becky7777ParticipantWelcome Becky ๐ Happy playing to you as well! While you’re at it send some nice warm weather up to the Chicago area… It’s a bit chilly up in these parts lol! I’d settle for a solid 45 degrees for a couple days even ๐
Anyway I’m a beginner but have learned a lot here, hope you have a great holiday!

becky7777ParticipantTiffany- You should sing for more of Robin’s recordings if you guys tackle any of the voice lessons! I can sing in my head only! I can’t, once anything in there tries to leave my mouth lol! I waver and sing off key- It’s really bad! (Also why Ukulele Anthem is the ONLY song I will sing!!!- If I can remember the 1200 lyrics ๐ because its made to be good even if you cant sing)
Ricky- Love the hat! And heck, even though you didn’t like the strum part recorded you can always change it up. You would have cringed if you heard me playing around with the rhythm one night, but it was a blast and addictive lol! I forced myself to stop what I was doing for fear of it erasing how the song really went!๐ I was surprised how much I ended up enjoying playing La Gitanita.
Going to see about posting The Gypsy take 2 tonight and the little bit I have of Moon. Moon won’t be an entry but I’m sticking with that one. Wish I had it down for the challenge but some of the parts are a bit above what I can manage with the time I had.
Still loving everyone’s work!!

becky7777ParticipantLynda- I was planning on posting as far as I got with Moon, which isn’t too far. (Only got through theme 2, the rest is a train wreck…) I’m really proud of what I can play of it though. Getting that picking pattern was really difficult for me. Glad you didn’t hear my normal entry lol! I planned on putting a take 2 up on that as well. Hopefully on take 2 I won’t be ready to keel over either lol.

becky7777ParticipantNice job to everyone still submitting. Blown away by ALL Moon entries though!
Lynda- I’m not sure you know just how much more meaning your Apple comment has then just their mic lol! Snorted when I read that! ๐
I’m also jealous of your sunny weather just got a bunch of snow dumpped on us in Illinois… Shoveling is torture!
Stinyuke- My bad! That scenery doesn’t look like anything I picture when I think California!! It will take me a couple weeks to fully remove the foot from my mouth!
I’ll definitely look into the beginner lesson coarse thank you!
becky7777ParticipantWelcome Matt!

becky7777ParticipantAndrew- That was unexpected and very sweet! Thank you! “Hurries up and learns game of thrones…” Kidding! – I can imagine how I’d murder THAT to death 5x over! I did figure out the little 11 note theme HBO plays before all their shows by myself though! LOL! But I’m definitely checking out some features. ๐
rpina61- I spent a bunch of time swapping between the 2 videos. The green color of the new set is pretty neat. Thank you for posting the comparison videos. Grats again to you and everyone else who got that harmonic to work btw. I still only get the sound of me smacking the neck and the strings just complain a bit noisily after as an afterthought so i’ll stick with my self imposed tricky bit lol. ๐
stinyuke- I agree, you chose a pretty place to record! It is spring where you are I think? Great job on the song too!
becky7777ParticipantLove the santa picture holding it! It’s the perfect size for him!
Make sure he doesn’t hide the case keys too well though! Can you imagine him forgetting where he hid them? ๐

becky7777ParticipantStill love watching everyone’s videos and songs on SoundCloud! I’m working hard to improve.
Just wanted to pop in and wish everyone celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow a happy stress-less day. For those elsewhere in the world I wish the same but with no holiday attached!
In the spirit of the holiday I do want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to all premium members specifically. You All make learning here possible for those of us who aren’t yet able to be premium. All the great friendly people coming together here from across the globe learning ukulele from a bunch of great teachers is awesome. Another shout out to Andrew and the gang for giving basic members a shot at the giveaways too. A few people out there use them as a premium perk only. After seeing the list in October the premium member perk is super awesome but I do appreciate the shot at the giveaway and the feedback especially!
Love and Thanks
becky7777ParticipantWasn’t familiar with the song and listened to yours and the MC song on VEVO. Sounds to me like you pretty much nailed it. Timing seems to be on with the song. Great job on figuring it out for Christmas too!! As for you thinking something is off, Her music box stuff in the beginning is in a higher key but you got the notes I think? I could be wrong, what I remember hearing in my head is a lot different than what I actually hear in a song. (Bashing my head on the wall over my nemesis song NG lol) I also don’t know if a uke CAN go that high so I’m joining Rickey in the peanut gallery of general people that enjoy it. I’m in no way qualified to critique a song, I just talk way too much.
Fast forward my much lacking newbie ukulele skill to your level though please!November 18, 2018 at 10:02 pm in reply to: Obscure Question To Anyone: Name for playing above available frets? #20157
becky7777ParticipantWell I was looking on amazon and found a Kimise concert ukulele that comes set up supposedly with a special bridge, smooth frets, possibly free strings for life (gotta be a shipping and handling catch there!), low action and a few accessories for $39.99 as a black friday deal of the day? week?… It had good reviews so I used the $25 dollar gift certificate I had been saving and just went for it. Merry Christmas to me lol. I think the concert size will still allow me to hold the uke semi comfortably..
I still want to know what this is called, but soon i’ll hopefully have some more frets I won’t need to worry about smashing the string down in the right spot. I will also maybe gather up the courage to put that Aquilla Soprano Low G set on my current uke. I’m so afraid i’m going to put them on wrong…
becky7777ParticipantOne finger wonder- Mary had a little lamb- awful version of the lament I figured out from a harp + 2 violin youtube video. NOT from those tabs btw. Just posting this first take. I hit the note on bare wood better the second time it goes to the higher part. I suppose it could make some people feel a whole lot better about their playing though! LOL! I have a loooooong road before I’m going to be playing this any good but i’m determined to learn this song! It’s not so bad for playing uke a month, but i’m aware it’s bad!

