Well I finally got around to replacing the G string on my tenor and it sounds so much better. Now I can play Moon on it without wincing every time I play the G string up the fretboard.

Becky – I agree that it would be awesome. We probably won’t do it this month because I’ll have my hands full learning my part and Tiffany is hoping to post her own entry this month, but I think harmonizing would be the next step.

By the way, I have also tried and given up on Coin Operated Boy.

I just saw that it doesn’t have to be RC101-related. In that case, I’ve been working on a version of the Sound of Silence over the last few days. This is something that I looked at a few years ago, but I it put in the too hard basket. I just pulled it out of the basket, and I think I can manage it now.

Here is a link to what I’m learning from https://www.ukulele-tabs.com/uke-songs/simon-and-garfunkel/the-sound-of-silence-uke-tab-13449.html

I’d say I’m currently at an intermediate level. So far I’ve managed a few level 2 and 3 songs on the site, and I’ve been pretty happy with the results.

This challenge will set me up to play more of Katie’s songs as she posts them through the year. It combines a bit of finger picking with somewhat challenging vocals. I’m playing it in a different key to the original, and like Angels we Heave Heard on High, I’m singing it at the bottom of my register and using a capo to bring it into a semi-comfortable range.

I’m particularly struggling with the timing of the “still remains within the” line. I’ve actually changed one measure within that line because I feel that it is a bit repetitive, but the rest of that line is still a bit awkward.

Anyway, my goal is to be able to do the whole song in time, without slowing down, and without my thumb cramping. I’m already well on the way, so I’ll post an initial video soon.

Hey @biggoomba – This arrangement of Dueling Banjos is something that I have been meaning to learn for years, but it has always been a bit beyond me. I could probably do it if I set my mind to it now, though. Anyway, this is a really awesome arrangement, so it’s worth a try.

    Congrats Jakeypoo!

I don’t have any requests. I love the direction you have been heading, especially getting multiple teachers with different focuses. Keep up the good work!

By the way, I’m glad you understood my explanation. I just realised I should have played middle A for comparison but I was a bit tired last night.

Glad I could help. You are not the first person to have that problem.

Don’t get too frustrated if you don’t sound like you want to straight away. It took me ages before I could play anything that sounded even remotely musical. Good luck!

Hi Samash. Forgive me if I’m on the wrong track, but it sounds like your A string is tuned an octave low. If that’s the case, you will need to tighten it until it is right. It should sound higher than all your other strings.

I’ve included a video of me playing a low A and a high A. It should sound like the second note I play, not the first.

    Hi Cyberloh,

It’s good to see that it’s wound.

I am inclined to think that they are genuine and any inconsistencies in packaging are because, in spite of their seeming ubiquity, Aquila is actually a small family company run by a guy in Italy and they change the way they do things from time to time. If you’re at all unsure, I’d recommend sending them a query through their website (they have a “contact us” button). I’m sure Mimmo will help you out.

Hi Cyberloh – Do you have any reason to suspect that they are fake? I don’t really have any tips apart from contacting Mimmo at Aquila if you are unsure. Having said that, isn’t the 15U supposed to be a wound low G? Your set looks like a high g set.

@trentmellington – You will need to upload the video to Youtube rather than trying to attach it. When you have put it on Youtube, just copy and paste the link. You have a few hours left so don’t panic.
