maryjanewParticipant@jbmills07 – dear Justin, my 💔heart breaks 💔for you. 😭😿 I’m so sorry for your loss but thankful you got to play that for her. I am pretty sure she heard you. When I got home from work today, I was ready to make a recording of my song and I saw your post but I knew I couldn’t watch it before I recorded my song- because I never would have got thru it. After I did my song, I went out to dinner with my family. I just now watched your video upon returning home. 😭 I love your heart man! May God hold Regina in his hands, relieve her pain. May God hold your heart 💔 as you grieve her.

Here is my entry, “Dream a Little Dream”, I did the best I could to memorize but it’s not perfect! But I did feel like I was playing music! I will continue to work on this and perform for a live open mic in February.-

maryjanewParticipanthere is my progress… 😬 I have a few more days!!!
BTW- I’m working on a new arrangement, memorizing 3 string chords and lyrics. my goal is to play the full arrangement with intro and outro riff. I’m NOT there yet but there is hope for Friday!
There is a solo section but I may just play chord arpeggios in that section or just skip it. I am no where near close to learning the solo part.January 16, 2025 at 1:12 am in reply to: Participate in the January 2025 Member Challenge – You Decide What To Work On! #65215
maryjanewParticipantHappy New Year!
BTW- it’s still the 15th in California 😜1) Execution – last week, I just started learning/working on an arraignment of “Dream A Little Dream” taught by Perry Stauffer of Starlight Ukes. This arraignment uses 3 string chords which makes these Jazz chords a bit easier to tackle. I have tried to learn this tune a few years ago but couldn’t master it. Since then, I have identified some issues that have kept me from retaining what I am trying to learn. 1). Memory. 2) short amount of time to play the Uke. I believe my playing/musicianship ability is halted at Beginning/Intermediate and I’d like to improve that. My goal is to memorize the chords, song progression/arraignment and the lyrics. My goals are to play and sing the song by the end of the month without relying on the lead sheet. Later I want to be able to play the whole arraignment with the intro, outro and lead/solo part included.
2) Application – I will set aside time at least 5 days a week to memorize the chords and arraignment first, then the lyrics. I will start with 4 measures at a time. Learning lyrics, I will go verse by verse and use key words in each verse to remember which words come next.
3) Evaluation – I will evaluate myself week by week. I will test myself by doing some “practice” recordings. I don’t know if I will post progress videos along the way, but I will definitely post by the end of the month showing my progress.
Cheers

maryjanewParticipantCongrats to Justin. @Andrew hey the screen recording of all the names entered seemed short and I didn’t see my name scroll by… just wondering if it had all the entries from spring and Fall? I didn’t enter all the the months but got in on a few… just making sure… 😜
Merry Christmas. BTW I am home now but my brain is in a time warp from the date/time ✈️differences!!! 😩

I am in the South Pacific Ocean and got mixed up with due date. I’m sorry I couldn’t get this in on time. I enjoyed learning it so I am posting it anyway. When I recorded this I was on time but I didn’t get it posted. I donate every year to to UKC as I stated at the beginning of the month.
Merry Christmas-

maryjanewParticipant@Andrew — this is NOT my entry, just practice.
I wanted try this song on the Baritone with the Tenor Octave strings. It will sound very pretty on this instrument but I’ll have to do my official entry on a concert uke.

maryjanewParticipant@andrew -awesome! That’s what I thought. BTW I have a recurring donation set in the middle of December for UKC! $50. I love that organization! I’m leaving on my cruise on 12/5 so I will try to post from the ship when in Australia.
The sounds great on the baritone, I’m taking my koaloha Opio concert uke on the trip.-

maryjanewParticipant@marianne – beautiful performance!
Great way to start off the challenge
With this entry! You’ve obviously learned this song before, or you may just be that good to learn it in a couple days! 🥰 This is my song choice as well but I will be traveling and I wanted to bring a low G Uke along. Matt’s arrangement is in high G. It looks like you did a low G version…. Correct? Or you are playing a baritone which is low D?
@andrew – it looks pretty simple to make the alterations, right???

Etude 33
Sorry, I really had no time to work
On this but it was fun to try and play!
I ran out of time to edit out the repeated sections, I ran the recording and didn’t stop but tried to take out sections.

I didn’t get to work on ukulele much this month and this song needs a lot more work, but alas,
time is up so you get what you get!

Notice my T-Shirt… all online Ukulele Teachers, see if you know them all.
I think they got together at NAMM a few years back (pre-pandemic) and made this t-shirt. -
