@surferjay, hahaha, you’re not wrong! I more meant me saying the phrase, “it’s got vibes, man” is incongruous because I’m not what you would call “cool.” πŸ˜‰πŸ˜…

@surferjay, oh, okay, that makes way more sense, lol. I thought part of the point was that you could operate the looper with your foot, even though I may not do that still because………… Well, it’s too much to explain why. πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚ It’s good to know it has that ability though. I think the mini would be good for me starting for sure and I should just go for it. I already have ideas for what I want to try. 😊

That is really impressive! To play through any song that long (or really any length…) without making a mistake is so impressive. That’s always my goal but it’s really tricky sometimes. That’s definitely a great song to learn too. It’s got vibes, man. ……. That’s not something anyone cool says…….. πŸ˜…

Any-way, thanks for the info! Andrew’s arrangement of Toccata and Fugue by Bach is my white whale. See you in eight years once I learn that one! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜…

Gah, thank you, Robin! I really do appreciate that very much, the encouragement. Hope I didn’t just make things weird. 😳

Lacrimosa definitely is a challenge, but I feel like I’m finally starting to get it. Stranger Things is also a great choice; that arrangement is amazing as well.

Oh this seems like a good moment for me to jump on that looper, then! Thanks for pointing that out!

Does that one… have a pedal? Maybe I didn’t look closely enough or I’m missing something. 😳

Oh that’s interesting… I didn’t think about that, how with a looper you’re breaking down the music into minute parts. That’s kind of awesome though because then you get especially good at those specific things. But I see what you mean. Then when you’re asked to put it together it’s not what you’re used to anymore. That’s kind of like if someone asked me to strum a tune I’d be like… πŸ₯Ί Well, if anyone asked me to play anything. πŸ˜£πŸ˜…

It’s good that you map out your goals like that and note all your progress. Maybe I should do the same. 😊

@mindlogik, thanks for sharing the specs (?) on your keyboard and such! Hope you share the new songs here too when they’re done! 😊

Same. The people here are so inspiring in their skills, knowledge, generosity, and kindness. I’m glad I stumbled across this community for those reasons.

Not having a enough time is definitely a problem when you’re working on such quality music, I would imagine. You’re doing great with it though!

Kia ora! (Had to look that up; not even going to pretend that I remembered that from more than a decade ago) πŸ˜…

@robinboyd, no worries about that, friend! I’m glad you shared that because that’s probably my new favorite cover of that song. 😁

I was pretty excited that I managed to put together my own little arrangement of this though, even though it’s really simple. Just because it’s kind of a milestone for me, for where I am in my playing. All this in between Die-Hard-crawling my way through learning Lacrimosa. πŸ˜… But that’s slowly becoming okay too. Just accepting that it won’t be completely perfect by the end of the challenge.

That Beauty and the Beast duet / trio is so dang cute! So good too. πŸ˜πŸ’• Definitely looking forward to more of your singing for sure! 😊

@surferjay, I do remember that video of your setup but was trying to remember where it was. Probs in your last post about looping; that would make sense. πŸ˜…

I think I probably also will start out really simply with the most basic setup for looping. Everyone’s always saying how great that Fishman amp is. Maybe I can find one used…

That is really neat that you have a good chunk of extra time to play uke and such before you work (in theory)! πŸ˜… I get up at the crack of dawn for work, but that means I get out pretty early and have the whole day, pretty much. I’m very sorry to hear your wife went through that; my uncle had a stroke and they can be really destructive. Anxiety is the worst, sigh. And depression. But you just keep going and do your best with each day.

So true, playing uke is like meditation. It’s like therapy. πŸ˜… That’s the main reason I never wanted it to be a source of stress for me because it’s been an escape from woes and worries. I want to learn and grow and struggle with uke, but never let anything take away the joy of it. Also, love that quote. 😊

Ha, thank you, man! I’m going to start looking around for a looper and look at your suggestions. First question: Are most loopers compatible with most amps? Because I have a really tiny amp I currently use.

I also meant to ask about your original post: Don’t you use fingerstyle playing while looping already? You had that for your 3rd year goals. 🧐

@surferjay, thank you kindly, friend! 😁 That really means a lot. I really still don’t have a lot of confidence when it comes to figuring out songs on uke, but that’s something I really want to be able to do. Still have a lot to learn. 😊

I’m also still not quite over @robinboyd ‘s cover of that song. I love spontaneous singing that turns out to be amazing like that. I am straight up enchanted. πŸ˜…

Daaaaang, man! That was so, so good. I actually have a cold right now so that’s an odd coincidence.

I love Andrew Lloyd Webber’s music so much and you nailed the spirit and the feeling of that song, pretty much exactly. Maybe a little too exactly? πŸ˜‚

Hehe, nice! That was really nice though. You never recorded the whole song?

This was actually only the second “complete” song that I tried figuring out on ukulele, but that’s something I used to love doing on piano, figuring out songs by ear. Starting to be able to do the same thing on uke I owe mostly to what I’ve learned from this site and also seeing how they create arrangements. I’ve used other resources too but a lot of what I’m doing now I owe to the inspiration from people on this site. I still feel like I have a lot to learn and a lot more experience to gain. I feel that way because it’s true. 😊

That sounds so lovely, man! That song was maybe meant to be played lower. I mean, it was meant to be sung low, so. πŸ˜…

I feel like that song would sound really good on low G. It is a bit odd that it’s so high up on the neck maybe especially since it’s sung so low. Do you think there’s too much movement around? Ha, thank you, though. I don’t think I emphasized the slides enough when playing because I wanted them to be ridiculous and exaggerated. πŸ˜…

Such amazing playing by everyone so far!

    @jbmills07
, couldn’t help but notice that you have four cats??? And they started fighting in the background right at the crescendo of the song. πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚πŸ˜… It’s odd because they seemed to like Meowzart in your first video…………………… You played wonderfully though!

Meanwhile, still working on that song myself. Got a good chunk down okayish but the really tricky chords and chord-switching section that starts with measure 7 is taking a bit to learn.

@mindlogik, welcome to you! Your setup is perfection! What kind of keyboard do you have, if you don’t mind saying?

That song is amazing and adorable! The Kiwi accent lends itself so well to singing. 😁

Just have to say, I love New Zealand so much, everything about it. My sister and I went there once right after high school and it’s an incredible place. One of the loveliest places on earth with the kindest, most creative and brilliant people.

Congrats on 5 years with the site!
