Thanks Andrew for the feedback! This challenge was a little over my head for sure but I wanted to at least try. I thought about changing it to an Am after I got into the project but decided to stick with my guns and go with what I was hearing. As I got through the Intro… you see where I stopped,, you are absolutely right, I ended where the melody should have started because it was gonna be too tough for me! When Things settle from the move, I will definitely keep working on it!

Thanks everyone! I think I will take your advice and try the low G fluorocarbon living water. Thanks so much! This saved me hours of research!

Thanks mistaken! I just wanted to be sure! Next question.. Aquila seems to be the best brand but there are so many types. Any recommendations for what type to try?

I have a question for anyone that may know the answer to this… I just bought a Luna tribal tenor ukulele. My question is… Do all tenor ukuleles have a low G string? Or does tenor just refer to the size? This ukulele has a high G string so I’m not sure if the music store put the wrong strings on it or if it’s correct… and if it is correct, can I put a low g string on it? Thanks. Any help would be appreciated

So as far as the challenge, My goal was to be able to piece together something by ear then put it on paper. I chose Metallica “ Nothing Else Matters”. Well… it was much harder than anticipated! Giving me a great appreciation for what Andrew and Stephen do! I did manage to get the introduction of the song as done as I could given the fact that my husband and I moved 1000 miles away from where we were. My time became limited. I’m sure this will disqualify me from the prize and that is ok. I just wanted to show that I am still working on my goal. My next step is learning how to play it fluently. I can only play one measure at a time so I will spare all of you but the work I have done is attached. {hopefully the attachment works) Good work everyone else, I’ve been enjoying the progress!

Everything about you lessons are great! As a beginner, I still have difficulty transitioning to more difficult chords and avoid songs with E’S OR B’S. LOL Or I find cheat ways to get around them. Em (I play a G). More strumming exercises and patterns and specific ways to get use to the “ hard chords” would be my vote. Instant gratification in the beginning for me was what motivated me to learn more but I still like to strum and sing a song in between learning the technical stuff. I’m looking forward to the addition of new beginner songs! Btw…Dueling Banjos on ukulele would be awesome!

Hello Everyone! Wow! I’m impressed with everyone’s choices for this challenge. Btw… love it! I’m excited for this one.

I am definitely a beginner. I bought my first ukulele at the end of July 2018 and like most beginners, learned the DDU UDU strum with C G AM F.. I’ve been on RC101 since October and mainly signed up to learn how to play chord melody. I like to sing but not all the time every time. (And probably shouldn’t..lol) I was extremely intimidated when I first saw Andrew on YouTube but I’m so glad that I signed up anyway. I have learned so much! I can honestly say I have improved so much already! Thank you Andrew for that.

The challenge: So for my personal challenge, I have been learning technique with each song I practice from RC101. Ode to joy,Romance,Our First song,Etude #3,Fur Elise and First Noel are the songs I have learned so far. With those and the exercises I have done, hammer ones, pull offs, slides and incorporating my pinky a lot plus music theory etc…

EXECUTION: I have decided to do “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica but I’m going to complete my own arrangement. Training my ear,my plan is to write this song down in tablature, according to what I hear, and include different techniques of chord melody I have learned so far.It will definitely be written for the beginner by a beginner but this will enable me to start working toward my long term goal of being able to create my own arrangement.

APPLICATION: I WILL BE WORKING ON THIS DAILY! My practice schedule is for at least an hour everyday anyway but I have a feeling this will require me to practice more. I will also continue to practice individual techniques and incorporate them into this piece.

EVALUATION: I also have a legitimate fear of the record button…lol and of playing in front of people so as part of evaluating myself, I will play my arrangement for my husband and friends as I go and obtain feed back and at the end of the month I will post the results for your feedback and share my written work.

Sorry for the novel everyone! Can you tell I’m excited!

Not free of mistakes. But way better than the walking dead! Lol As a beginner, this style is challenging for sure and I love learning here at Rock Class! Oh, why is it that every time you hit the record button, you all of a sudden forget how to play ….

    Hope this works…
