AndrewKeymaster@tessiert – Here’s my feedback for you 🙂
@karenj – I thought you played it very well, Karen. Honestly, it just sounds like you need to practice with me in the tab player.I like to call it: rinse and repeat LOL. Watch this old video of mine. It’s literally me playing the same part three times in a row with the record.
But when we play with the music, as opposed to just our self, it helps smooth out timing. And it’s fun to do!
@lisadmh – Bravo! You really impressed me last month and you did it again this month 🙂
@lhamilton – Beautiful playing, Linda! One tip for the nerves. Try hitting record when you sit down to warm up / start playing. Then do a few takes while it’s still recording. Those nerves should wear off after 5 or 10 minutes. You can use the same approach if you perform live. Start with an easy song or 2. Then when the nerves wear off, bust out the harder tunes 🙂
@june2020 – Excellent take! This is the best performance I’ve heard from you to date 🙂My only advice is to work on eliminating the pauses in transitions during the chorus. But overall it was awesome! Keep up the great work!
@wongbrown – Beautiful playing, Sheila! As you continue practicing, try playing 8 bar sections with Steven in the tab player. His playing will act as a guide to help keep you locked in timing-wise. When you feel like you’re glued to him, record yourself playing solo and listen back. When you’ve got perfect timing, move on to the next 8 bars with the same method.May 28, 2022 at 3:19 pm in reply to: Participate in the May 2022 Member Challenge – WIN $6,000 Kanile’a Ukulele #52057
AndrewKeymasterlaurajax – Fantastic performance! My suggestion, as you continue to practice, is to work on keeping the flow steady as there’s a few pauses in some transitions. Try breaking your practice into 8 bar sections. That way you can build the song as you go instead of trying to tackle it all at once.
joe150 – Great job, Joe! You’ve got a great base established. As you continue to practice, I want you to play along with Matt in the tab player. Try 4 bar sections at a time. Focus on keeping the timing steady.
riley_ukulele – Beautiful performance! Love the build up in dynamics during the chorus. And great tone!
@qiuyan – Beautiful playing! You can def handle the harder songs. Keep up the great work!gmflin8 – Excellent performance! I think you’re ready to start building the tempo. Try 10 BPM faster and gradually increase from there. Keep up the great work!
jebergeron – Well done! Timing and feel are great throughout! There’s really only a few bars that I would target your practice on: bar 3 into 4 in the verse and the first bar of the chorus. There’s a little pause with the transitions there. But overall it was awesome!
ukandrea – Great job, Andrea! Some of the rhythms sound a little rushed, which is understandable as this song has a lot of syncopation. So I’d recommend breaking it into sections and playing with the tab player. That’ll help smooth out the timing.
misterbones – Fantastic performance! I also find it difficult to memorize pieces that have subtle variations. Especially classical music. For some reason that genre trips me up more than any other.
One tip, which is kind of cheating, is that if I was to play one of these tunes in a public performance, I’d forgo all the variations and play each verse/chorus as copy/paste. Some of these pieces are so intricate that I’m not sure anyone would catch the difference if you included them or not.
brettboy – Great interpretation! I’m not sure which version I like more. The deep tone is beautiful but the opposite is as well 🙂
jchita – Wow, Julie! I can’t believe how developed your playing is after only 8 months. Timing was excellent, you nailed the playful swing feel and you’ve got a great mix of staccato/sustained chord hits. I’m impressed! Keep doing what you’re doing, it’s working 🙂

AndrewKeymasterzongozongo – Excellent performance! A few measures sound like they could use a little polishing, but overall it was very well played! Keep up the great work 🙂
sir_anzalot – Excellent playing, Andy! My only suggestion is to target your practice on the 2nd and 3rd bar of the chorus. Those are finger frenzy measures! Take it slow and see if you can clean it up a bit.
suekulele – Wow! What a view with a performance to match it 🙂
My suggestion, as you continue to practice, is to work on keeping the flow steady as there’s a few pauses in some transitions. Try breaking your practice into 8 bar sections. That way you can build the song as you go instead of trying to tackle it all at once.
ebetsimo – Gorgeous playing, well done!
AndrewKeymasterWelcome, @hajaar! Glad you found us 🙂
I’d recommend jumping into our Beginner’s Course. We cover a lot of the topics you brought up there.

