For this month’s challenge, I revisited “Dream A Little Dream of Me.” My goals were to improve chord transitions and speed.

Usually, I post one take, but I could not get through this without sobbing, so I had to splice together two different recordings. My dog Verity, who often appeared on my recordings for the challenges, died last night. I thought about skipping this month but was reminded how much she loved the ukulele. Verity did not care if I played a wrong note or was off on the timing; it was all beautiful to her ears. When she was stressed out by noise, I played for her, which seemed to calm her. She liked to place her head against my thigh, with the butt of the uke almost resting on her head. Maybe the Island vibes were the strongest there.

Bonus Video: I played the slowest version of Sponge Bob Square Pants this morning as a warm-up. It is the last song I played for her. The visuals are from a challenge we did last year. I love how she comes in to see what’s up and then settles in for the show.

As usual, a great challenge! I plan to revisit Dream a Little Dream. My goals are to work on chord transitions and increase my speed as I tend to play at snail’s pace. 🙂

Oops, in my haste to record and post before the deadline, I didn’t realize that my music stand blocked the view of my hands. Without further ado, here is (perhaps) the slowest version of “O Come, All Ye Faithful!”

Happy Holidays, everyone! I wish you and yours all the very best for the coming year.

@lynnzo, I loved seeing your doggo in your video! They look so peaceful, being beautifully serenaded by you.

Etude no. 13, with a small liberty taken in bar 11. 🙂

I decided to give Yellow Submarine a go after my husband shared John Lennon’s demo for the song with me. Despite having the sheet music in front of me, I got lost a few times! But it’s the only take with Verity lending support. 🙂

Here is my entry for “Dream a Little Dream of Me.” Still struggling with bar chords, but as others have stated, it is the end of the month! Thanks again for another great challenge.

    1) Execution – I am a beginner on the cusp of becoming an intermediate player. 🙂 My goals this month are to work on transitioning between chords, strengthening bar chords, and continuing to address my performance anxiety. I plan to 1) practice for at least 30 minutes every day since I missed the first part of the month due to travel, 2) apply @Andrew’s advice from last month’s challenge concerning hesitation, and 3) continue to reframe the recordings for the challenge as a master class and try very hard not to think of it as performance.

    2) Application – I wanted to be able to play Norwegian Wood for this challenge, but the stretch chords are just too much for my short fingers right now. Since I am wrapping up the Beginners Course, I settled on Fingerpicking & Strumming: Final Song from Module 6, Unit 3. This piece has a bar chord I have struggled with, partial bar chords, and the transition between fingerpicking and strumming is another area I need to work on.

    3) Evaluation – Every few days, I will record myself and watch the video. I will try to be kind to myself when evaluating my progress. The final recording will be posted in this forum.

This month, I decided to stretch out of my comfort zone and try an intermediate-level song. I still struggle with bar chords, but I enjoyed learning this song. Thanks to Matt for another great lesson, my fellow Rock Class 101 community members for their inspiring performances, and Andrew for organizing everything.

Happy Holidays! Wishing everyone the very best for the coming year.

This month I decided to try the advanced beginner option of Path of the Wind. I am accompanied by Verity who plays little-known instruments such as water dish and spoons in food dish. Sorry for not having the time to isolate and remove the background noise. I wanted to continue to practice slides and pull-offs so I’ve also been working on the Avatar piece. But it is nowhere near ready to share with the world.

As always, thank you to Andrew and Matt and the wonderful Rock Class 101 community for providing inspiration and motivation.

Still thinking of myself as a beginner so I went with Fingerpicking Edude no. 25 “Morning Dew”. Those hammer-ons are indeed a challenge!

Everyone’s entries are a great source of inspiration and motivation to keep on strumming and plucking away. Thank you Andrew and everyone in this wonderful community.

    Hello from soggy Brooklyn!

Thank you Andrew for another great challenge. I started the month thinking: No way I’m gonna be able to play that! And then, at the end of the month, in huge part to the great tips from you on this forum and wonderful instruction by Matt, I end the month thinking: Well, that turned out better than expected!

I’m looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us next month.

    Be well, Jen

Edit: forgot to mention that this is the Double Stop || Mini Lesson: 013 at 80%.

At the beginning of the month, I didn’t think I’d be able to play either of the beginner songs by the deadline. But, after watching the fantastic lesson and lots and lots of practice I went from not being able to play bar chords at all to getting them to sound right about 75% of the time. Looking forward to the next challenge.
