The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, hahaha!! I’m so happy about that. π π π These are the productive things my brain likes to think about sometimes. I’m most proud of C-Davy Shans. π I didn’t come up with Matty D, I randomly heard Aldrine Guerrero call Matt that once when he was a guest on their podcast and that stuck in my brain. Drew Dizzle is obvious, but also that “celebrity name formula” doesn’t apply as well to his name or Stephen’s. ππ³ Stephen’s could just be Stevie Cox (it has to have a “v” in that version to sound right). Oh! It could be Stevie Boi C. Yep. That’s it. π ππ

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_ π π π πππ I love how quickly things spiral with us with these things! π π
@katazumiri, that was really amazing! I love the combination of instruments you chose, the harmonica worked so well with that. The “cup beat” you did, my sister and I used to play that game as kids and also Anna Kendrick (is that her name?) sang a song with that rhythm in the movie Pitch Perfect. π π That worked so well with that song! Well done! π
@shmu88, that was perf! The strumming sounded especially nice with your take! πI feel like I’m running out of time to share an entry, hopefully I can pull something together soon. ππ π₯Ίπ³

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_ hahaha!!! I was waiting for you to see that, but wanted you to find it organically on your own. π π π ππ It’s like those celebrity nicknames, “T-Shams” for TimothΓ©e Chalamet and “J-Law” for Jennifer Lawrence. I really like that. π π πππ

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@Andrew, yay! I’m so excited for that already! The first two are already really great. ππ
C-Davy Shans always creates great clawhammer arrs. Just as good as Matty D’s and Drew Dizzle’s…
(Those nicknames popped into my head, and I felt the need to unburden myself, whilst simultaneously burdening others with that… π π)

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@misterbones, that was EPIC! Well played! Very cool with the bass! π₯°ππ
@leb397, thank you so much, friend! ππHahaha facts! There’s no time that you sound better than when you’re singing alone somewhere. I’ll sing in the car to try to “practice” when I have tried to sing. π You’re right, it’s all in fun, anyway! ππ Nice with Wildwood, it’s very fun once you get going with it! A learning curve (?) at first but once you’ve got it, you’ve got it! I think it might be part of next month’s challenge, I sense it (I asked @Andrew at one point) . ππAugust 17, 2024 at 8:16 pm in reply to: Participate in the August 2024 Member Challenge: TV Themes! #63131
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, it’s kind of funny that we had the same thought with that about singing and uke. π I forgot you included that in your song, that’s really funny. I had a similar experience, how the creations on RC101 showed what’s possible to do on uke and the nearly endless possibilities with it. Before here, I could only find not really well made ukulele tabs, and I also wanted to create my own but didn’t really have the tools or knowledge to do so, even though I certainly had the will. π Thank you so much! Hoping I can get an entry together this weekend possibly! π Yessss!!! I saw that, I was so excited to see a new clawrhammer here! You should try it, the first part isn’t too hard, but the second part gets a little tricky, but is also really fun. π ππ

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, that was an epic take of that one!! Really lovely playing! I’ve never seen that show but I love that theme. Well done! π It’s pretty dang cute that our ukes have about the same birthday for being played! π That’s pretty crazy about your move. That’s a long while to live in one place. I started playing uke also after a big move and around quarantine time. I also thought that I shouldn’t be playing uke because I thought for some reason singing while playing was necessary. π So I stopped for a while. And I didn’t know what I was doing literally at all until I found RC101. That was kind of a turning point for me because I also learned how beautiful the ukulele community is and that made me love playing uke even more. ππ
@deadbuggy, that was epic! That song is such a bop! Haha I like your acting at the beginning. ππ
@emiliano, haha yes, I have seen The Office and it is hilarious! I haven’t watched that much of it but my sister and her husband practically have the show memorized and quote it constantly so I’ve learned a lot about it through that. π I loved the episodes I’ve seen though. I just don’t like to watch TV by myself very much, only with other people. ππ Anyway, hopefully I can do okay with that theme, I haven’t been practicing as much yet! I wonder how much practice everyone puts in during these challenges. Sometimes I only put in a few days, or slowly practice bit by bit over the month. ππ πΆπ€
@lucauka, haha thank you! The easiest way to play ukulele that long is to love every minute of it and have as much fun as possible. And also continue to challenge yourself which is why I love RC101. All their songs are challenging and fun. π Haha my ukulele says thank you, it’s basically my pet at this point… π
@kittycatlin, really lovely playing! You really brought out the sea shanty quality of that song. Nice!! πAugust 13, 2024 at 3:59 pm in reply to: Participate in the August 2024 Member Challenge: TV Themes! #62929
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@emiliano, perf take on that one! Lovely to listen to! π
@lucauka, really lovely playing! I also have issues with pauses for sure if I’m at all taking time to “process” what I’m doing or what comes next. π Congrats on 100 days o’ uke playing! My uke’s birthday was last month, I think he’s 4 or 5 but I’ve only been consistently playing for the last 3 years or so. I didn’t get him a cake though…! ππ₯ΊπΆ This can be fixed… πAugust 13, 2024 at 3:51 pm in reply to: Participate in the July 2024 Member Challenge β Original Music! #62928
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@emiliano, good to know that you’ll keep making time for uke! You’ve got skillz for sure. Ha! I’ll let you know if I do need help with that, it’s likely, tbh. π π
I’m still grieving the loss of this challenge. I was on such a massive high of excitement from seeing everyone’s original tunes. π Still excited for the next challenges though because it seems like there are some amazing ones coming up. π
August 8, 2024 at 12:02 pm in reply to: August 13, 2024 – Live Lesson: 3 Tips to Make Your Ukulele Playing Sound Better! #62840
The_Bumble_BardParticipantOne way to make your ukulele playing sound better is to attach googly eyes to it, so it serves the dual function of tambourine. π That actually is true on my uke; you can hear the eyes softly rattling sometimes. π
Really looking forward to this topic because I’m not always happy with how my playing sounds. How do you make trills sound better? Very specific question. Thank you one hundo percent! π π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_ ohhh that’s so precious! Congrats to Ashley! ππ
I really liked her version of that song, too. π
I think I’ll probably go with The Office theme just because my sister and her husband are obsessed with that show and then maybe I can eventually play it for them. It may take me longer than a month to learn it well though because it seems pretty tricky. That, or the Game of Thrones theme because that one’s a real bop. ππ
Edit: Just went to go look at the lesson and noticed The Office theme includes ghost note strumming. πΆ I’m still going to try it though. π
Edit x 2: I tried playing through The Office theme and boy is that satisfying to play. I recommend that one if anyone likes that theme. It’s tricky, but not as impossible as it seems. π Okay, done excessively updating now… ππ€

