henri0ParticipantWow! Just found this intro to the new instructor digging around in prep for learning St Anne’s Reel. Stoked to hear a positive story of someone finding a new/better job, particularly with how the arts scene tanking in many ways atm. Looking forward to (and slightly anxious about!) getting more to grips with the triplet strum…and any other challenging techniques you all have to share :]
Congrats and welcome as instructor @sgwarren

henri0ParticipantMelodic etude below.
Trying to do less takes before submitting…but think I’ve got the feel right 🤞 also need to watch the video lesson still 😬
Determined to get St Anne’s Reel in later this month, but it’s looking hectic busy for me atm, so will leave for now with…

henri0Participant@miztaken get where you’re coming from. I was trying triplet strums for Christopher Davis-Shannon’s spin on Smile. And watched his triplet lesson too. I kind of took what I could from it and have tried it out when Ive felt like it.
For this one I’m fairly determined to learn At Anne’s Reel and did a double take that there’s a 40 minute lesson for the first two bars 😅 but I get it now, there’s a lot going on here. Imagine how much better our playing will be by learning this slowly. I’ve gotten into the swing of it after about an hour of practising and also applying it to one of the songs I like to play most…Sloop John B…that’s helping me… immediately applying it to something familiar.
But yeah, this will take a chunk of hours/days for me to get to a stage where I’ll feel happy submitting something.

henri0Participant‘Autumn Sun Mourn’ take 3 – original attempt for this month.
Thought I’d uploaded earlier – tried to edit – and maybe deleted…
So just in case, I link again. Didn’t get the time I wanted to hone this early month messing around in the fading summer sun, but wanted to submit something

henri0ParticipantOh yeah! And I AM A PREMIUM MEMBER
which gives me an excuse to share my genuine favourite version I *nearly* nailed until some clearly Kermit/frog inspired sabotage occurred 😀

henri0ParticipantAnother Rainbow Connection :] To my ears there can never be enough rainbow connection!
Having so much fun learning this one. And it’s a lot more complex to master I think, than instantly memorise/play through.
Have struggled to stick to my own deadline for submitting! Finally done so as have sadly lost my nail on my ring finger – the angle I have to use to get the strong ring I want out if it is a bit too far of a stretch to maintain for the full song…but it will grow back. So a work in progress, but think this is a reasonably fair representation of where I’m at, except this version I use very little thumb…have attempted more in other variations.

henri0Participant@b_ukes_101 I saw it! Well done and really well played. I realise my issue is the opposite…barely using thumb at all 🤦
I’ve also had a lightbulb moment today from watching everyone else on video: that I’m being too heavy handed…having made some adjustments it’s instantly improved things. Can’t wait to get into this challenge now with these delicate tunes that will benefit from a lighter touch 🤞

henri0Participant@b_ukes_101 i’ve been checking out some of the July uploads today, specifically for freight train versions! Did you manage to get past the thumb playing focus?!

henri0ParticipantMy first submission to the monthly challenge! A slightly too fast freight train, perhaps 😅
Think it’s a fair representation of where I’m at with this one. To my ear I have better versions on audio where I don’t have so many mutes (the one post slide in bar 6 grates a bit as does the imperfection at end of the lovely descent in bar 15!) but enjoying combatting video performance jitters!
Thanks for the tutorial Andrew and everyone for their versions here, have learnt a lot. It’s a big step up in my playing, for sure and well worth being a PREMIUM MEMBER for. 😀
