maryjanewParticipant@Andrew – thanks, yes I had more trouble memorizing the B section, but also some of the fingering up the neck. I was really giving my pinky a workout trying the techniques Steven demonstrated. I have arthritis in my left thumb but I am not giving up! When I was learning the A section, it was easy to memorize and I was much more relaxed playing it (maybe not in the video but when I was working on it), so I will keep working on the B part and the whole song, because I love it!

Ok, was recording several takes and somehow all my videos corrupted!
The program failed!
So I hurriedly recorded one more take to get it in just barely on time! Here my Spanish Romance.
I need more work but I really love this song and it was very challenging for me.
maryjanewParticipantWelcome Ashley 😍

maryjanewParticipantSpanish Romance is on my Sleep Playlist and I just love it! It is so romantic😜 and relaxing!
I’ve been wanting to learn this song for a while! I’m sure I will have to take it in small chunks, at a slow speed in order to memorize it.
It will be a challenge but well worth it for a song that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!February 27, 2021 at 3:12 am in reply to: Participate in the February 2021 Member Challenge – Theme: Mixed Bag! #45534
maryjanewParticipantI am enjoying watching all the entries this month. Good job!
The song choices were good in February but I was not able to participate this Month.
I was sick most of February, But I am better now so I will look forward to participating

I love what you did here! I just started learning Bass and I was thinking of doing this also. Yes, it is hard to synchronize multiple videos together! I don’t have the time!January 28, 2021 at 12:43 am in reply to: Participate in the January 2021 Member Challenge – Theme: Levels (Beg/Int/Adv) #44853

Here is my version of “Our First Song”.
The piece was easy and very fun. Easy enough
For me to memorize! 😝
I want to learn “Everlong” now, I love Foo-Fighters! Maybe a future lesson for “Times Like These…Learn to Live” is in order?? 😆-

I also donated $51.43 to Ukulele Kids Club!
I know, odd amount! Apparently, last year I signed up to give every year automatically and it must be the exact amount for one ukulele!
It is an Awesome organization! Love what they do!
Thanks again Andrew!

As always, I am a last minute video loader!
My version of Carol of the Bells still needs lots of work.
I am a slow learner!
I love this song though, and I really enjoyed Steven’s lesson and arrangement
Of the song. I will keep working on it.
Thanks,

I had a hard time with the syncopation and the bar D. But I feel I made a lot of progress but still a ways to go! I played the timing by ear because I know the melody but I get nervous when recording. So when I thought I had it memorized, I would forget and there are slight pauses getting back on track! I love this song though, takes me back to my childhood. I will share it with my grandchildren!

I totally agree! I LOVE the Golden Girls theme song 😍November 1, 2020 at 12:36 am in reply to: Participate in the October 2020 Member Challenge – WIN the Islands Kanile’a #41673
maryjanewParticipant.Ugh! Late again! I have been so busy this month with work and special projects that I started on this challenge very late.
I will keep workin on this song and technique. It is so hard!I wonder if I can ask for special dispensation for this entry to be counted??? It is Halloween and I spent the afternoon and evening with my grandkids then dinner with my hubby. AND a few Trick-or-Treaters at the door.
I am 30 minutes past the deadline. Please? 🙊🧟♀️🧙🏻♀️
Oh yeah, and I am in California so its only 9:30 and we get to turn our clocks back tonight so really its only 8:30, right?!? LoLAnyway, I need lots of work on this. It will be worth it but it’s a very difficult technique to learn.

July 24, 2020 at 8:23 pm in reply to: Participate in the July 2020 Member Challenge – Theme: Vintage Tunes! #39818
maryjanewParticipant@Andrew – Thanks! Yes, I know I have some hesitation in those spots. I’m continuing to play the tune from memory but I still have a few spots where I’m missing it. It’s a nice short tune which is great for me to work my bad “short” term memory! It is improving though. I know with repetition, I will get smoother at playing and maybe someday, be able to play Yankee Doodle up to speed. I’ll repost if I get there before the end of July!
I would have loved to try 12th Street Rag, but I don’t have a clue how to do that strumming!! I will go through Chris’s course on Strumming. He is awesome. I love to watch and listen to him play those old jazz tunes.July 22, 2020 at 6:54 am in reply to: Participate in the July 2020 Member Challenge – Theme: Vintage Tunes! #39775

I had plenty to learn from this “beginner” song! Yankee Doodle has helped me get better at: 1. memorizing music (still hard for me); 2. Double stops and various right hand techniques; 3. Rhythm & timing; (I’m not up to “speed” on the tempo yet)
4. Learn/practice harmonics and chord “tapping” which are both difficult.
I’m sure there is more… 🤩
My video has two parts- the first I play YD on my Koaloha Opio Concert Uke, and second on my Kala Tenor guitar (4 steel strings, tuned DGBE)
In the takes I chose, I did the harmonics better on the ukulele, and chord “tapping” came out better on the steel strings. I also did two simultaneous recordings- on iPad with mic, and iPhone. I added a little chorus and delay for fun. -Mary Jane -
