robinboydParticipantHi @kayleighb. I’m sorry to hear that. That must be incredibly hard. We are wishing you all the best from over here.

robinboydParticipantOi!!!! Nah, fair call…
robinboydParticipantAnother place that I like to buy strings is Strings by Mail. Here is a link to the Red low G I was talking about.

robinboydParticipant@awiealissa – Nice harmonics!!!! I really love how everyone is personalising this arrangement.
robinboydParticipant@sprintingyogini – well done. I don’t really have a schedule for changing strings. I change them when they start sounding a bit dull, when the winding starts to come off the low G, when I decide the intonation is out, when I want to try something new, or just when I’m bored.
@lisadmh – try getting a single unwound Red low g. They don’t come in packs of 4, you have to buy them separately. Uke republic has them. They are the best for killing the boominess that I have found. Fremont Soloists are still a bit boomy, but I’ve managed to compensate for that with technique and I really like the clear tone.December 23, 2018 at 3:12 pm in reply to: Participate in the December 2018 Member Challenge – LAST CHANCE to Win Kanile’a! #21727
robinboydParticipant@rickeymike – I admit that I only half memorised the lyrics. They are sitting next to the camera and I refer to them from time to time. I memorised the uke part, though. I find that a whole lot easier than memorising lyrics.
As for the capo, it should work on the soprano but I’d only try it on the first few frets or you’ll run out of fretboard. We’ve used it successfully on Tiffany’s soprano. Anyway, what I did with Angels, is I tried to sing it but it was too high, so I tried to sing it an octave low but I really struggled to reach the low notes. In cases like that, just chuck the capo on the first or second fret and play as usual and it will bring the pitch up a bit so it’s just a tad more comfortable to sing.

robinboydParticipant@akshxd – You’ve just put me to shame. My stomach ache is a very poor excuse indeed!

Why do I always leave it to the last minute to record? I woke up this morning with a stomach ache and I haven’t been able to shake it, so you’ve got a very imperfect performance. There are a couple of points to note.
1. As a few people have already mentioned, singing and playing together is HARD. This one is particularly difficult because you really have to focus on the singing. If I sing without playing or play without singing, I’m a whole lot better.
2. The reason I close my eyes for the “glooooooooooooria” bits is not because I’m overcome with emotion, but because it gets rid of the temptation to look at the fretboard. If I look down at all while singing that bit, I run out of breath.
3. I’m really trying to relax my jaw when singing the “gloooooooria” bits, but I haven’t quite got there yet. I’m so stressed out about running out of breath that my jaw clamps up. Feeling sick doesn’t help.
4. I’m using a capo to bring this into a more comfortable range, but that quietens the uke a little bit.

robinboydParticipant@spencer_davisss – Copy the link from the browser. Paste it in the comment. It’s that simple. No need to worry about embedding, etc.
robinboydParticipantInteresting to hear about the GHS and Super Nylgut. I haven’t tried either. The low G strings I have tried are below.
New Nylgut – It sounded really loud and the winding started wearing off at the first fret within a few months.
Aquila Red – Not as boomy as the others, but I didn’t like the tone as much. Not bad, though.
PHD – Sounds great at the first few frets, but goes a bit sharp when playing up the fretboard.
Fremont Soloist – Love it.
robinboydParticipantI’m with rickeymike. I don’t have a resolution. I’ll just take it a day at a time and enjoy my playing.
My non-uke resolution is to get back below 70kg. It’s achievable, but it will take me a while.

robinboydParticipant@rickeymike – Nice ending! I love how we are all able to play with it and tweak it to how we like it.
I’m doing Angels (should have a recording done in the next day or so) and I’m using a capo to bring it into my vocal range. If you don’t have one, I totally recommend getting one. They are nifty.

robinboydParticipantWow, now you’ve got me thinking and playing with it. You could also do the last 2 bars like this, which is very similar to your ending…

robinboydParticipantI know what you mean. Tiffany has been playing that one this month, and she was been finishing on the 0007 version of C. Give it a go.
