I really like this song (and the movie!). I’m still working on it to make it more fluid and I figured that I’d make my entry and get some feedback – thanks in advance.

Hotmilktea – you’re a tough act to follow – that was beautiful.
I really struggled with this one and finally just ran out of time – so here it is, warts and all.
I went to the Midwest Uke and Harmonica Camp last weekend. There were 180 or so students and about a dozen faculty taking over a small college campus for 2 days. It was amazing. They had a variety of classes, strum-a-long sessions, 2 faculty concerts, an open mike, and plenty of people just getting together to play. The friendliness and inclusion of people at all levels was heartwarming. One of the most fun things was trying out other people’s ukes (and Elderly Music ran a store and brought both inexpensive (did you know they make a glow-in-the-dark floating plastic uke?) and *really* expensive ones to try out. If you have a chance to go to one of these, I’d recommend it.
Anyway – my entry Tonight you belong to me.

gstriphMemberI’m going to Midwest Uke Camp in Michigan.
gstriphMemberOTOH 2 weeks in… I’m the only one who made it to the end! LOL. It’s interesting. I had a private lesson earlier this year with Matt. One of the things he pointed out is that people who have moved beyond the complete beginner stage look at the sheet music and say I can play this so don’t go through the lesson… and miss the fingerings and advice that makes the music fluid and resonant. So I had a “new year’s resolution” to go through the lessons bar by bar… and use the darn tab player (like a metronome, I’ve viewed it like taking medicine LOL – but, yeah, I can see that it actually helps… :-). Andrew — RC101 is really great – thanks!
PS I’m both excited and nervous… next week I’m going to a ukulele weekend a few hours from here… the first time I’ll really be playing with others…

Curse you Andrew! Although I would have been thrilled with this a few months ago, you’ve raised my standards (LOL) and I see and hear lots of areas for improvement but, it’s the end of the month, so here it is!

gstriphMemberEarly in the month, I sent my Dream a little dream of me entry and got some feedback about phrasing and rhythm. Here’s the first stanza… so Andrew, is this what you were thinking about?
Thanks,
Jerry
gstriphMemberOops. Didn’t load the earlier posts. lol.

gstriphMemberSounds good. Cool looking uke too!
gstriphMemberWabbit:
Aha! I’ll check that out. Thanks for finding that!
Jerry
gstriphMemberThanks! Pretty confusing. I don’t think I’ve seen 12/8 before.
gstriphMemberI guess I should have just asked how to count triplets in 12/8 time. I found you still count them like in 4-4 time but that quarter notes have 1.5 rather than a 1 count… not sure what it means since the triplets are still in groups of 4 but I can follow along with the video.