AndrewKeymasterThanks y’all!
@jbmills07 – This is the best performance I’ve heard from you to date. I’m really impressed with how well you’ve been doing these last few months! Keep up the great work, Justin 🙂May 23, 2022 at 11:17 pm in reply to: Participate in the May 2022 Member Challenge – WIN $6,000 Kanile’a Ukulele #51997
AndrewKeymasterHere’s everyone on page 3 that I hadn’t gotten to.
artcrocker – Really well done and I like the subtle changes you threw in there 🙂
pysanky – excellent playing all around! Honestly, the only critique I have is that the occasional note/chord wasn’t crystal clear. It sounds like something that can be overcome by taking those sections/phrases at a slower tempo when practicing. Keep up the great work!
shmu88 – Beautiful playing! Always an honor to share your performances with our community 🙂
@maryjanew – So sorry for your loss, MJ.ccwuke – Here’s my feedback for you 🙂
Here’s everyone on page 4 so far.
@moonshine – Excellent feel and playful vibe throughout. Well done!
@johanna2509 – beautiful performance! I will send it to Steven to watch. I’m sure he’ll love it 🙂
@simonalexander – Great job singing and playing, Simon! I know Paul played it faster than Ashley and I, but I do think this arrangement sounds better at a slower tempo. And it’s definitely much easier to play clean at a slower tempo. So my only suggestion for you is to consider slowing the tempo a little bit.
@tric_o_tronic – Great job! So I noticed a lot of your strumming motion comes from pivoting at the wrist. You want the forearm to move with the hand as it helps produce a more fluid sound. Check out this lesson and this one. Matt breaks down the fundamentals of strumming in the first one and offers five additional tips in the second one.
@marianne – Beautifully done and you have a lovely singing voice 🙂
@herbdrawsaline – Great playing with a nice playful feel throughout!
@gi_gi_ – Way to go, Gi Gi! You’ve been knocking these challenges outta the park! But I do have one critique for you. At 56 seconds, you made a mistake and restarted the melody. Always play through your mistakes. We want to pretend like we’re playing in an ensemble. If we make a mistake, the band never stops and starts again, instead they carry on and the audience usually doesn’t notice 🙂
@rebeca – You nailed it! Bravo!
@leslieb – That was an excellent take! The barre chords sounded great! Only thing I’d say is to target your practice towards speeding up the single note phrase at the end. But keep doing what you’re doing! It’s working 🙂May 19, 2022 at 11:26 pm in reply to: May 14, 2022 – Live Lesson: How to Have More Fun Playing Ukulele #51968
AndrewKeymasterYes, we are going to make a lesson on it Charley 🙂

AndrewKeymaster@debb1985 – Great playing as always, Debb! Funny you mention the challenges that come with playing it on baritone. I actually thought the exact same thing when I was playing it on tenor the other day (that it’s easier to play on concert). Then I thought this is a great excuse to buy a uke in every size haha.
But it’s funny how the opposite is true too. For example, I find the chord shapes in this song very challenging to play on concert. They’re much easier to fret on the baritone.
@katazumiri – Love the duet with bass! Excellent playing all around 🙂
@jsanjuan – Excellent take with great feel throughout!
@mark1256 – Your performance was awesome, just like Nathalie’s 🙂The only thing I want to hear more of is a bit more sustain in the first bar of the choruses. Other than that, it was great overall. Timing was great too!
@dianna – Awesome take! Love the scenery and the birds chirping 🙂
@lynnzo – Well done! Double check ending 4 in verse 1. It uses a much simpler rhythm than the triplet strum you through in there 😉May 12, 2022 at 10:10 pm in reply to: Participate in the May 2022 Member Challenge – WIN $6,000 Kanile’a Ukulele #51912
AndrewKeymaster@deadbuggy – Beautifully played and I like the subtle changes you threw in 🙂
@cemusicalele – Excellent performance! You nailed the playful feel, well done!
@leb397 – Great performance, Louisa! I enjoyed watching it 🙂The one area I’d suggest working on is barre chord note clarity. Some of the barre chords sound like a note is being unintentionally muted. Mainly the D chords. Like the first one (2225) and the ultra hard fingering Matt does for 2220.
For the most part, your form looks fine. But scoot the index finger back a little so it’s not over the metal fret on string 4. Other than that, it’s all a finger strength game.
Here’s a video I made a couple years ago for another member that talks about both of these areas and gives a little exercise idea. You can run this exercise up/down the neck using any barre chord shape.
AndrewKeymasterSick intro, Jeremy!

AndrewKeymaster@qiuyan – Well done, Qiuyan! I agree with you. A slower tempo will allow you to focus on those 2 areas. But I’d also recommend to work towards gradually bringing it up to the tempo of this performance.
@clempek – Well played, Clem! Your take captured the fun vibes of the original recording 🙂
@nthibode – Brilliant as always, Nathalie! Def gonna share this!
@rafaela – Excellent performance with great feel throughout!
AndrewKeymasterHi Greg, give this exercise a try and let me know if you have any ?’s 🙂

AndrewKeymaster@lyndallk – Lovely take, Lyndall and truly amazing progress for just one week of practice! I’d love to hear where you get it when you get a chance to pick up the uke again 🙂
@laurakarr12 – Awesome to hear about the donation by your uke group! And your performance was excellent! Great job on nailing the playful feel 🙂May 5, 2022 at 2:31 pm in reply to: Participate in the May 2022 Member Challenge – WIN $6,000 Kanile’a Ukulele #51863
AndrewKeymaster@evapaju – Excellent take, Eva. Keep up the great work!
@pysanky – Eva is spot on! I always update the tab player to reflect the performance version. Sometimes this differs from the lesson version, which you noticed. We try our best to play exactly as taught, but sometimes when you’re in the moment a note/chord here or there changes.
AndrewKeymasterGlad to have you on-board, Mark! You have a beautiful collection. Hope to hear one of those ukes in a monthly challenge 🙂
