mdugalParticipantThanks Andrew! I’m learning and having fun. Just two months ago, it was not in my plans to participate. Thanks for the constructive comments. I will capitalize and move on to the next challenge.
Best regards,
Michel.November 29, 2019 at 10:05 am #33933cyberloh

ripleyParticipantThanks for the feedback @Stephen 🙂
I hadn’t noticed the pull-off type string noise until you mentioned it but I hear it now! I’ll start trying to pay more attention to that and practicing muting.November 29, 2019 at 1:03 pm #33949kirpuff

I wish November had 50 days because I definitely needed the practice on this one! It’s not as smooth as I wish it was but as soon as the camera is on fingers freeze up, memory deletes and it’s a crapshoot as to whether or not I can even get through the thing! It didnt completely fall apart during this take so I think this is gonna have to do for now (plus, my hands are tired!)
Super fun arrangement of one of my favorite songs ever! Thanks so much to Andrew and Evan, I had a lot of fun working on it and will continue to do so 🙂

AndrewKeymastercyberloh – Very nice playing! As you continue to practice, I’d focus mostly on transitions. Listen back to your performance and notate where pauses occurred between chords/phrases. Besides slowing down and looping these sections, I’d also suggest practicing only the chord transitions; i.e. going from the 1st chord to the next. That will help you get more comfortable with the muscle memory required to change chords.
smudge – Beautiful! Excellent performance overall. The only thing that stood out to me was the rhythm in two sections:
1) Walk up in bar 6. A lot of folks had trouble with this part. Check out this video that I made for another member earlier this month. It explains what’s happening here.
2) In the first bar of the bridge, beat 2 is an 8th note triplet. To me, I’m hearing you play 16th notes, in other words, too fast. Check out this lesson for an explanation of this rhythm.
kirpuff – YES! Our second entry for Bohemian 🙂 BRAVO! Your playing is so clean, truly amazing!
I feel you on the 50 days comment. Here’s what I’d work on as you continue to practice. The biggest issue I’m hearing is in timing. Your performance has a very rubato feel to it, which means sections are played in their own tempo and/or it continually varies. But for this piece, I think being a little bit more consistent should be your goal.
So I would take one section at a time, put on a metronome or use the on-screen tab viewer, and work on keeping it steady. Start slow and work on four to eight bars at a time; build it as you go. But again, amazing job! That was super fun to watch!

rickeymikeMemberWow, kirpuff. You did super well! Love those high notes. Treat those tired hands to a well deserved massage and full spa treatment.

ParticipantHi All,

I really enjoyed this month’s challenge. I did Can’t Help Falling in Love and it was so fun. It’s still rough but I think I was able to achieve some melodic phrases. Andrew, thanks for suggesting I use a strap to steady my uke. I’ve been using one for about a week and I think it’s really helping.
Good luck everyone and looking forward to next month’s challenge 🙂

Hi, here is my version of Bohemian Rhapsody. Thank you to Andrew and Evan for making this great song obtainable for my skill level. I must say it was very gratifying to finally make it to page 19. I will need many more hours to play smoothly but wanted to get this in for the challenge.
