The_Bumble_BardParticipant@yukulele, haha, of course! It was really well put together but also quite funny because your enthusiasm and hijinx swept me away. ππ π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, hahaha we were having too much fun! Look forward to you joining the madness soon after holiday madness is over. π
@surferjay, that was so sweet! So chill. Y’all are posting some great videos, I need to dig into all of them!
@gi_gi_ can’t wait to hear what you do when you share! πAt some point I’ll post some more loops. There are some other things I’ve been working on too that hopefully will be shareable soon.
Happy Holidays to you guys, in case you also get swept into the holiday madness! ππππ

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@jbmills07, that was such a lovely take! Pretty much perfect. ππ
And thank you! It’s so nice of you to say that. The part I find trickiest in that song is transitioning around the E7 chord in measure 10 – 11. Hopefully I said that right. π I likely will record the second take awkwardly long after Christmas. ππ
And @abster, such an incredible job on that same song! Really amazing!
Everyone’s entries were so good and it’s so lovely to read all the kind posts everyone wrote. I think it really says something that everyone sees how special this group is.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, all! ππ

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, I was wondering if you were going to chime in but this time of year is crazy for most people. Well, it’s kinda crazy for me and I work full-time but still somehow have way too much time on my hands. π
Playing in front of other people can be so terrifying and I’ve had some bad experiences that make it even harder, but I’m still working on it. I still get the purest joy and escape when playing on my own, but RC101 has been one of the most encouraging and safe spaces for performing for me too. π
@robinboyd, @surferjay you nailed that explanation! Obviously, that’s what I meant, of course. ππ
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@recdog, that is so flippin’ cool! Thanks for sharing! π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, completely agree! Matt is the best, an actual gem. I look forward to these lessons each month because they’re so much fun and so informative. There’s so many little musical delights of truth packed in each lesson. π
@gi_gi_ , so the melody is notes that would be sung in any song. So, the melody in Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star is the notes that go along with the words. The harmony is all the notes that go along with that. I mean… Is that how you could explain it? What the heck do I know? ππ π₯Ί
@Andrew, what is a melody? Haaaalp.
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, hahaha!! Pure gold! Let’s all do it! π HEAVY focus on tambourines, but also one lunatic woman with a cowbell who bursts into the room on occasion. π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, I’m so sorry, when you first said “I want to buy ‘The Ukulele Podcast'” for some weird reason I thought it was something you were completely making up because Ihadneverheardofitbeforeyouguysmentionedhere and until I saw a couple of these videos recently. (Hangs head in shame) Then even after you posted the first video, @gi_gi_ , it didn’t click, and I continued to think it was something you had made up, like a new podcast we could do. π Now knowing what it is, absolutely I’d be on tambourine or cow bell duty (“I’ve got a fevah”) or just watch in awe. You guys can jam. I’ll join maybe in 5 – 10 years from now π–or never after watching that video you just posted. Where’d that ukulele pyre go again? π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, hahaha sounds like a plan! π But since I don’t really have the authority or knowledge to talk about………….. most things, let alone ukulele, I’ll continue to be the bumbling sitcom side character on the (hypothetical) podcast that I seem to be in the rest of my life. ππ Hahaha that happened to me once too and I was like, “girl, you done now.” But yeah it’s all good. π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, haha! Well, I found it funny. I’m quite fond of British humour and all humor, like most humans that exist. π Normally I try to reply to other people while interjecting my own foolishness, but I failed that time then felt awkward, like I was interrupting. I don’t want to assume too much, but I feel like you and I both struggle with some social anxiety after we write here. Well, I struggle with that in general, in life. It’s all okay though. π
@gi_gi_ that’s so true! Sometimes it makes all the difference in the world just to have one person encourage you. That’s how I’ve felt so much from this site from the instructors and you, my faraway uke friends. I’m grateful for that. π₯°
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@cinichol, I love that so much! That is such a beautiful thing to experience, or re-experience, just the pure joy of making music and expressing yourself that way. ππ
Hehehe, uke-piphany! So stupid. π Going about my day now–on occasion–I think about how “uke-” can be added as a prefix or pun, and how “-lele” can act as a suffix. I ask myself, “will it ‘-lele’?” π I literally never in my wildest dreams thought I would become this obsessed with the ukulele, but I’m glad it happened, and I owe this site and the people here for 90% of what I know and can do now on uke. The ukulele community as a whole is only made up of wonderful, wonderful people in my experience.
I thought you might appreciate that tangent about weird portmanteaus and puns since it says you’re a creative writing instructor on your profile? I love writing… Obviously. π
Anyway, glad you appreciated this thread; there were some pretty dang good replies, including yours! Lovely indeed! Thank you! π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, @gi_gi_ this is all so neat! It’s really cool to see that the scales all connect–and really cool to know that you can take the same shapes and move them up two frets to transpose. I know a bit about scales and intervals from playing piano, but my struggle has been understanding how those scales are laid out on the uke. But it really just seems to be a matter of learning the scales and seeing the patterns like you illustrated.
Another goal I have for this coming year is to finish a good chunk, if not all, of the courses on here. I keep getting distracted (…by myself mostly). π π
Also, I found both your posts funny in the live lesson thread but forgot to react there, then I felt too awkward to react later–but now I am. I’m neurotic… ππ
Anyway, thank you so much for filming that, @surferjay! ππ
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, so, to say a bit more, I actually did get as far as learning the first pattern of the C major scale that you just filmed, but like @gi_gi_ , I am intrigued to know the five patterns and how they connect. It looks like that might be covered in the theory course on here which is good but I’m just curious what it would look like if you played all five patterns together straight through.
Oh, and the singing for me is questionable. It’s not going to be like when @robinboyd burst out of nowhere with his golden Phantom voice. π I may try a few things that way, but I wanted to add in some percussion through the mic and try using my acoustic ukes with the looper through the mic. It may take some doing to figure that out (for me) since clearly I’m a tech genius, ππ and not sure if it will work, but I want to try it!
Thank you for your well thought out posts and for posting videos in these discussions. Much appreciated, friend! π

The_Bumble_BardParticipantI hoped this would be the topic this month, so I tried to give this a good, solid think.
My 3 (main) uke goals for 2023:
1. Strummin’. Learn to strum better than a poorly trained capuchin monkey.
2. Play uke in front of others more often, and in other places besides my chamber of solitude and secret melodies.
3. Create a chord melody that can be classified as “neat.”
Also… Start a blog, so that all ‘this’ wayward energy can go there. ππ
Thank you so much for a crazy fun and enlightening year! Gaaaaaaeeeel! Oh sorry wrong page …
