    That turned out beautifully!

    – It’s certainly not cheap but depending on how good you are, you will probably end up with an instrument for less than you would pay for a good custom or a K brand. Lyndalls is absolutely beautiful by the way. Then it’s just a matter of whether you can spend 2 weeks away from work. You would also need to factor in accommodation expenses and air fares if you were doing it away from home like Lyndall did. It would be much easier for me because Cary lives down the road, but I just can’t afford to take 2 weeks off work.

And on an instrument where I’m used to the fret spacing, too. Cary’s guitars were beautiful, but I definitely wasn’t used to them.

That’s awesome! Those harmonies are deceptively hard. Tiffany and I had a good crack at it, but we didn’t make it in the end.

The problem isn’t so much the mechanics of the transition but the difference in sound. It just sounds really odd jumping from A to C#m. One way to fix that is to play A as 6454, and I was playing around with variations on that theme, but it just makes everything easier if I transpose it.

It looks like we will be performing live after all. The performance will be at the pub down the road. I’d better not screw up because I know the owner.

The first practice was just re-writes. They had some issues. I put in a request to transpose the key from A to G. Then it’s just up to the singer. She isn’t sure if she can get low enough. Perhaps I could solve my issues with a capo. FWIW, my issues resolve around the jump from A to C#m being a bit jarring to to the ear.

INTJ-T here. I don’t think these tests are particularly revelatory, but they are a bit of fun, and I think the introversion/extroversion part is pretty accurate.

@recdog – by the way, I’m intrigued by the concept of thinking you are slightly introverted. I KNOW I am VERY introverted. Just out of interest, what does this test say? (https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test) These sorts of tests usually say I’m at least 95% introverted.

I can play 4441, 1402, and a whole bunch of other variations like 4447. It’s just a matter of deciding which one suits the song better. FWIW, I find 4441 easier than 1402.

    Thanks Jina.

I just found out that the competition is judged based on recorded submissions, not live performances, so that takes a bit of the pressure off.

    Thanks guys.

Playing in front of crowds is okay (I think). It’s being in crowds that freaks me out (I’m a little bit agoraphobic).

The thing that worries me about this is not so much performing in front of people, it’s disappointing my friend and the real musicians.

As for the RC101 skills, they are at the limit of my abilities and I don’t want to mess up. I’m planning to play well within myself, so I’ll probably just stick to strumming as much as possible.

As for the song, I just got it and there are a lot of E chords in there, but I think I can manage. I just need to decide which version of the chords I want to play.

Hi Anirbaf – Intonation is hard to tell without playing the actual instrument so you just have to judge by brand quality. Any good brand should have pretty good intonation.

As for loudness, if that is your only criterion, why not go for a resonator uke? The tone would be totally different to a standard uke, but it would definitely be loud. This is the one that immediately sprung to my mind.

I haven’t played this particular uke, but I have had the opportunity to play a few Pohaku ukes and I am a big fan.

Wow, that must have been trippy. You are very lucky to live so close to Uke Republic.

Oh, and that fingering for the 4475 chord (not using the pinky) is a good stretch. It’s just manageable, so I think it will help train my fingers.

@Andrew – Well, that would be pretty awesome! Let me guess, you’re going to do a version of the prize for the Moon challenge and offer a Skype lesson with Beethoven? Anyway, I’ve got the first few lines down and I’m about to get to the really tricky bits.

Good luck. It looks like we both have our work cut out for us this month.
