becky7777ParticipantMorrieuke – ๐Cutest entry I’ve ever seen! You played great too lol! TOTALLY Pro at playing with distractions and even talking at the same time.๐
Sprinting- Love that pineapple uke chilling on the beach! It’s in it’s natural environment!๐
Inywincy- Great playing! ๐๐
Ok I guess I suddenly had an emoji moment but they fit the bill lol!

becky7777ParticipantReally great playing Lynda! Your sound is really relaxed when you play. I’m trying to get there.
Those students in the video.. I’m just trying to keep getting better. ๐ I won’t ever be on that pro level. Glad you got something from the Ben Zander master classes though! I am completely blown away by them. If I didn’t catch a bad case of music nerd-itis from the ukulele, YouTube probably wouldn’t have ever suggested them. REALLY powerful stuff. (imo…)

becky7777ParticipantAyin08- Great job on Pink Panther too! That song is really really difficult!
Love that strum on the strings above the nut. I can’t give any actual ukulele playing feedback because the song is WAY above my skill! If I could play that, I’d be proud though!

becky7777ParticipantMaria – I agree with the “Get a strap!” Crowd.
I couldn’t hold my ukulele properly without pain because it takes too much out of my shoulders.
I just use a button on the bottom. I tie the strap to the neck behind the nut. I wouldn’t be able to put it on or take it off otherwise.
Until I put the button on, a member here showed me I could tie a string around the body where it’s peanut shaped and then behind the nut.
A string isn’t super comfortable or fancy but it saved me in a pinch and let me play right away.
Jake S uses one of those neck straps that hook in the sound hole. I don’t think those hold your uke if you let it go though?
I used an egg beater style old school powerless hand drill so I had complete control of the drill. I used miztaken’s advice and it was super simple. You might need to buy a separate felt washer to go between the uke and the button. The buttons sold at guitar center didn’t come with the washers.
becky7777ParticipantHe had recently been excited about manipulating video. ๐ I forgot where I had read it, probably his website, maybe his YouTube channel… but he wished he had the ability to do the stuff with the videos a lot earlier in his career. The song is from the late 70’s but the video is recent. I don’t know if Word Jazz is/was on the radio much anywhere outside the Chicago area.
Scratch seemed fitting to share. Glad you enjoyed it. ๐

becky7777Participantayin08- Excellent work! ๐
Your ukulele looks like it has more frets then my soprano? Mine only has 12 frets, but I found I could play on the piece of wood past fret 12 to get a couple more notes if I needed them. It’s hard to push the string to get the note to sound good, but it’s possible.

Anyone- I still can’t find what playing past your last fret is called. If anyone knows, (or if it has no name so I can quit looking lol) please let me know. ๐February 15, 2019 at 7:14 pm in reply to: Participate in the February 2019 Member Challenge โ Music Reading Course! #25131
becky7777Participanthuckfine- That was awesome Daniel!
Swabbievet- Glad someone got something out of the video. It’s not the same Bourree, but it’s a dance and Bach anyway, so it directly relates more than others I was watching.
They’re master classes intended for finished musicians I think, but even as a beginner, he opened my eyes.

becky7777ParticipantEverything has been running smoothly on the silk browser for me since the logo change. I didn’t go digging for issues but I haven’t had any hiccups I’m aware of.
I’ll let you know if I run into anything.

becky7777ParticipantOK I know many people may not like the college type lecture videos with performance demonstrations but YouTube decided to recommend some videos by the Boston Philharmonic called Interpretation Class with Benjamin Zander their conductor. I found one covering Bourree so I thought I’d share here.
His insights on making the audience ‘get’ the music, and stories are really good if anyone decides to explore the others. It drives home past feedback I’ve learned from.

becky7777ParticipantThank you Andrew, I wasn’t expecting to be included in the drawing because I failed what I set out to acomplish.
I wasn’t clear in what I meant by “the slide”
Official call to anyone, I feel bad asking Andrew
Can anyone please help me? deadbuggy maybe? or someone working with advanced songs? Please? The guy who posted this hasn’t been active for 7 years it looks like. It’s really emotionally important for me to get this right.
The video of the Tim guy who wrote it showed this 3rd bar being a slide but in that timing. Then when it reaches the 3rd fret it has the irish sounding bit. (Measure 4-5?) The only other video is a guy playing it without the ghost notes. The no ghost note guy (sorry I cant think of your youtube name man) got the ‘irish’ sounding part and it has something to do with the notation I can’t figure out even after what seems like a thousand video viewings.

Measure 3 to the repeate in that screenshot are what I was struggling with. It’s in 3/4 time. It is marked as either a 16th note with a tie? or a 32ond note. The 4 is a double dotted quarter note with a tie? or an 8th note. How do I play or count that up to the repeate?? It’s why I was saying this wasn’t a beginner song though. I watched andrews irish washerwoman video but it seems like a different irish ornament.
I asked my friend to come over with his phone or iPad Saturday to video me if that would help? I can play it with the more upbeat Tim rhythm, i’ll try to get that on tape if I can. I can’t figure out how to download other peoples youtube videos to show specific bits but I think it’s around :53 and ends at 1:00 in Tim’s video.
Thank you, and I can’t express how badly I feel asking.
Edit to add I can’t get the screen shot working…i’ll keep trying
