Participant@TBB I’m loving the journey and playing the Uke has really come part of my life. A cup of tea on a morning and 30 minutes on a Uke always before I start my day 🙂 I wasn’t sure whether to write 2nd year completed or 3rd year started I actually confused myself which is why you likely got confused 🙂
@gi_gi_ 1.5 years is the good place. That’s where I felt I had made some progress. Let me know if you need any help with the Loop stuff. I’m still learning a lot myself but if you have any questions or get stuck on anything let me know 🙂p.s If you type into the song list ‘Sirius’ there is a loop cover that Andrew has done which is very cool 🙂

ParticipantOOOOOoooooo very nice 🙂 Really like it! Need to organise a space based on this.. Currently I have a happy chair and that’s it. Thanks for sharing. Hello/Welcome/Hello 🙂
surferjay
ParticipantWell that was exceptional! It won’t be long before he’s teaching us all 👏

Participant@sarahmusic thank you! It’s such a beautiful song and there is lots of scope to play around with it. I would love to be able to play this on the piano 🙂

ParticipantSorry to hear that, wish you a speedy recovery!
Theory is definitely easier to understand on a keyboard and then move to the Uke.
If you have some mobility in your left hand I would take the opportunity to learn scales.
I would start by doing the following:
Learn the C Major scale. There are 5 patterns that you link together so you can play the entire fretboard.
Once you’ve learnt this you’ve literally unlocked the fretboard as you can now…
1. Also play the pentatonic scale (you just remove 2 notes from the Major pattern.
2. You know how to play all modes (Spanish, jazz style scales). Just by using the same Major pattern but starting on a different note.
3. You can then learn variations of the Major scale such as Harmonic minor or blues scale by adding or removing a note or two.
You can then use all the patterns scales you’ve learned and move them up a fret which allows you to play in every key.
So in my opinion learn the Major scale and variations 🙂

Participant@tbb 😎 It’s really cool how that style of music translates to the Ukulele. I think theory is badly explained most of the time which makes it sound difficult. What could be interesting if there is an interest is that we could start a post for the ‘music theory course’ and then go through each of the modules as a group.. then everyone can ask lots of questions and we can post videos further explaining. By the end of it everyone will be jamming away 😂😂😂
The video stuff I have no idea. I just prop my phone up against the amp and press record 😂😂😂
@gi_gi thank you. I do love this song.
@robin_boyd My favourite song of all time 😍 I would also love to play some portishead on the Uke.

Participant@TBB – Thank you 😍 Here is the entire process. I used to create the drum beat as well on the Uke but I can’t bring myself to hit my new one 😂 I’m using the loopers inbuilt drum beat the rest of it is all on the Uke.

ParticipantThanks 😍 I’m plugged into the Fishman Loudbox Mini and am using a little of the built in chorus and reverb.
I plug the Uke directly into the LR Baggs Para DI box which really helps boost the signal from the Uke and shape the tone.

ParticipantWhat I did was use the course as a structure.. Things that I wanted more info on I just went to YouTube and supplemented the course with it ie. Learning the major scale, or learning about intervals.
Theory is actually really easy I just think it’s probably explained easier when people can ask questions. For example I understood modes but they just didn’t seem right when I played them. I watched lots of YouTube videos and each one was more confusing. Then I saw one video where the guy just explained how to apply it in a song and I was like is that it.. why did someone not just say that..

ParticipantTwo (if I’m allowed two) for me were:
1. I completed the music theory course on here and afterwards I just saw the fretboard and understood how to play it intuitively.
2. I actually realised I don’t suck. For a long time I’d only heard negative things when I picked up an instrument. I don’t feel that way about my playing anymore.

ParticipantJust seen this (apologies). I’m coming upto 2 years in November 😍
surferjay
ParticipantGenuinely impressed, that made my day 👏👏👏

ParticipantI watched the first video and thought it said 4 years ago.. I was thinking that’s mighty fine for 2 months 😍 Makes more sense that it’s 4 years of learning… sounds really great really nice technique 🙂
