I found Jake on YouTube for the first time a few nights ago. He is a great player you were lucky to see him play πŸ™‚ AND you had great seats! Congrats on your new ukulele too! πŸ˜€

That’s awesome! It’s upbeat and perky. If it were me and the feelings it invokes I’d lean towards ‘Morning Coffee’ or ‘Morning Stroll’ as a name. When you’re playing it, think of where it takes you, how you feel, and what you think about. It does ring the bell on how I feel getting my first coffee though. Happy- upbeat – perky – mood lifting (yeah yeah I suppose perky IS a coffee pun lol but my feeling stands mostly pun free πŸ™‚ )

Same entry as back on page 15 or 16? but got it properly on Soundcloud finally. I’m leaving it on G-Docs till January just to be safe though. Sorry for the double post Stephen, Andrew, and Evan. I can’t edit the original to add this link.

I’ve been working on this a little so far, but it’s above my current skill level. I’ll put up some recordings so nice community members can cringe at my struggles and maybe hopefully give advise.

I’m working on gypsy woman, moon, this, clawhammer ukulele, (Wow i’m BAD at clawhammer!!!! But I want to play a banjo tune “My Dog Has Fleas” – what better song to learn because of the uke’s tuning, and its ‘easy’ if I can get clawhammer down.. πŸ˜€ lol!) and lastly working on ukulele anthem. I don’t think I’ll ever memorize that crazy song’s 10 pages of lyrics without getting tongue tied!

I’ll post my niel gow progress asap though. If anyone else knows this and wants to share, please do. I’ve loved this song for such a long time and it’s great someone arranged it for ukulele!

Thank you robin! Real-life face palm here. I was looking at the songs page themselves for the level. On the song listing page, I was always busy scrolling and didn’t pay attention to the level groupings. So yeah I feel really dumb about that!

My friend has taken it upon himself to order me an unknown low g aquila set. My bridge is just a normal tie-on kind. The strings I have now, came on my ukulele so are trimmed but have quite a few winds so it doesn’t sound hopeful it can be saved, but I will, just to have and see.

as for Andrew and the gang- I’m basic at the moment so I’m relying on the super community to field 99.9% of my dumb questions. No toes were stepped on during the typing of your answer and I thank you and everyone else very much! I ‘m just so grateful he opened his site and is sharing as much as he is. I’m going to throw money his way soon hopefully! The lessons are definitely worth it!

REALLY Dumb question probably but if I put a low G on my uke can I re-use my old high G if I need to change it back or are they trashed once you take off a string? I tried to play moon earlier but once you get into the fancy picking pattern in bar 5 the high G just sounds really bad/wrong. (I was delusional that I could learn moon without the low g apparently…. I am probably delusional I can learn it at all at this point but it’s pretty..)

Also, how is everyone getting the song difficulty levels?? I’m not seeing anything that says level 3?

I subscribed your to your channel but am not entering because the only reason I could see me playing bass (which I can’t wrap my brain around right now) is to play Summertime Rolls from janes addiction,(catchy song!) or tinker around. I don’t see that as a reason to take away someone elses chance. Plus I have my hands full figuring out regular ukulele for now!

Love your Ubass though and love love love your stand up! You’re awesome for running the giveaway πŸ™‚

Josephus- As long as you followed the rules in the beginning of the contest thread you’re fine! πŸ™‚

The focus is doing your best to your ability, playing the whole song you choose, hopefully that reflects your skill level, and letting them know on your entry if you’re a premium member or not so you get the correct number of entries.

I’m happy I found rock class 101 so soon after beginning to learn ukulele. The monthly challenge is a great push to learn -and- it pushed me to record myself which I would NOT have done in a million years.

Regardless you have 2 more chances to enter if you wish. November and December are going to really push us all to get some more skills under our belts! πŸ˜‰ Good luck!

