Good job @gi_gi! I like your touches of vibrado. It looks like it comes naturally when you play. I agree that was a tough one. For Evan to do it so well at 13…Wow! I feel like another month with it still wouldn’t be enough for me. There were so many little bits/techniques in the arrangement that added to the groove. It was a great one to learn from.

@leb397 I enjoyed your video; the etude you played was a happy little tune, and I love the chucking technique!@gi_gi your Gymnopédie really captured the emotion of the piece. That’s something I try to work on in my playing, but it always seems to take backseat to getting the right notes! I’m working on St. James Infirmary this month too. I like the rhythm and feel of it, but it has some tricky bits. We’ll see how it goes!

I will not have much time to practice for the rest of this month, so I chose Jasmine Flower. The song grew on me as I learned it, and, in the end, I enjoyed playing it and really liked how parts of it sounded on my ukulele. Even though it is a relatively slow and simple piece, it was a challenge to keep the timing and sustain right in parts.
I agree with what’s been said about practicing. Consistency is important, but sometimes, a break from a section or technique helps. When you return to it, somehow you’re a bit better than you thought!

Here’s my take on Lover’s March. I love the sound of the piece at full speed, but here it is at about 70%. Even at this reduced speed, it was a real challenge for me.

I worked on the rhythm section this month. Muting with the right hand so quickly was difficult in the later parts of the song, so I threw in some chucks.

I chose to work on I’ll Fly Away. I like the sound of the droning G string in the background and wanted a song to practice it (not sure if there is a specific name for that technique). I didn’t get it quite up to the speed I wanted, but it’s the 31st, and I had to post it!

Execution: I would like to learn to play I’ll Fly Away
Application: I found an arrangement by Ken Middleton in which the thumb plays a steady drone note in the background which I enjoy (not sure if that technique has a certain name?), so I will work on this arrangement throughout the month.
Evaluation: By the end of the month, I will post a video of me playing in time (if not up to speed…)
