robinboydParticipantHi @b_ukes_101. I have 2 pineapples, 1 boat paddle, 2 regular-shape ukes, and a guitalele – In other words, too many. I need to get rid of some.
Anyway, there is a slight difference in sound between pineapples and regular ukes, but it’s not a huge difference. You get a much bigger difference from different woods or different manufacturers, etc. They are also slightly harder to hold because there is less space at the bottom to hold it against your body. The main reason for getting one would just be because you like the look of it.
robinboydParticipantThanks guys
robinboydParticipantThanks 🙂
robinboydParticipantThanks Rickey. Would you believe I had never even heard of a harmonic when I started RC101?
robinboydParticipantIt’s an amazing feeling. At the point we cut down the trees, we didn’t think we’d ever have enough money to get something made out of them. We got them milled and just hoped. When I found Kelly, I was so happy that we would be able to get something made out of those trees, even if it wasn’t perfect. As it is, it’s definitely not perfect (you will see I point out a few flaws halfway though the video), but I’m still very happy with it. I’m still amazed at how good the intonation is. It’s better than any of my other ukes!
robinboydParticipantYeah, I’m in Hobart. Obviously a very different climate from Brisbane. I’ve attached a photo of my hygrometer. It was just a few dollars off Ebay.
robinboydParticipantJust make sure you test the inside humidity before working out what to do. It can be quite different from the outside, especially if you have air conditioning.
Going by the fact you use the word “autumn” and you say you live in a subtropical climate, I’m going to guess Brisbane or southern QLD?
robinboydParticipantI have my good one in a hard case while the others are all hanging. Having said that, I have a hygrometer and a humidifier in the room in case the humidity drops too low, although that rarely happens. Right now the humidity is 47% and I haven’t used my humidifier for months.
robinboydParticipantYou’ve got a great contrast between the mellow Opio and the brash spruce-top. It’s nice to have a bit of variety.
robinboydParticipantThat looks amazing Jerry. Well done!

robinboydParticipant@nickyg – does this mean you are in Australia? So if one of us Aussies won, we’d get the prize really quickly?
robinboydParticipantThanks. And yours!