I was running out of time and ordered before I saw answers πŸ™
I ended up getting the: AXL Acoustic Guitar Transducer Pickup with 1/4 Jack and 9 Foot Cable and

Hosa GMP113 1/4 Inch Female To Mini 1/8 TS Male Mono Adaptor.

Plugs into the headphone/microphone usb adapter I already had. no amp needed but the adapters stick out dangerously far. It’s not super great but it works. I was scared to get the one with the red pickup because I wasn’t sure what else I would need to make it work with my laptop. The suction cup piezo is solid on my shiny smooth finish though. All mine does is pick up the sound my uke makes, and it does pick up hammer- ons and such better I would think.

@Anne – I thought your uke sounded great on your entry, loved the mask too! Strings from what I’ve gathered will make your ukulele sound a bit more mellow or brighter. The cheap strings that came on my uke are definitely not bright- or loud. I have no idea what the company puts on their ukuleles though. All i saw was “comes with new strings” lol.

If you guys play with the pickups, you can add effects with audicity free software to make it sound more like Evan’s and Tiamaine’s performance. I liked NCH but the free trial ended πŸ™

Loving everyone’s entries! Some make me really say wow! I think Andrew and Stephen got the 50 they were shooting for! (And more!) The two songs for November are going to be interesting. Not sure I can move my thumb correctly for Gypsy woman without crazy pain. (Broken)I want to learn moon, but i’m afraid i’m going to murder the song dead…

Looks like soundcloud shot me a confirmation email today. I’ll get my entry off google drive and put it there when I can. We have trick-or- treaters already.

Happy Halloween again everyone! For people in other countries who don’t celebrate, happy October 31st! πŸ™‚

Hlglazi- try kanae926’s suggestion, I don’t have a clue how to upload there. Hope you get it sorted out!

@miztaken- You’re so sweet thank you. I ended up getting an inexpensive suction cup pickup and an adapter to plug directly into my laptop so I can record. The adapters stick out about 6″ so I can see why plugging in directly is frowned upon! If I run off connected I can easily destroy my laptop lol! It beats the AWFUL frying sound I had from my microphones though!

    I AM A BASIC MEMBER

Beginner level– Walking Dead Theme- October Contest Entry
Happy Anniversary Rock Class 101! and Happy Halloween Everyone!

Soundcloud account conformation does seem to be down. If you can’t confirm your account you can’t upload there. I haven’t tried to see if I can put a custom sound track on a video. I am not even sure what I can edit video with yet for YouTube, so this month is just audio. I’m not sure I have time to learn video editing before the deadline!

The only modifications to the recording are: I normalized the track to boost the volume. (my ukulele is very quiet, especially when fingerpicking) I added Audicity’s default reverb setting. It sounds like I’m in a big room rather then a stuffy tiny one plunking away lol.

Google drive link for now, until soundcloud gets its act together:
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/11Vb8BSyEbAoCSdHYgj6ZlprsB8z2l2am/view?usp=sharing

I just realized I messed up and played a chord one too many times! (Might be modifying the entry.) I’m not happy with the strum sound either. I’ve been practicing this tune daily. I tried to keep it in time to the best of my ability. Used fingerpicking rather then a pick, tried to implement as many tips as I could, shared in the video, I even took notes but recording seems to make it all harder lol.

hlglazi- your video is showing to click on, but it’s showing the video itself is unavailable at the time i’m writing this.

Miztaken- congratulations again on your Christmas present! You will have to make sure your new ukulele is ok after it gets there, maybe hubby will let you test drive it briefly?

The la granita (cant spell it from memory) alternate song for november has tapping in it. I spent a few hours using my uke as a drum and found out I can get a few pretty distinct, interesting drum sounds from the front. Maybe you can dedicate the soprano ukulele you said was horribly out of tune up high on the neck, into a uke to practice tapping on? I don’t think I’d personally have the guts to beat on an expensive ukulele, but your “toy” might still be a lot of fun.
