ParticipantThanks for the help, Andrew. I’ve been working on dynamics with Fly me to the Moon, as your feedback was a little similar for that one. I’m not that good at expressing my emotion so this is a chalenge. In fact, I started playing ukulele when I was caring for a dying pet this January and it really helped me through that. Anyway, thanks again for your thoughtful and appropriate guidance toward the next level. You are a great teacher!

ParticipantHere’s my attempt. I’m still slow and the camera makes me jittery. But I really enjoyed trying to learn this piece.

ParticipantI can play it a little better than this, but, hey, if I could play it perfectly then there would be no reason for feedback, which I obviously need. Thanks Andrew. I really like this idea.

ParticipantAs I practice Fingerpicking Etude #11, I think I’ve noticed that if a bar chord doesn’t sound good, I don’t always have to press harder but if I just move my pressure closer to the fret, that cleans it up. Does that make sense?
Does anyone else have tips or techniques that help with bar chords?

ParticipantFingerpicking Etude #11: such a beautiful fun piece.
I wanted to learn it but theme 2 was overwhelming me so I used Guitar Pro to transcribe it into 16 bars instead of 8, making it so much easier start practicing. Like a crutch or a stepping stone. No more 32nd notes.
Now I can even get through the real version. slowly
Does getting a piece performance ready mean totally memorizing it?March 31, 2018 at 3:54 pm in reply to: Participate in the March 2018 Member Challenge – Random Themed! #16518pup123
ParticipantSorry this chopsticks isn’t more polished. Andrew, do you recommend trying to keep the rhythm and play past mistakes or redoing?

ParticipantHi Andrew and thanks for all the lessons!
I’ve been working on your arrangement of “I’m Yours” and I’m struggling with the “slaps.” I think I am seeing 3 different techniques that you use:
1- slapping the curled fingers onto the strings, usually followed by a pluck
2- strum while simultaneously muting with the thumb pad of the palm of the right hand
3- strum while muting the strings with the left hand fingers
Since they are all notated as a slap, how do you decide which technique to use in each situation?
Thanks for the incentive to ask my question…

ParticipantI just joined this month. Hi from Seattle! My Uke Blues still has hesitations and missed or frizzie sounding notes here and there, but nothing bad enough to wake the dog.
