The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, that’s so good, man! I do love that style of playing, the jazzy improv and layer-building-ness (terminology is a struggle for me). I’m hoping this month I can get myself a looper but I think I need to definitely up my theory game / fretboard knowledge before I can improvise like that.
I’m also really interested in doing some of the things in the lessons when you play two complete “parts” of a complete song, like playing rhythm, harmony, and melody. And put them together in the same video, but I think I need to watch the recording course for that. ๐
I feel like I know how to play a fair number of things, can slowly figure out most things on my own, and have good intuition with music but really have a hard time with terminology, formal theory, and anything with technology. But you and others here really seem to have a mastery over those things. I guess the benefit of theory knowledge is that you’re not bumbling around as much guessing. ๐

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@biancak, same!! It’s actually better than expected which didn’t seem possible. That crescendo though… Good golly! I may never be able to do it justice, but I still want to try shredding those measures like an extra sharp cheddar. (Cancels weekend plans) ๐๐
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, I loved this! This may be a dumb question but you completely created the back track you’re improvising along with yourself, right?
I like how you played it all out then just sat and grooved to it for a bit when you were done. ๐
@mark65536, just wanted to say that your September entry was amazing and I love the editing! I was hoping that you’d high five yourself at the end though. ๐
The_Bumble_BardParticipantYes, I think that’s my struggle at times is that I like to ask a lot of questions, and have things explained in a less formal way, like in the video lessons where theory is applied to a song “in action,” or by observing others asking questions on the forum, but yours is a really good strategy. I do know a fair amount of theory things but the biggest challenges are memorizing the notes on the ukulele. I know every one on a piano and a fair number of chords but it’s like I’m trying to reprogram my brain. ๐ ๐ณ
What you described in your second paragraph is exactly what I mean! That moment where something just “clicks” is something truly special. ๐

The_Bumble_BardParticipantI’m so excited for this, man! So many great song options, but I’m especially excited for Lacrimosa. That could be a useful song to have “on hand” for every day life. ๐

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, I said “apricots” the first time, but then realized that I find them disgusting. There is a convoluted reason why I think learning tastes like a chocolate covered raisin, but I’ll just say, I love them too! ๐๐ And that was a lovely take!!
Good golly these entries are ridiculous (in a good way). ๐
The_Bumble_BardParticipantI misspelled the made up word the second time: * Uke-piphany
๐
@surferjay, you’re allowed two or as many as you want, friend! ๐Just gotta comment…
1. Welp, that’s pretty amazing! I did start that course but got a bit overwhelmed about the memorizing the fretboard part. ๐ณ Did you just keep going forward or did you manage to achieve that feat first?
2. Oh gosh, that’s such a good one!! I think that’s part of why I love this community here is that even if there is a critique needed, it’s coupled with encouragement. It does shatter your confidence if you’re only hearing bad things or if you’re being mostly ignored. I’m a middle child. ๐
@robinboyd, that is quite amazing! I may have heard that before, but the way you say it, that really makes sense. I feel like I need to ponder upon that one.If we’re talking *before* RC101, then I’d say… That I truly loved playing ukulele as a way to soothe my soul, man. Not even joking. But for me the things I learned here and the connections I’ve made so far, they’ve really changed how I view the ukulele and what’s possible to do with it, and I had lofty ambitions to begin with. ๐
Thank you for sharing! Our ramble threads continue. ๐๐๐
I actually have other uke-piphanies I may share later.

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@mkstewart67, same! It’s always so exciting to learn something new, and to learn from everyone else here! Learning is delicious. But now I’m wondering what learning would taste like. Maybe like chocolate covered raisins?

The_Bumble_BardParticipantmkstewart67, that was so lovely and made me smile! And all the entries that came before were incredible! I’m probably not going to have time to learn one of these in time now because I way overestimated my ability to learn the……………… Tremble thing for the Misirou. Also only now are my nails long enough to do it. Excuses, excuses. Oh well, at least I’m slightly better at it now! Still, so much fun to listen to everyone’s entries, there’s just so much to learn! ๐๐
The_Bumble_BardParticipantThis is so precious and adorable! He does such an amazing job! I feel like this little fellow has a bright future already being so talented! Good job, little guy! ๐

The_Bumble_BardParticipantThat is a really good rule! Thankfully I haven’t needed a rule like that because crushing poverty kept me from acting on my uke-buying impulses. ๐ “Food, or ukuleles?” It was sometimes still a hard choice. The most extravagant thing I bought on my own was even before the pandemic, the banjolele.
After watching many of the live lessons on topics like this, I do see the value in upgrading to more quality ukuleles eventually, but I have at least one for now–the one I won from here, lol.

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@ccwuke, that was so good! Everyone’s is this month. The performance anxiety is such a struggle, for me it’s a huge hurdle. It is helpful to know that even these great players still struggle with it but just push through.

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@robinboyd, that’s pretty adorable! My sister-in-law used to teach and play guitar to accompany singing with her students too.
Ah, that makes sense. Sometimes I want to get another uke for foolish aesthetic reasons but so far I’ve resisted doing that. ๐

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@robinboyd, that seems like some pretty sweet swag! Wait, what kind of job can you get that you play ukulele while at work? ……………. ๐ณ๐
………….Oh yeah, you have to be a crazy good player for that to be a thing, and also often a great teacher.
I’m curious why other people get multiples of the same size ukulele, what your reasons might be?
September 18, 2022 at 6:56 pm in reply to: September 13, 2022 โ Live Lesson: What Ukulele Can Do That Guitar Canโt #53688
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@june2020 I pretty much do exactly what Andrew just said to remember the live lesson: Put a reminder on my calendar with a time set with it.
@robinboyd, ha, that all makes sense, I think! Thank you for explaining that. I knew about some of those overlaps but that’s part of why I’m mainly focusing on the uke. I can only comprehend so much at a time. ๐ I feel like if I threw in the guitarlele it would require reprogramming my brain even more.Sigh, stretch chords are a challenge for me. I noticed in the lesson that Matt, seemingly without batting an eye, stretched from fret 2 to 10. I’ll just have to get finger extensions. Then I could also use them for a Halloween costume, because that’s terrifying. ๐
@surferjay, that’s a pretty dang great collection! I have wanted a rainbow uke for a long time but could not justify it because the main reason I wanted it was, “ohhhh pretty rainbows!” ๐Is one of the tenors you have an electric uke?
This is my collection:
– My orange Hola! Soprano uke. It’s the cheapest but still pretty much my favorite uke.
– A Donner banjolele
– A Luna concert uke that I got for Christmas last year
– The fight centurion tenor electric ukulele that I won here ๐
– A child’s guitar that I bought for $15 from a thrift store because I didn’t realize what it was. ๐
I may get a sopranissimo uke as a Christmas present for myself at some point. My family would get it for me but I’m not sure I could take the joking sarcastic glances. ๐๐
