I may have been getting tired and therefore slaphappy when I listened back to it. 😅😂 Really thank you! I actually love trying to layer like that but I think I need to get a better program / method for creating duets/layers because the program I have now is Clunky City. 😂
Oh my, so, I managed to get an entry together of Kakariko Village. I learned the harmony, melody, recorded both parts, layered and edited them (unsuccessfully I guess, lol) and uploaded it in an hour flat. And boy does it sound like it. 😅😅😂
When I first listened to the “finished product” back, I cry laughed pretty hard, just because it was so hilariously off. What happened?! I actually even tried to count. I had to record each part separately without listening to the other part. 😂😭😅
I think what happened is that I was playing the melody too slowly. And in my attempts to be “extra” I added notes to the harmony which threw off the rhythm. And also didn’t realize that the last chord of the song was played by itself. I knew this after I listened to @kittycatlin ‘s lovely performance of this one. 😊 @swissconsinboy also played that one really well.
I feel like mine is a “expectations versus reality” prime example. 😅
I’ll say I’m glad that I still tried to get an entry in so I didn’t lose my streak (and because it was a much needed laugh today), but this one maybe doesn’t deserve a prize entry. 😅🥺

Oh, when I first got my banjolele I had to put the bridge in myself and I was so nervous that I’d hurt it but it turned out okay. 😅 For a banjouke that needs that much work it was good for you to have someone else do it; that’s what I’d do. 😂 I’m overly excited for you. 😅😂 At some point I’d love to own any antique uke because I think they’re extra special and always have an interesting history like that.

It has such a sweet, mellow sound to me and you played so well! 😊💕 It’s also really impressive that you learned clawhammer, a whole technique, in that amount of time, too, along with the song. 😊😅

This month has been really crazy for me with some struggles mixed in but I’m hoping I might be able to squeeze in a very last second entry. Don’t worry though, I haven’t even started yet. 😂😂😂😅😅😅

With the song they released last week, “Don’t Know Why,” I immediately thought that could have a cat version, but it’s so beautiful the way Ashley created it, it almost seems wrong to malign it with cats… almost. Helllooooo! So, I thought I’d share the few missing stills from the video I made for last month of the Fur-iends (“Friends” with Cats). I’m quite pleased with these, frankly. 😅😂😅😂
I forgot the color of the orange cat, though (I mean the shade of orange; also I have my screen warm shifted almost always because I get migraines, so that threw things off) so he accidentally was gold in these missing slides. I also was going to make a still of the cats “ying-yanging” as in, sleeping in a ying-yang shape (as cats do), as the ending slide, maybe I’ll share that later. I tried to upload them in the order they’d appear in the video. Hope you enjoy! 😅😂😅

@katazumiri, after thinking about it a bit, this is what I think I would do: I think I would figure out / create a melody by ear, then maybe try to write it down and reverse it, if I can. Then, overlay the two. At first I thought I’d figure out the melody, then note-by-note reverse it, but I already know that would take so long to do (to figure out what the reversed version is because it would just be reversing whatever pattern I play). I think I would have to write it down to remember the reversed version. Theoretically I could memorize the reversed version and that also would work. I actually may do that because I don’t love writing down music. 😂😅 But then it probably would be easier to share it if I wrote it down and would be good to do. Sorry just thinking out loud, lol.
I’ll have to let you know which approach I actually do. 😅
I think I also prefer one canon but that video talking about Bach and Mozart and how classical musician use it made me interested to try it. That also will show if I fully understand it because you’ll be able to tell me if I did it right, I’m sure. 😊
@katazumiri, thank you so much! 😊 When I hear something like that, it’s just so exciting that I want to try it at least. 😅 Couldn’t it be as simple as creating a melody, then reversing the melody, and playing them at the same time?

Hahaha nice! When it comes to concepts like this and certain kinds of techniques on uke, I always at least like to try it to see what happens. There are definitely times it doesn’t work but it’s fun to try. In so many other contexts I’m far less brave. 😂
Oh my, this is such a great topic… I don’t even know the answer though. 😅
I guess I am more of a “by ear” player, but I didn’t even realize fully what that was in the context of the music world until I started playing uke. Just that my childhood piano teacher didn’t want me to do it and therefore I wanted to do it more. 😂 So I feel like I honed that skill much more than reading music well or understanding theory.
To me it boils down to what you love to do with regard to music. I love creating by ear and I don’t love theory as much, but you can create both ways. I can see how having limited theory knowledge makes certain aspects of creating harder though, especially with things like rhythm and creating harmonies. Also, it can be much harder to communicate what you’ve created to other people without the written music. But for me I’ve just enjoyed organically learning things like chords and rhythm as I learn songs, along with the courses here on RC101 and on Matt’s Patreon. And *very slowly* learning how to write down songs with Matt’s help. 😅
I don’t know if you can be a great ukulele player without theory, but maybe you can be a pretty okay one. 😅😂

I mean, if you’re interested in someone who can make cat sounds vaguely on the beat, I could duet with you. 😂 Not really though. I know there are some people on here who can sing. Besides that, I’ve never tried to duet or play uke actually with anyone before. 😳😅

I’m so happy you liked it! 😊💕 This sounds really strange, maybe, but I feel like I’m way better at turning a non-clawhammer song into clawhammer than playing an existing clawhammer song. 😂 I may be wrong, but I think it’s because everyone has things they intuitively do when they play or create a song, so you’re basically trying to learn someone else’s way of playing when you learn a tab as much as the written notes. Maybe that’s really obvious, or maybe I’m a weirdo for thinking of it that way. Hard to say. 😂 So, I know I’m going to find C-Davy Shan’s arrangement of Wildwood really challenging, too, even though I can play the technique. He just creates really good, complex and challenging songs. 😂
Anyway, I’m so excited that you’re learning that! That does make it extra hard to memorize when you don’t have as many repeating patterns, agreed. I felt that way learning “Always With Me” by British Steven. 😂😅 That’s a lovely tune, too. Anyway, extra kudos to you for learning Wildwood, it’s tricky, but I’m so looking forward to hearing it! 😊💕
