The_Bumble_BardParticipant@Andrew, oh, sorry. I think I misunderstood the video because I thought it said you could add to that one or extend it, so it’s the same chords / notes as Etude No. 3 but played in a clawhammer style. I changed too much. Oops. I’m embarrassed, man. I’ll redo it, sorry. π³ Thank you, Andrew! πΆππ

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@jbmills07, hehe, despite being antsy, she seems like an above average well behaved lady! Good “shoulder kitty”! π
…
For this challenge, I tried to clawrhammer Etude No. 3. Not sure how successful it was, but here ’tis! π
The_Bumble_BardParticipantThat was so amazingly beautiful! Really, really well done, thank you for sharing, @janaq1! π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, hahaha, the overly long pointy nail, that’s quite an image! π I also tried to grow out my thumb nail longer than usual for the tremolo, but because of the shape of my thumb it didn’t help much either. So, I switched to my index finger.
Oh that’s very interesting about Taimane and her acrylic nails! I need to look into that ASAP. I like having nice, fancy nails, man! But I need to get a different job because my job, as “an industrial antique cleaner,” stains my nails too much, so I also need a different job. I have a lot to do this year–including starting that blog. ππ
Same. I love these live lessons; they’re kind of like the ukulele club meeting I always wanted, and so much appreciation to Andrew and Matt for putting these together and wading through all the verbose tomfoolery. I. I think that’s partly my fault. Just partly. π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@robinboyd, hahaha, well, not literally a marshmallow. Just a protective suit that makes me look like a marshmallow or a CSI or an Oompa Loompa, depending on who(m) you ask.
π Sorry.
It seems like with many creative ventures nail length / integrity is a factor. Pottery is one for sure. Even with drawing, longer nails get in the way or just get stained with material. Although with ukulele, I noticed that Taimane Gardner actually had nice manicured nails in one of her concerts, so maybe all hope isn’t lost.

The_Bumble_BardParticipantThings I never thought I’d say: I’ll wait to cut my nails again until I hear the advice of a ukulele gentleman on the internet. π
This should be pretty interesting indeed!
The main “nail issue” I’ve had with ukulele is with the tremolo technique. It isn’t just the nail length, but if the nail “bypasses the finger” which mine doesn’t enough on my thumb; it creates that harmonic sound. Maybe I still don’t have the hand angle right or something though?
Sigh, I used to have such nice nails before I started playing ukulele and working in a wealthy baron’s basement dressed as a marshmallow…
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_ awwww thank you so much! ππ₯Ίπ That’s so lovely of you to say. I’m just so happy that I did end up joining this site and meeting you guys and all the lovely people here–and the instructors here who also have inspired and genuinely affected me so much, especially Andrew and Matt but the genius of the other instructors is pretty clear too.
I didn’t even know the difference between a high G and low G before I started here or what a hammer on / pull off was, π and it’s still so exciting to learn new things on uke and keep improving those things. ππ
I so look forward to continuing to share with you guys and keep mutually encouraging each other. That’s seriously meant more to me than I can say. We’re going to make some crazy loops this year! ππ

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@deadbuggy, that was so lovely! I also wanted to learn the banjo but couldn’t afford one. I could get one now, but who needs that when you have a ukulele that can be a banjo if it pleases? ππ That said, I also have a banjolele……..
@jbmills07, Andrew already said but it’s clear that Ziggy loved your performance! That’s so cute. Lovelily (not a word) played indeed!Like @leb397, I also plan on playing Etude No. 3 because of my shaky confidence in being able to play Etude No. 16, or the other two. π³
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, thank you so much for that! I love classical music so much and the uke is so perfectly suited for playing it– unassuming, quirky, and cute as the uke appears. I felt so inspired seeing some of the classical arrangements from this site, “big” classical songs played on the little uke. It sort of expanded what I thought was possible to play. Otherwise I probably never would’ve considered trying to arrange this one. Even though it doesn’t remotely compare to the crazy good arrangements of RC101, I’m still pretty proud of it for my current knowledge/ability. This is more than I ever would’ve/could’ve done before joining here.
Hehe, breaks are good. I’m sorry you had a bad cold. That seems to be a trend lately. Babysitting I consider borderline impossible but I have done it and everyone survived so that’s a success. π Glad that you’re back! Happy playing to you! π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, ha, that’s what I thought. Crazy young Biebs. π I feel like that’s one of the best ways to improvise, to start with something complete and modify it. It was quite lovely. Yes, like gi_gi_ said, so relaxing and so cool. ππ π
@gi_gi_ that’s pretty crazy! I feel like once you’ve gotten so into playing uke you start feeling weird if you don’t play every day. At least that’s how I feel now. For me it’s such an anxiety-reducing thing and an escape that I try to play every day. Anyway I’m glad you’ll get to play again today! πAnd Happy New Year to you both! I am going to indulge in a special drink tonight, maybe even two, so that I can feel terrible tomorrow. ππ Just kidding it’s fine, kinda. π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_ thank you so much!! I really appreciate that, so much that I want to cry. π I feel like I owe so much to the people here, for the encouragement and everything I’ve learned here; something like this would not have been possible for me before I joined here, to figure out a “complete” arrangement like this. Hopefully this weekend I can post an updated version and see if I can fix the sound issues too. But yes, thank you so much! π₯°ππ
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@surferjay, so dang good, man! Is that the Justin Bieber song, or am I confused? If so you actually made it sound good. π I shan’t have time to loop again myself before the year is out! But next year for sure! Thank you for sharing and Happy New Year!! π
Oh @gi_gi_ I don’t know if I said but I also loved your take on Chopsticks. That is a song that I find truly beautiful and ya nailed it. π

The_Bumble_Bard.
The_Bumble_BardParticipantLiterally the exact worst place possible. I’m so sorry. π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@robinboyd, eesh, that’s the worst. That’s probably one of the worst places you could break a bone is on your hand. I hope it heals faster than you expect.
Ha, oh yeah, how could I forget “jumper”? Haha it’s good to know that distinction. π Another Britishism I enjoy is “torch” which of course Americans call a “flashlight.” It just seems like maybe the British didn’t update that term since medieval times, “enh, same essential function.” π π
The_Bumble_BardParticipantThank you SO much for that, Jay! It means a lot that you say that because I’m pretty much constantly plagued by self-doubt, especially about my own little projects. I’m trying to work on that though. But yes, thank you! π
Oh my, yes, I agree with that so much! Musical time machine indeed. π For me, knowing about Beethoven’s life and the many sorrows and travails he endured affects how I play his music, because you can just feel the heartache behind the notes; it really seemed that he poured all his grief into his compositions–to create something so beautiful and moving that is still poignant and real to this day. ……….I have feelings about Beethoven. π ππ³ But yes, this is one of my favorite songs of his.
I already have multiple things I will change about this arrangement. Most of the notes I’m happy with but I have to change the position some of them are played because they are unnecessarily awkward to play. Trying to go for efficiency.
Hahaha oh thank you! π I always forget that “cardigan” means “sweater” in British, for British is a separate language. Just as “waistcoat” in British is “vest” in American. I think that’s right. Anyway thank you again!! πβ€οΈπ
