In addition to what Andrew suggested, it could also be that you have high action and/or high string tension on your uke. Have you tried playing other ukes to see if they are any better?

That’s actually what I was in the process of doing (starting slow and speeding up with a focus on that section), but I just ran out of time.
@gi_gi_ – things are good. I started a new job last year, so I haven’t had a lot of time to devote to uke playing, but I’m trying to do what I can.

Actually, I do have a wheel and a kiln at home. I got the kiln ultra cheap on Facebook Marketplace. Before that, I used to take my work to a shop to get it fired.
