Beautiful song. A bit of a challenge for my arthritic fingers but I tried to do it justice.

This is two versions of April Smiles. I really liked the solo version slower. It sounds like a romantic waltz. The strum/solo version is faster, more like a jig. I like how the same song can have different feelings depending on how it’s played.

planetfinkParticipantHere is my new attempt at Moon. While listening to the older version I noticed that I stopped and restarted the piece anytime I made a mistake. Realistically I know I am not going to get through a piece this long with an error or two so I focused on playing through my mistakes, trying to keep the rhythm going. It’s not perfect but I am happy with the improvement.

planetfinkParticipantGreat idea for a challenge. I don’t often take the time to keep up the tunes I’ve learned. I decided to revisit Moon by Taimane. I can’t believe I took this on for my second submission to RockClass101. It’s rough in places but I think I got some of the emotional feel of the piece.
Here’s the video from Dec. 2018. It might have an ad. YouTube just puts them there. I don’t know how to get rid of them. And I certainly don’t make any money from them. If anyone knows how to get rid of them, let me know.December 9, 2024 at 6:56 pm in reply to: Participate in the December 2024 Member Challenge – WIN $3,100 Kanile’a #64809
planetfinkParticipantThanks Andrew. I played it straight on the tenor, basically followed the recording but when I switched to the baritone I felt it needed some rubato and dynamics.

I learned it first on my tenor but for fun tried it on the baritone. I really like the it sounds.

planetfinkParticipantNot an entry. I had to try Etude 35. It It sounded so good on baritone. I liked playing it at a slow easy pace. Just sounded right to me

I rarely play my baritone. I enjoyed learning to play this piece.

planetfinkParticipantThanks @andrew Getting the strumming fast enough was a struggle. I could play the rest of the piece up to speed but when I tried to record the strumming fell apart. So I slowed the whole thing down to keep everything in rhythm.

I recorded a version of this six years ago. It was nice to revisit it. I played it better this time and relearned it way faster than learning it the first time. It’s nice to see evidence of progress.

planetfinkParticipant@The_Bumble_Bard Thanks. I really worked hard to get the emotional feel. Billie Eilish sings the song with a breathy voice and I tried to get a little of that tone. I love Matt’s arrangement.

I attempted to get a “perfect” recording of this because the arrangement is so beautiful I felt it deserved it. Then my daughter reminded me the whole point of the song is that you don’t have to be perfect. -
