rickeymikeMemberuku_on – Great job covering that entire fret board. Being a beginner, I’m super impressed that I didn’t see your thumb throughout your performance and you did it without a neck strap. I can’t seem to support my uke without my thumb wrapping around the neck. Any tips to how you keep the uke so steady?

rickeymikeMemberLisa, I like it. It reminds me of a song that a maid in waiting would play for Mary Queen of Scots.
Sound is great. New Mike?

It’s a Fender Grace Van signature.January 26, 2019 at 11:41 am in reply to: Participate in the January 2019 Member Challenge – You Decide What To Work On! #24422
rickeymikeMemberLisa, Thank you.
Loving my Gracie. She has quite a sustain on those strings so I have to be more careful than before with touching the strings, expecially with my nail. The slightest touch will result in a buzz because the string is still vibrating. I’m 100% pleased with Gracie. So glad I was able to play a half dozen or so concerts before I decided.January 25, 2019 at 7:34 pm in reply to: Participate in the January 2019 Member Challenge – You Decide What To Work On! #24391
rickeymikeMemberHere is my January submission. I did wind up choosing the Sinatra arrangement. Same notes as Andrew’s arrangement with a few rhythm changes.

rickeymikeMemberNice progress all.
Robin- I think it’s in your singing key.
Awiea – new uke sounds great.
uku- love the song, love Tiny.
Walter-maybe not exciting but very necessary. Good challenge choice.
rickeymikeMemberHave you ever tried recording with the tablet?

rickeymikeMember3rd day? Wow! You’ve got this one. Can’t wait to hear the final product.
rickeymikeMemberLisa, I use my laptop for recording the challenges. Because of allergies, I tend to breathe through my mouth a lot which the mike picks up and I hate it. I’ve tried to play like Andrew with his stiff-lip approach but the stuffed nose sound is worse. LOL I’m watching old Esther Williams movies to practice holding my breath longer.
Seriously though, if you don’t have a laptop or notebook, consider getting one. They all have built in mics. Do you have a desktop or are you accessing RockClass with your phone exclusively? External plug in Mics are available for desktops as well.
rickeymikeMemberBecky Go for it. The Dead uke had a very good sound to it and the price is right!

rickeymikeMemberLisa I picked it out mainly because this is the type of song (standards) that I’m moving towards in my playing….my niche. And of course it was the perfect song for rhythmic notation. But, ha, you’re just going to have to break out the Marks-a-Lot and black out those tabs, ’cause I need them. Ha.

rickeymikeMemberWith everyone’s permission, I will call myself a seasoned beginner. I will be working on RHYTHM.
I will apply this to the song ” In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning”. Although a simple melody, the rhythm notation is challenging.I will put in at least one hour each day for the next 15 days, first to memorize the song and then to hone in on the correct rhythm.
If I choose to sing, I will change the rhythm to Sinatra’s 1955 version of this song. (Actually, I don’t think that there is too much difference).
