What a great idea and challenge Andrew, count on me.

I had the very good fortune to have my name pulled for the second Taimane Uke last month and I am a firm believer in paying kindness forward.
You , Mike, and Tainane made that drawing special so it’s time to step up.

I have made a $200 donation to this great effort. A scan of the list of hospitals linked to his program to say the least is inspiring. Kids across the US and I even saw many international sites are helping children heal through music.

A few years back I had an overnight stay in a hospital when the sound of a uke being played floated down the hall during the evening rounds. It was a comforting sound amoungst the noise commonly found there. In walked my Doc, uke in hand, who discussed my condition. When I asked him about his unusual bedside manner he described how just sturming soft notes made every patient more at ease and comfortable when they were facing far too often hard conversations about their health.

I am pleased and humbled by being able to pay this forward. Thanks again for putting it together and for the comfort in knowing that a few more smiles and soft music will will flow outward amount the other noises of healing.

May you, Mike, and all of the RockClass 101 community enjoy the Merriest of Christmases

Many thanks to everyone who put this together, Andrew, Mike, and of course Taimane. It’s your love of the uke that is so contagious to us all regardless of our individual skill sets.

The wonderful thing about his artist is her passion for her craft and willingness to openly share that passion. Freely answering questions about her history and techniques only advance other who are striving to improve their skills and love of the uke.

I see the Ukelele’s seem to be made with 2 different width necks. Which width do you favor and what advantage or disadvantage do you see in the difference between them. Thanks so much for participating in this forum and in supporting Andrew and his work to share the passion of playing the Uke.

Neat question Andrew and a great way to expand our knowledge of Uke artists. I am just starting so of course found Jake Shimabukuro on YouTube. I do like his style and have spent the last two days listening to his CD’s as I traveled down the east coast and tomorrow on to TN.

    Good evening,

Like you I am a beginner as well and from from what I see on YouTube on videos that show the construction of Ukes these are just glued on. You can certainly try cleaning out the joint with a piece of fine sandpaper slid under the neck and gentle rubbed back and forth to clean out old glue and then with a toothpick or even a needle try forcing some wood glue back into the joint and then with a bit of rope or even a belt force the neck back against the body for the glue to set.

Hi Andrew, I took you advice and tried Our First Song. I also took the clue from Tessie and muted the 4th string with my index finger.

    Thanks for the kind advice.

I played the piece over and over at a much slower rate because that one of the only songs the Elvis did that I ever liked. He sang it slow and full of soul. When I did the first video that way I could hear far more of the same issues that i felt were in the one published. That being pauses in rhythm, unclear notes, and simply only having 2 months learning the instrument.

But I am jazzed to be doing this and getting better and more confident every day. Thanks again for the advice and I plan on working to organize my practice sessions better to help me move forward.

Here is my shot at Aura Lee. I have been playing about 2 months and am working on trying to get each note clean and clear. This is not my best, but one that I felt would offer up come constructive comments. This is tons of fun and many thanks to Andrew for putting together Rock Class 101.

What a great challenge for us beginners. Not to figure out how to record a video and post it. Learning the songs will help too…..
