ukeherMemberReally enjoyed that! Not easy. Well done!
ukeherMemberAnother vote for Hang On Little Tomato! And going forward anything Pink Martini-ish.
ukeherMemberThank you!!!
ukeherMemberOne more question if you don’t mind. How do you know it’s not a triplet?
ukeherMemberAhhh. Thank you So much!
ukeherMemberHey Andrew,
Slowly working my way through Billie Jean… for bar 38 with the harmonics you caution against using a barre. I am curious why?
Thanks for all you do to make Rock Class 101 the BEST!

ukeherMemberCraig Chee talks about doing just what you are describing: using your big arm muscle to add leverage (? – maybe that’s not quite the right term) to assist in playing barre chords. He’s a really nice guy. I’m sure if you contacted him he could explain it more clearly to you.
ukeherMemberHarvest Moon! Instrumental 😁. Maybe duet?

ukeherMemberWell,
Here is my entry for January. This song challenged (and continues to challenge) me on so many levels – lots of new techniques for me! Definitely a work in progress. Still glitches I have to work on. So slow still but getting there!
The other challenge is sharing it on YouTube. I uploaded it successfully but haven’t been able to ‘share’ it. Any hel would be appreciated. For the time being I have uploaded it as a video link (not through YouTube). Another lesson learned…. don’t wait until the last day of the challenge to post if you haven’t done it before 😁
Thank you Andrew for all the encouragement you give to everyone!

ukeherMemberGetting my courage up to post for January. But I have a technical question… can I set up YouTube so that the whole world doesn’t see my video? Definitely not world-worthy level of playing….
Thanks!

ukeherMemberSo… still working on Spanish Nights (probably for the rest of my life…).
I can play the tune, I have learned (but not masters) the techniques, but I despair of ever getting up to speed. So… today I had an idea. I uploaded my own recording to Anytune and dialed up the speed to 1.5x. So fun! It actually (sort of) sounds like the song!!! Ha. Hope.
It also allows me to ‘hear’ my timing better ( because I can see it) and also see the tonal quality (?) of the notes I am playing (how loud they are relative to each other and sustain).
So I offer this exercise as a fun way to look into my future for Spanish nights…
try it with a song you are working on!
Cheers!
ukeherMemberSo not nerdy…. so cool!
Thanks for this link. Just got back from Ukulele Band Camp where I spent a few days working on swing jazz with Tracy Kim (excellent teacher!). Improv/solos is the Gil. This video reinforced what he taught. Thanks for posting it!

ukeherMemberA great resource for ukulele flamenco is Daniel Ward. He is based in California. Phenomenal player, teacher, and also a kind, funny individual. He has YouTube videos (performances and instructional.) and a website.
I have learned a lot from his workshops at various ukefests. Worthwhile checking out!

ukeherMemberAnother Havana question, this one about notation. Could you clarify what it means when a note is in parentheses? An example is measure 3 – on the second best the A note is in parentheses and it is played. Why the parentheses?
This song continues to challenge me… I leave it alone for a while but keep coming back to it!
Thanks,
Ukeher -
