared a love of ukulele (as Wisconsin seemingly is a dead zone for that), friends if possible, and I hope we are still friends, as it is through the site. I just really enjoyed talking with you both and others (gi_gi_ as well) here and I hope my neuroses haven’t jeopardized it at all.
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, then please carry on. LOL. (Also crying inside)

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@Andrew, thank you so much for the encouraging words! I lost perspective on how I was doing with playing and wanted to give up and not even share, so that means so flippin’ much. It can be difficult to find great classical arrangements for ukulele but that one is perfection, and I got pretty much completely obsessed with learning it–but, as you honed in on, I played the first half more because those chord jumps in the second half are currently almost impossible for me. π I will keep working on it though. Thank you!!!
I actually would like to rescind my entry for the prize because I feel like I’ve already won.

The_Bumble_BardParticipantI AM A PREMIUM MEMBER
Hello all!
Joining the Lacrimosians this month. I really wanted to try this amazing arrangement and since it’s for low G it seemed like a good chance to bring forth the uke I won from here in July. That electric uke is the only low G uke I have. I saw @lhamilton also took this approach and your performance is absolutely stunning and perfect.
Just wanted to say that I struggled a lot this month and sorry if that negatively affected anyone here at all. But I really, really appreciate how kind, generous, and talented everyone here is and, when thinking straight, I see all these good things.
As for Lacrimosa……. Latin for tears or tearful… I realized (fully) around the two week mark that it’s going to take me way more than a month to really grasp this one, not just technically but conveying the emotion. Now that I recorded it I feel like I can freak out less and just bask in the absolute beauty of it. I’m saying a lot because this song tested me more than I ever expected, but I still really love it and will keep playing it. Still many pauses and mistakes but here it is.
Thanks to everyone here for your encouragement and help, and especially to Andrew and Matt. And Steven for creating such an amazing arrangement.
@jbmills07, that’s so special that you rescue abandoned kittens. Can’t think about that too much or I’ll go back to crying. ππ That is wonderful though. It’s impossible NOT to get attached under those circumstances. π I love cats. Fittingly, I’m a cat person. Not like Andrew Lloyd Webber’s cat people. Anyway, I hope they keep appearing in your videos! And your performances were both fantastic! Everyone’s were. The End! Sorry for this novel. Thanks again! π
The_Bumble_BardParticipantOh thank you! π
The video is unavailable. π₯Ί I bet it was kinda neat though!
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@madz_about_uke, that was amazing! That solo, though. π― So good! You nailed it! π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, haha!! Incongruous is one of my favorite words. Off the top of my head it means, “out of place or keeping.”
Actually, this is a great example of why I’m not cool. ππ
Haha thanks though! π€π
