maryjanewParticipantHey Johnny,
the easiest thing to do without buying another Uke is to go buy a Low G STRING for your existing ukulele!
That is what I did when I only had one instrument. Now I have 3 low G and 1 high G ukuleles.
I’m looking to sell a Kala Tenor with a low G…. *hint* LOL

maryjanewParticipant@emiliano I posted at the 11th hour! But it was only the 8th hour on the west coast! I’m on page 21. I did Out In The North. I have a nicer Uke but I’m more of a beginner player

maryjanewParticipant@emiliano WoW! Very nice. I wonder how great that would sound on a premium grade Ukulele?
I have really enjoyed listening to evrybody’s submissions— but I’m not great at taking the time to make comments!
Too busy practicing my song because I suck! LOLMay 31, 2020 at 11:23 pm in reply to: Participate in the May 2020 Member Challenge – WIN a Kanile’a Tenor Ukulele! #38229

Down to the wire! But on time!
Here is my “work in progress” for “Out In The North”.
Thanks Tobias for this beautiful song. It has been fun to learn but I haven’t quite
Learned it all! IT is very challenging! I was working on memorizing the piece, but as you will hear, I have not accomplished that yet. I want to continue to master this song.
My fingers got a bit nervous and lost a few times.
But I kept plugging away slowly because there is no more time!
I will keep working on this one.Oh yeah, I wanted to say I was trying to get the hammer on and pull offs. The tip of my index finger is so sore!

maryjanewParticipantI’ve been working on memorizing my song and will record today. 😱🎼
maryjanewParticipantI have a little nail on my thumb but I’m getting more of a harmonic type sound on the up-stroke -ugh
maryjanewParticipantI can see and hear you in live video but the chat feature is not visible!!
maryjanewParticipantIn my profession – Physical Therapy and Massage therapy- I cannot grow my nails long. I have grown “tiny” nails on right hand, the longest I can have without getting in the way of my work. I have occasionally tried a thumb pick but it is too “aggressive” for my taste. Any other tips for people like me?
I am still a beginner (intermediate)
Thanks,
– Mary Jane-

Hey Andrew and staff,
I need help for playing in time to a backing track and for memorizing.
Sometimes my fingers do their own thing and don’t listen to my brain!! ;-pAlso, I’m torn between picking which piece I should tackle for the May challenge.
I love the original “In the North” But “Malaguena” is more melodically familiar, though I have never learned it. “Ain’t No Sunshine…” is so emotionally driven, love that song. I would NOT try and sing that one.
I guess this is over 10 years old but have you seen this guy do Ain”t No Sunshine?? (Mind Blown)

maryjanewParticipantHey Andrew,
do you only give feedback for the entries that were on time? What about late entries? I’m learning…

maryjanewParticipantHi Andrew, -I am a Premium Member-
Let me start out by saying, I know this is late now, so you’re probably not going to count this as an entry. But let me explain myself anyway! 😝 I was sifting through my attempts at recording Day-O (it never is as good when I hit the record button!) I was about ready to save the “best” attempt and delete all the other videos….. oops! I Deleted ALL of them. Sooo… I had to record aaagaain! So the time I would have need to upload to YouTube In time to post here, was gone! And lately, I’ve been having issues uploading to YouTube anyway. Soooo, long story even longer…. I decided to post anyway, even if I’m late. I really wanted to submit entries all 3 months this time around. I have been busy with many online ukulele lessons and song challenges from multiple sites and I didn’t give enough time to Rock class 101! I am going to do better with May and June! Day-O was fun and not too hard yet it was very tricky! I needed to put more time into it. I really have a problem playing with the back track and I can’t seem to memorize the music.

Andrew, I donated yesterday to the ukulele kids club. I did a $50 donation that is going to recur every year. It’s a great organization I’m happy to support them.
As for my video, and I’m finally getting it in on time compared to last month. I was up to the wee hours working on the video and then I had to go to work, so I’m getting it in now but as long as it’s before your East Coast time I’m good! I was more challenged by this song then I thought I would be. because I guess, when it comes to finger style, I am still a beginner. But I feel like I improved a lot working on this song.
Thanks for the great lessons Andrew!
Uke On!
