Loved this piece when I heard it but broke my first low G string attempt for Sleep Walk and then went travelling sans ukulele…but in my travels picked up a second hand cheapie strung with low G to my happy surprise. Can now learn a whole bunch of arrangements on here I’ve been putting on hold! For now…

    Summertime

Bucking my usual trend of practising right til the last minute to the point of missing the deadline on occasion. This is my first recording. I’ll be interested to see how much I can improve by end of month and if I can get Wipe Out done also as that outro lick is killer.

Summertime really is infectious, tho…looking forward to finessing and getting rid of hesitations/errors

Ain’t talking bout love. Frustrating fun!

    Thanks for solo feedback @Andrew.

Got the speed I think, but slipping a bit on the accuracy. I continue practising *both* playing and recording for the elusive “perfect take” 😅

Nearly there with Ain’t Talkin bout love EXCEPT the solo which is driving me (and probably everyone around me) crazy by now. My tech set up means the tab play along is often really out of sync or won’t work so want to check I’m on the right track here and open to critique/suggestions so I can get it right at speed. TIA

That sounds excellent. Really punchy and catchy uke playing. Making me want to learn new techniques!

Your daughter’s vocals were a wonderful accompaniment. Thanks for sharing and will look out for any future collabs!

    Tiptoe Through the Tulips.

This is surprisingly fun to bash out or play very softly. Needs some work, as ever, but happy to submit and start working on a second for the month.

Good call. Uke targets for the year:

    1. Continue with monthly challenge submission on rc101 (and ideally learn one additional piece a month)
    2. Expand into the courses/concept lessons
    3. Play with others whether by zoom or in person, when that becomes appropriate
    4. Buy an upgrade concert ukulele
    5. Learn the fretboard, scales and more chords (by name)
    6. Perform live whether that be informally, a busk or open mic night

Specific songs I want to learn:

Careless Whisper – when I first came across this site, I said it would probably take me 6 months before attempting it – nearly at 6 months now.
Songs I’ve done a fair amount of practice on but not completed: Smile, Wouldn’t it be Nice, Fingerpicking Etude 23, 12th Street Rag, Uke Blues 2, Birthday, Under the Bridge, I’ll Be Seeing You, Autumn Leaves, Carol of the Bells, Helen’s Theme, Out in the North (need Low G for last three)
I Just Called to Say I love You – need to learn this from a video performance
    BodySurfing

I’ll leave it at that and be intrigued to revisit next year!

Been loving learning this. Want to move on to Carol of the Bells soon. So much good choice this month.

Know the C section especially needs work. My problem is my decent uke is a soprano and a few of those 13th fret notes sound pretty damp on it…my concert has a pretty high action… nonetheless, it’s mainly a practice issue…if I play any later tonight (gone midnight here) I’m probably being anti social 😅

    Merry Xmas all.

    I’d second:

    – Female teacher(s)! Always going to welcome more teachers full stop, but particularly who reflect the diversity of the community here and beyond.
    – Forum upgrade – would like to be able to thumbs up people’s monthly challenges in particular – I think getting direct positive feedback that doesn’t have to lead to extended discussions would be neat.

I’m not so wild on the vocal accompaniment part right now – but appreciate for those people who aren’t painfully bad singers, this would be a draw. And perhaps post-covid restrictions it would be useful for me to draw singing friends along.

Breaking down complex (sounding) ukulele techniques is something I’m keen on, but like @smokealot says, I’ve yet to really dig into the existing content – been here since July and mainly been learning monthly challenge songs. Oh yeah, speaking of the above comment on the intro-earworm, you missed the “Hi *guys*” bit 😀

Loving the class and surprised I’ve stuck to learning consistently for the last five months. Those challenges really work. Hope all the team here have a decent break from work over xmas and looking forward to what you’ve got for us in the new year. Over and out!

Toss a Coin to Your Witcher.

Really struggled with bars 23-25 for some reason, so wouldn’t be surprised if my timing off! And gutted about that last harmonic fail, but think this is the one I’m going with so as not to be playing too last minute. My learning point is, if I haven’t heard a song before…listen to it much more before learning it to avoid teaching myself errors! But love love this arrangement, many thanks and happy November challenge all!

Wanted to flag Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain here, especially their lockdown series – they are hugely entertaining and able to make me laugh and cry with their performances – think that’s a rare skill

Neat lesson. A couple of things I do to build confidence to perform:

    1. Play in public places like the park, beach or even town centres…not formally busking, just playing where ppl might be around. Busking also helps too!
    2. Playing when with friends as they are chatting away

Altho I disagree that you have to look happy and like it’s fun for performing. Nothing wrong with making an audience uncomfortable 😅 it’s not all about them. I dig watching all sorts of different performers from extroverted to painfully shy…it takes all sorts
