I agree that changing strings is an easy way to find different tones on your ukuleles.

I’ve been playing custom low tension fluorocarbons from Uke Logic for over a year now.
I used to play the Aquila AG x AQ (Aldrine Guerrero’s Aquila strings).

Definitely noticed the difference in tone and feel on my Kanile’a tenors. I’m feeling the difference in tone even with the slightest change in attack which is critical in performance.

Also, strings need to be changed consistently to maintain quality tone based off of how often you’re playing and practicing. I change my strings on my main 2 Kanile’a ukes every 4-6 weeks.

Good luck and happy tone hunting!

The link above is my cover of Jack’s Seasick Dream.

I learned the song by ear. Hope this helps a bit.

    Aloha Kayleighb,

I’m leaning towards the one with the geared tuners!

Both look great, I just prefer geared tuners over friction tuners from past experiences.

Can’t wait to see what you end up with!

    Aloha Ke Akua

The color of the strings are like a translucent mint green. The description by Kala as coke bottle green is pretty accurate. I blame the lighting for the whitish color and from further away they look clear.

They are my favorite strings now because I prefer the tension of these AG x AQ’s over the super nylguts, lava series, and red series sets. Tone is also brighter in my opinion without sacrificing balanced range.

I just took these pictures to show the AG x AQ up close.

    Aloha Daniel,

I’ve been a fan of Aquila as a brand and have been using their strings on my ukulele for some time.

Played new nylgut, super nylgut, red series, lava series and loved the tones from them. I usually have a low g tenor and a standard high g re-entrant tenor to go back and forth from but from the pictures I uploaded you can see I recently put the Aquila AG x AQ strings on my Kala ASAC-T which replaced the red unwound low g w/ super nylgut.

I loved the tone from the AG x AQ strings on my Kala elite Koa 1 so much I had to try them on my ASAC-T. Now I know tone and feel are all personal preference, but for me the difference in response in my attack and brightness in tone was incredible and enough for me to have them on both my solid body tenors.

I still have the super nylgut strings on my electric tenor. They also may get swapped out in the near future for the AG x AQ set.

Anyway, just my 2 copper since I’ve been playing with these exact strings lately.

    Aloha and mahalo!

    Aloha Andrew,

Mahalo for the kind words. All of Hawaii is magical but Oahu is home and has a special place in my heart. You’ll need to go back. Maybe grab a Kanile’a tenor while you’re there lol.

I was working on Fur Elise which was one of my piano pieces long ago. Moonlight Sonata was also one of my pieces I had played and would love to have your arrangement for ukulele. Fur Elise came quite fast. I have to credit your excellent and concise instruction for my speedy progress for the piece. I was also working on Allegro for getting my finger picking back up to speed.

My guilty pleasure piece that I find myself playing and working on to master is your arrangement for a Thousand Years. Not a classical piece, but the flow, movement, and melody is undeniably infectious. Amazing job with a Thousand Years.

I’ve always been a fan of legendary fingerpickers like Mark Knopfler. If there’s a special request for a piece I’d like you to create an ukulele arrangement for it would be Local Hero. One of my all time favorites.

Anyway, huge mahalos for the incredible lessons here. 🙌🏽

    Aloha from So Cal,

    Aloha everyone!

    Here’s a few pics of my 3 Tenors(Not Pavarotti, Carreras, Domingo).😂😂😂

Kala solid acacia tenor (ASAC-T)w/ low G Aquila red and super nylgut strings

Kala elite series solid Koa 1 tenor w/ Aquila AG x AQ strings(love the mint green)

Sojing Ukll-ax1 Silent electric tenor w/ Aquila super nylgut.

Fusion double tenor ukulele bag. (Best bag I’ve ever owned.)

Had all of them set up at my local shop here except the elite(it was perfectly set up coming from the craftsmen in Petaluma)🙌🏽. Love having a low g tenor and std re-entrant tenor to play with. The cheap silent tenor ukulele was crucial in saving my relationship with my gf 😂😭😩. I drive her batty apparently…

Have a couple of cheap concert ukes not worth mentioning and a Taylor 6 string guitar.

    Aloha Taimane,

First and foremost, huge mahalos for the music you share with the world!

I believe my question is music related with a twist. Here it goes…

If you could surf as good as you play ukulele,
would you rather be a pro surfer or stay a professional musician or both? 😎😇.

    Cheeeeeeehuuuuuuu!! 🙌🏽💯
