.Ugh! Late again! I have been so busy this month with work and special projects that I started on this challenge very late.
I will keep workin on this song and technique. It is so hard!I wonder if I can ask for special dispensation for this entry to be counted??? It is Halloween and I spent the afternoon and evening with my grandkids then dinner with my hubby. AND a few Trick-or-Treaters at the door.
I am 30 minutes past the deadline. Please? 🙊🧟‍♀️🧙🏻‍♀️
Oh yeah, and I am in California so its only 9:30 and we get to turn our clocks back tonight so really its only 8:30, right?!? LoL

Anyway, I need lots of work on this. It will be worth it but it’s a very difficult technique to learn.

Congrats @mac1984! I did not have time to work on any of the August challenge songs! we had a lot going on as a family. I hope to participate in the September challenge

@Andrew – Thanks! Yes, I know I have some hesitation in those spots. I’m continuing to play the tune from memory but I still have a few spots where I’m missing it. It’s a nice short tune which is great for me to work my bad “short” term memory! It is improving though. I know with repetition, I will get smoother at playing and maybe someday, be able to play Yankee Doodle up to speed. I’ll repost if I get there before the end of July!
I would have loved to try 12th Street Rag, but I don’t have a clue how to do that strumming!! I will go through Chris’s course on Strumming. He is awesome. I love to watch and listen to him play those old jazz tunes.

I had plenty to learn from this “beginner” song! Yankee Doodle has helped me get better at: 1. memorizing music (still hard for me); 2. Double stops and various right hand techniques; 3. Rhythm & timing; (I’m not up to “speed” on the tempo yet)
    4. Learn/practice harmonics and chord “tapping” which are both difficult.
    I’m sure there is more… 🤩
My video has two parts- the first I play YD on my Koaloha Opio Concert Uke, and second on my Kala Tenor guitar (4 steel strings, tuned DGBE)
In the takes I chose, I did the harmonics better on the ukulele, and chord “tapping” came out better on the steel strings. I also did two simultaneous recordings- on iPad with mic, and iPhone. I added a little chorus and delay for fun. -Mary Jane

@jinajupiter I don’t have a Mac computer but I have an iPhone and an iPad with iMovie. Do you think it’s possible to get it close to this with an iPad??? I wasn’t really following the part of his tutorial where he was saving each audio file….

Seriously, my entry is HORRIBLE! I need much more time on this song, although I am enjoying it.
I love the swing beat. I thought I was doing ok learning the different parts but when it came to putting it all together, YUCK! The time pressure to record today by the deadline is also nerve-wracking!
Sorry, you don’t have to listen to this entry! LOL

@andrew -Thanks for the feedback and tips for helping me. I have a very limited range with my pinky and it is NOT independent from the ring finger! But believe it or not, it is better than it used to be so I will keep working on it.
And I noticed the bending of the strings when I watched myself back! crazy. I don’t know why my fingers get so jittery under pressure! I will do the exercises for both of those issues.

All awesome songs but most are above my paygrade! lol, I will probably do “people Are Strange” but I also LOVE “Stairway to Heaven”. I started to learn a ukulele version of Stairway last year from Cynthia Lin which she did in 3 parts, but I never completed parts 2 & 3.

    Hey Johnny,
the easiest thing to do without buying another Uke is to go buy a Low G STRING for your existing ukulele!
That is what I did when I only had one instrument. Now I have 3 low G and 1 high G ukuleles.
I’m looking to sell a Kala Tenor with a low G…. *hint* LOL

@emiliano I posted at the 11th hour! But it was only the 8th hour on the west coast! I’m on page 21. I did Out In The North. I have a nicer Uke but I’m more of a beginner player

@emiliano WoW! Very nice. I wonder how great that would sound on a premium grade Ukulele?
I have really enjoyed listening to evrybody’s submissions— but I’m not great at taking the time to make comments!
Too busy practicing my song because I suck! LOL

Down to the wire! But on time!
Here is my “work in progress” for “Out In The North”.
Thanks Tobias for this beautiful song. It has been fun to learn but I haven’t quite
Learned it all! IT is very challenging! I was working on memorizing the piece, but as you will hear, I have not accomplished that yet. I want to continue to master this song.
My fingers got a bit nervous and lost a few times.
But I kept plugging away slowly because there is no more time!
I will keep working on this one.

Oh yeah, I wanted to say I was trying to get the hammer on and pull offs. The tip of my index finger is so sore!
