henri0ParticipantWeek 2 of finishing off themes I started and dropped: Theme from M*A*S*H. Absolutely love this song and this arrangement, so beautiful and sad as a piece.
Loving watching everyone making creative efforts with this challenge – will push myself to do something a bit more out there for one of the next free for alls. Loved the kalimba piece in particular- in part because I an very keen to buy one. Also really enjoying the progress with your technique @malku2603 – first time I have come across it.

henri0ParticipantExecution: will be finishing off RC101 pieces I started and then never got around to completing for one reason or another.
Application: practising 4x songs – one per week – all tv/film themes
Evaluation: record and upload by the end of the week
First choice: Frolic. Used to love Curb your Enthusiasm so went straight to learn this when Rc101 released their version – just never got round to recording/finalising it. So a little bit of it to re-learn and a few tech glitches later and here it is (well currently taking forever on the copyright check section uploading on youtube – regretting the way I have entitled it now!):
(hopefully this link will go live soon – the checks are taking forever today for some reason!)

Black Hole Sun this month! Love this arrangement, had so much fun picking it up now and again since it was released here. Now have the motivation to learn it in full – needs a bit of polishing and tightening – but probably won’t have more time before 31st July to record.
Great to see RC101 reach the milestone of 100 challenges – really improved my playing to have these goals – and looking forward to being part of future ones.

Second time I have picked this song for a monthly challenge – still absolutely love it – wanted to keep recording to get a best version so far – but not possible tonight. Will have to submit earlier next month if there is more free time!

Bit of a busy month this May and really wanted to focus in on Matt’s Black Hole Sun arrangement, so picked the one I could memorise the quickest from this list! It is a great deal of fun to play, but would like to return to Contemplations when I have more time and the Star Wars theme, if I ever get hold of a U bass!

12 Bar Jazz Blues EP009
When I started recording tonight the sun was just going down and I was more visible – but it became darker a lot quicker – going for that jazz club vibe is my cover story! Really enjoyed this one – love that solo and pushing out of the comfort zone with the backing track – took some working to get that timing right – and still a good few things to polish

henri0ParticipantRunning a bit behind schedule on this one.
I have my 2025 version of Freight Train below. I haven’t yet been back to the lesson and tab, but that is my next step. If I have had a good enough practice, will try and get one last take up by 31st. If not, this one might have to do, based on memory. I’ve also spent most of the month replaying Magic Ukulele Waltz so in retrospect, I probably should have picked that!

henri0ParticipantFreight Train #2
Definitely in for the raffle this time!
Great challenge idea. I want to go back to the first RC101 challenge I submitted in July 2020…the timeless Freight Train. I still play this regularly and it is probably my favourite piece to play from this site. With Toss a Coin to Your Witcher and St James Infirmary a close second and third.
Goals:
1. Dont submit it last minute! (Altho that time round I’d only recently discovered the site)
2. Record one version of Freight Train without looking at the lesson to see how close my memory is nearly 5 years later and then record another after revisiting the lesson. I listen to my original recording and can recognise how many hours I put in learning/practising, so I may be more note perfect last time, but am hoping my playing ability/feel has come on after all these years.
3. Revisit one or two others, including those I’ve half learned (not going to tie myself to posting those here).

henri0ParticipantLong time since last posting – trying to get back into the habit of uploading – even if I’m not polished.
Absolutely love this waltz – and making me want to go back to Adrian Holovaty’s Aching Waltz as I’ve played it so many times, but yet failed to upload for a challenge.
No need to add me into this draw – currently trying to reduce the number of instruments I have!

henri0ParticipantFinal submission for Valse Venezolano. First time recording to back tracking and learning two parts.
Thanks for the feedback and tips on my first submission @Stephen.
I’ve had a few tech fumbles tonight (needed to give myself a whole week on this bit!) and settled on recording the lead uke to the backing track provided. I’ve started experimenting with video editing software, so know I’m a step closer and as this is the first time I’ve submitted to a backing track, I’m going to give myself low key applause for that!Great challenge…been interesting to see all the different takes on it.

henri0ParticipantDoing my first progress update. 1/2 at this rate.
Learning both parts of Valse Venezolano to full speed and challenging myself to get hold of the tech side by uploading two videos playing simultaneously.
So far so good on both pieces to speed and able to play along with both backing tracks relatively smoothly.
Still struggling with the recording side for various reasons. Aiming to get in by end of month 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
And a one take practice video for proof of progress…
Enjoying and frustrating this month ha!

henri0ParticipantGreat challenge!
1. Execution.
I will be working on performing to a backing track. I never submit these for challenges due to technological deficits and because its harder technically to keep the timing tight. So both a recording and playing challenge here.
I’d say I’m intermediate playing wise, with my strength lying in memory and mimicry rather than musical knowledge/creativity. So I will be hoping to use this starting point to jump into other goal based challenges to redress that balance a bit. Thinking beyond the month I’d like to look at courses (next level strumming) and concept lessons (the blues ones, as it always seems to be the bluesy songs I enjoy most)
I will practice every day for at least 15 mins (on track here) and will learn the pieces side by side.
2. Application.
I will learn Valse Venezolano No 2. I absolutely adored this piece when it was uploaded and listened to it repeatedly, but only learnt the first few bars. I will try to master the side by side video uploading too. I do not have a baritone uke, so will have to settle for guitar. If that’s going to throw it too much, let me know and I’ll stick to the backing track provided 🙂
3. Evaluation.
– Weekly videos of progress (for me).
– Playing to others for feedback
– Qualitatively, I will up tempo incrementally, aiming for 50% in week 1, 75% in week 2, 90% in week 3 and 100% in week 4. My downfall usually is starting too fast as I can’t properly *hear* the piece otherwise and then having to clean up sketchy parts after…or more realistically live with them.-

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
Hard to get in one, but the bits I’m choppy on here are a fair reflection of what I need to refine in general! But time to get last minute gifts here, so it may have to wait til the new year (if anyone will tolerate Xmas songs then 😅)

henri0ParticipantBeen a long time RC101! Life got busy, so whilst I usually start a piece these days, I don’t get chance to reach a stage where I’d be happy submitting it. But recovering from a virus atm has forced me to stay in and I have managed 2-3 days practice between sleeping.