I figured out two little things from the original guitar composition to make up for not doing the harmonic tap. He got fancy near the end of the song…. and learned them before reading we didn’t NEED to add the tapped harmonic if we just couldn’t get it to go off. I kept messing up and restarting the recording I was sooo frustrated I just went on to the end. No effects were added. This is straight DiamondHead soprano ukulele using a cheap Axl suction cup piezo pickup to plug directly into my laptop to record.
Sorry again for the glaring mistakes. I did try to get more dynamics this song using a stronger and shorter second strum. I can’t use my thumb at this time either. I failed a lot with picado and raciado too.
November 15, 2018 at 10:58 pm in reply to: Obscure Question To Anyone: Name for playing above available frets? #20084
becky7777ParticipantEdward LOL! I know… Maybe December or spring sometime. I have one of my friends keeping an eye out too but he hates a couple brands one of our music stores carry and refuses to tell me if he sees one of those brands at Goodwill or one of the many resale shops he frequents lol.
Kanae- That’s exactly what I need to do to get those couple notes BUT I can’t do anything past the wood.. That string thing is insane! If I didn’t just see that I wouldn’t believe it. Believe me, when I post my “give a first grader a recorder and play mary had a little lamb” version of that Neil Gow tune, it isn’t anything impressive or like THAT lol! Neil Gow and surprisingly that “chicken/turkey in the straw?” song both need just one note above 12. In what Andrew would probably break it down into melody B lol!
Anyway- Thank you for finding an example at least. Can’t really be like “Hey Jake my man, whatcha doing there? What’s it called other then crazy?” ๐

becky7777. Reason: An 'e showed up to the party uninvited
becky7777ParticipantMalachi- The different wood the tops made from effect the sound a bit. You might want to research some of the tone woods on youtube and narrow down the possibilities? Just a suggestion anyway. Consider the setup of the uke too. I saw Andrew did a review of a tattoo model Luna from Amazon and found its action too high. If you need to fix something like that, consider bringing your new uke into the luthier into the total cost. (I’m not saying this is the case with Kanae’s or anyone’s suggestions btw, just in general something to keep in mind depending on where you buy it.)
I am looking into an Oscar Schmidt laminate spaulted mango tenor which falls into your price range right now on Amazon…. Can’t guarantee you’d love it, but Rick plays one here and loves his. (I like mango wood) Goes without saying We’d all love to win the crazy beautiful contest ukulele too.
Basically in a very very long-winded roundabout way, all I’m saying is “The Best” is kind of personal preference. Maybe i’m wrong, but if you’re in the same boat as me $200 is a large investment and I’m just trying to help you to be happy with your choice long term.
In my case, when I can upgrade, just about any ukulele will be better then the $12 one I own right now, but I still like it, it’s quirky.
Anyway, good luck! I’m sure a lot of people will give lots more great suggestions to look up!
becky7777ParticipantNice Rick, ๐ love your ukulele too both for sound and looks. The dark striping down near the bottom is beautiful, it reminds me of trees or kelp.
After researching different woods I’m guessing that’s mango? If I can ever afford one i’m so dreaming of getting a solid mango soundboard uke or a spaulted mango laminate ukulele. (I’m guessing the spaulted mango isn’t strong enough to hold up to being an instrument by itself since it’s beginning to rot? Donno.)
Anyway been watching a lot of your stuff and you’re playing is always enjoyable.
