    Hi!

Here’s my second try at Etude 30-Hammer Ons, Pull Offs, & Building Speed. I bought a baritone ukulele at the end of January and decided to use it for this take. In retrospect, it was not a good idea to try to “build speed” with a larger instrument! I do feel like I was able to improve my pull off technique this month, though, so I’m glad to have had extra practice with this piece.

I’m going to work on Fingerpicking Etude no. 30-Hammer Ons, Pull Offs, and Building Speed. I chose this one for the November 2024 challenge. I enjoyed playing it but was never able to get it up to speed. I also continue to need work on h/o and p/o, so this etude is a great one to keep practicing. I recently acquired a baritone ukulele and want to become familiar with it, so I will submit a new entry played on the baritone and hopefully more up to speed than in my original post.

    Hi All,

Here’s my rendition of Daybreak. I love the sound of the open chords, and I chose to strum with my index finger instead of thumb since I preferred that brighter sound with this song. Please do not include me for the drawing this month. Thanks!

it sounded great on the baritone! Well done!

    Hi All!

I’ve enjoyed seeing/hearing the wide variety of goals and progress everyone has made! I worked on All You Need is Love this month. I picked it for the uplifting message for the new year and to work on pull offs and stretch chords (which continue to be ongoing challenges…).

    Happy New Year!

I want to start off the year playing a hopeful song…

Execution: I will learn to play All You Need is Love by The Beatles (arrangement by Ukulenny). It is a familiar song to me, but not having a lesson or tab play-along capability will make it more challenging to learn. The song will also allow me to work on pull-offs and a challenging stretch chord.

Application: I will practice regularly, at least 4 times per week, which will (hopefully) allow me to memorize the song. I will work on the song in parts (intro, verse, chorus) and slow down when needed to learn the more challenging parts.

Evaluation: I will assess my progress and adjust my practice schedule accordingly so that I will be able to submit a video of my playing the song at the end of the month.

Here’s my take on O Come, All Ye Faithful from in front on my Christmas tree, where I’ve been spending a lot of time lately. I have been enjoying the entries so far, especially those that have been putting their own twists on the pieces!

I hope everyone has a happy and peaceful season!

@Andrew Thanks for the help! I struggle to play h/o and p/o cleanly consistently. This was such a nice sounding and fun etude to play that I’ll keep working on it to build up speed and consistency with these techniques. The speed with which you play it boggles my mind! At this point, when I tried to play it faster, I found my uke moved too much in my hands, and it really threw things off. I may need to find a good strap…

    Hi All,

I chose Etude 30 this month to work on hammer ons and pull offs. Even though the title of the Etude has “speed” in it, I couldn’t quite get this one up to speed! Luckily, I think it still sounds nice played slowly too.

    Hi, Everyone!

I have been a Zelda fan for years (decades!), and I’m looking forward to the release of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom this month, so this was an easy choice for me. I also wanted to try a video duet with myself. The learning curve was getting the videos synced. Any recommendations for good, easy, and free video editors for Chromebooks would be welcome!

    Hi Everyone!

I’ve been so impressed with everyone’s original pieces! Here’s my first song. I took Andrew’s “keep it simple” advice to heart! I also learned how to add a title page to my YouTube videos this month. I look forward to hearing more of your original songs!

I’ll be travelling this month and, though I’ll be taking my ukulele with me, I wanted to get a video submitted before I left. Here’s my rendition of Yellow Submarine.