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@ruthie-roo, ha not at all. I actually really like when people give that kind of feedback here. I’m also not even remotely an expert, but just get really excited about topics like these obviously. π
Haha!! Coming up with silly titles like that is the same kind of enjoyment I get from writing the ridiculous posts in the live lessons here, especially because Matt’s reactions / ratorts are always so funny. π π Thank you so much for that! That makes me really happy that you think that blending of styles worked! I think I will continue to try things like that, especially trying clawhammer with styles that can be very different genres, like classical. I find it interesting to try to blend things that don’t necessarily naturally go together. π π
That’s interesting that you created your song through noodling. I feel like some people generally like to create songs with a specific chord progression in mind as a starting point, plan out what they want to create more, and for other people, it’s much more spontaneous. I fall into the second category as well for sure. π I love that and find it so exciting to create with no plan in mind. But, it also can be really fun to take a song that you already know as a starting point and modify it until it becomes something else. I like doing that too. I hope you do continue to create, like Andrew said, you’ve got a knack for it! I think he said that. Either way it’s true. π And you should share it here if you do! Thank you for the nice replies!! πππ

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@morrieuke1, congrats!! That’s so awesome! Curious to know which uke you’ll choose! π
@jbmills07, I’m so sorry your arm is still bothering you, maybe it might be a good idea to have it looked at, if it’s not getting any better. That’s a lot to deal with, really sorry, friend! π₯ But glad you still got to share this month at least! π
@ruthie-roo, that was an epic feedback post, really nice of you to reply to all the originals! π As I told Dianna, I often have trouble containing my enthusiasm and excitement for things I love, which is why I wanted to reply to everyone because I love this topic so much and everyone created such amazing and interesting songs. π And I love to know other’s thought processes behind /approaches to creating. Your original was so, so good, really amazing if that’s the first ever original you ever wrote, but just in general it’s really, really good and perfectly played! It’s actually a fully developed song as well in length. When I try to write songs, I know they can be really short; I should probably work on developing them more like you did. Really lovely work though! π And thank you for your kind words about my song, I had so much fun with that in different ways! I still kind of chuckle at the title which is how I know I “succeeded” in creating quality nonsense in my own mind, if I chuckle to myself like a psycho when I reread it. ππ Anyway thank ye! π
@emiliano, that would be so amazing if you tried clawhammer, that makes me so happy that my little tune made you want to try it! I know you’d do great things with it! I hope you continue to make some time for uke, even though you’re busy, clearly you’re so talented with it! π I also want to learn to play your tune. I want to see how much I can figure out just by listening and seeing the shapes you play. πAgreed, @Andrew, that the talent in this community is amazing. Thank you for making it possible for everyone here to share this way! This was such a great challenge, I’m actually really sad it’s over. π But the August challenge seems really fun! π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@emiliano, absolutely stunning! Along with the beautiful composition, the dynamics you played with captured the scene in the title so beautifully. I actually teared up a bit listening to that. π Well done! π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397 already left many lovely comments for everyone, but just wanted to say to a few people:
@morrieuke1, that was a really lovely composition and so sweet that you wrote it with your son! It’s pretty special to start out musical endeavors early on like that and to work on things together. π
@jbmills07, really good to see you pop in here, friend! Along with orange kitty and secret, left-justified shadow kitty. π I remember you mentioned the other kitties besides Ziggy’s names but I can’t remember which were which now. ππ I know one was Rock Steady. Anyway really sorry your arm is still bothering you, but hope you heal up very soon and your playing was still very beautiful! π
@johanna2509 very beautifully played, friend! π I hope at some point you do get a chance to share an orig, I’m sure it’d be very lovely indeed! ππ -
