becky7777ParticipantThe uke giveaways are great motivation mariainct! I totally agree, and it’s awesome uke republic, andrew, and kanile sponsor them!
It’s multi purpose though, as terrifying as it is recording for our performances, we are kind of blinded by ourselves and how we are perceiving what we’re doing. Recording practice (which i’m starting to do) also points out things we don’t know we are having problems with.
I’m starting to record some practice in hopes that when performance comes around I don’t freak out as much. I get myself into a “This is it! I have to do it PERFECT!” mindset. My heart races, I shake, I suddenly can’t play what I was playing semi good if not almost nailing it right before I hit that button.. Etc. I’m hoping pressing record will just become a normal thing and I can manage to get through it relaxed.
Besides everyone is SOOOOO supportive here and helpful. Hope to see you join in. Don’t be intimidated.
becky7777ParticipantFor those that were requesting Wish You Were Here, I wanted to share this. He did a good job on this. Wish there was tabs.

becky7777ParticipantSubmission for time issues.
I can’t clean it up in time but im resubmitting my done version tonight. I just lopped a chunk out of an hour long take trying to get one with no mistakes and ran out of time.
I just took the end of the first submission. Swearing is gone. I apologize. I’m still messing with it to probably clean up the beginning and end, make it a little louder etc.
I need help with the slide on the 5th fret badly please. I’ll link the original video and tabs with finished chunk.
Below is the same chunk of song but fixed it up. I messed with adding rain and thunder. Spent some time putting things so they go to different ears added a load of effects to the uke track to make it sound less stuffed with socks. Something about the sound is not really resonant so I tried to make it more treble? I think the first track is natural uke sound. Sorry I’m a wreck in real life right now

becky7777. Reason: unforseen swearing. I didn't know. The mic picks up my hand on the neck and whispers. I didn't have any time

becky7777ParticipantMheiden- To use an overdone quote: “You’ve come a long way baby!” I’m hoping to do a comparison at the end of 2019 with my challenge song this month.
Caught up on everyones submissions I think. After listening to two of Jake’s arrangements by you guys, I just ordered his book along with another $20 mic on Amazon. (I mentally can see Andrew pulling on his hair, throwing up his hands, and screaming “Why?! Oh for the love of God, WHY?!” then probably laughing at my idiocy at not just saving for good gear. lol) Condenser mic this time though so I can hopefully crank down gain. (Reviews say it’s sensitive enough for acoustic guitar at least….) It will probably be horrible, but you do what you gotta do, until you can do something better. That Pyle wannabe Sure mic is actually pretty decent for louder things. Just not sensitive enough to “Turn on and listen” when it hears me playing the uke without max gain and weird alien dialup modem noise. (Electrical interference?? I can figure it out.)
Fully enjoyed listening to, and watching, everyone’s submissions and updates so far though. I’m impressed by every single person’s progress I’ve seen or heard since I joined! Everyone’s been so inspiring. I’ve learned so much watching and listening to everyone, not just the teachers.
becky7777ParticipantHope you guys had good performances and whoever was able to meet up had fun! 🙂

becky7777ParticipantAnne- I’m still a bit too broken to attempt a baroque dance, let alone while playing, but I would even without extra credit just to take you up on it to be goofy lol.
I AM going to steal the fancy finger flutter thing Phil does in the lute recording and try to apply a bit of it to Andrew’s version.. (That alliteration was unintentional but I don’t know the name of the technique. lol.

becky7777ParticipantAhh the evils of tablets with on screen keyboards that cover the bottom 1/3 of the screen! It hides all kinds of things once the page stops scrolling!
Love the outlined definition of each player skill level based on skills learned.
It doesn’t directly answer how the actual ‘song levels’ are figured in blatant “This song is placed in level 1 because it’s a repetitive strumming pattern + 3-4 normal chords in open position.” But yeah after reading the player skill definitions I can start looking at why a song might be placed higher or lower then another song now I think.
I need a good whack on the head by the Captain Obvious stick sometimes!
(Just to clarify- For anyone wondering about the reference it has nothing to do with creepy fruit animations on the internet. Let’s just say I have had fun odd friends in my past.)
Anyway thank you both. The song levels have been mysterious and I’ve wondered about that for months.
becky7777ParticipantI just got a chance to start playing with the new mic and audio interface last night.
My computer was having sound issues before I plugged in the interface, but after hours of trial and error, I have sound coming out of the mic. Finally.
I’m guessing some things are still completely set up wrong though. I have to have the gain at max on the audio interface with the mic 3-4 inches from the ukulele. Mics sure do pick up clothing noise, (what’s more quiet than a cotton t-shirt??? 😭) and ANY noise my fingers make on the neck.
Anyway other than mic hiss, that I can get rid of in the software, i’m really happy with the two things.
Going to make a recording tonight and might play a bit with it in the software 😁
becky7777ParticipantAndrew-
The only place I can find a search field is on the forums, and it only returns forum results. Is this a current feature or is it in planning for the future?
Searching for techniques like backbeat would be amazingly handy!
becky7777ParticipantSprintingyogini – I run around with this fire tablet all day. (I suppose it’s like my not-a-smartphone? LOL) LOL
I downloaded wps office app on it since amazon already used a portion of it in the place it keeps all the operating system junk.
It makes all the tabs a .pdf automatically once it downloads and opens them. (And it’s free.)

becky7777ParticipantI couldn’t hear the strings sticking on your progress take. Recently my strings stick to my fingers sometimes and my hands seem really dry too. I never ‘put on the brakes’ to see what exactly was happening but it only started happening recently.
After reading your comment yesterday, I wiped my strings with a damp paper towel, (I never have cleaned this set and maybe they are just grungy?)
I found out I might need to change strings which is probably unrelated to sticking to fingers, but I don’t know? They feel like they have really deep waves on the bottom from pushing on the frets. I can’t imagine I could wear out new strings in a couple months though. I read every 6 months is normal.
Anyway, you aren’t alone, not sure why it happens either. Those are my two guesses for my situation.
becky7777ParticipantLisa -If you mess with the upper menus in wavepad the kindle one does drag back and forth, showing options off the screen. There’s pretty good tutorials they put out for wavepad, worth looking at them. I have no idea what a lot of the things do yet either btw. I’ve only messed with a small portion of the abilities and effects.
In your wavepad cleanup you should have options to analyze for noise. If it makes you select a portion of the noise, pick the beginning or end silence with the hiss, so you don’t erase your whole track lol. Done that! 😱
I haven’t gotten to video yet. I need hours of “me time” to start down that rabbit hole…. Ideally I think if I record video along with the audio track on two devices they will probably line up. That’s my theory anyway. I need to find a good free video editor that can add audio tracks first that isn’t impossible to use too. Might just say forget it and submit help videos you can barely hear in the meantime.
