@Stephen thanks for the encouraging and constructive feedback. I think I am always trying to speed up and probably before I ought to – the entry was at about 80%, I’ve now gone back and tried it at 70% and it does sound better and more fluid. Will keep on working at it – thanks again!

Here is my attempt at Into the Maze. I’m not quite up to speed but won’t have time to post next weekend. One thing I have noticed is that Andrew and other teachers (and the more experienced players) seem to hardly move the right hand away from the strings, which presumably is optimal for playing songs at speed. Though I wouldn’t say my hand is moving or bouncing a lot it is in comparison. If I try not to move my hand even with curling my fingers in I still catch the strings…. any suggestions?

As I’m not keen on Everlong I have tried Santa Fe, which is well beyond my skill level. However, I gave it a go and learnt quite alot along the way. I found the rhythm in Melody C very difficult (as is clearly apparent!) especially the last bar. On a positive this was the first song that I managed to more or less memorise (hence the occaisional pause when the neurons weren’t quite firing fast enough!); though I did have the tabs running in the background..

Hi Stephen, thanks for the encouraging feedback! I’m working my way through the harmonics course though annoyingly broke my right thumbnail last week. Struggling with the tapping but watching some of Andrew’s feedback to comments on that. Will carry on working on the Witcher song and will pay attention to your feedback. Thank you!

Toss a coin to your witcher

I nearly didnt try this song as I thought it would be too ambitious, but glad I did as I enjoyed the series and love the arrangment and learning to play it – though it still needs alot of work. I found the pull-offs in bar 4 difficult – my ring finger on the C string seemed to hamper the movememt of my middle finger. Apologies for the sighs of relief that you can hear when I passed each pressure point in the song!

Based on my limited knowledge (which is very limited!) if the action is fine then it may be the nut that needs adjusting rather than the saddle. I seem to remember reading somewhere if you depress the G string at the 3rd fret then the string should nearly touch the first fret i.e. so you can only just get a piece of paper between the string and the 1st fret. If the gap is larger than that it may mean that the strings are too high at the neck and hence are harder to bar. If that is the case then the nut slots need some attention – filing down – though I wouldn’t try that myself and would take it to a reputable music shop. Anyway just thought I would mention it.

Steven, thanks for the constructive feedback. I’ve also realised on re-watching your lesson that my arm needs to be positioned so it is running more parallel to the strings. On re-positioning my arm I am moving my wrist less, getting there….slowly.

    Hi, I joined RC101 a few months ago – a great decision!

I started this course at the beginning of October – definitely a challenge! Surprisingly, I have found that although my right hand technique for the triple picking pattern isn’t quite there, it has helped in developing the ‘normal’ picking style as it has made me focus a lot more on right hand finger control.

Anyway here is my entry for the October, and my very first challenge! I’m not up to speed yet and there is still too much wrist movement – but it has improved. I’ll keep working on it!
