Thanks Becky, Glad I could inspire a little crochet in your life, haha. I will probably try to post a video after I try practicing with a freshly crocheted strap. I think that will help, and as I get used to the chords some, and I will see about practicing out of the skinny frets too. It may take me some time but I hope to get something to share.

Hi All, I already submitted Kemp’s Jig, but I am excited to share Eastern Uke, I’m actually surprised to have learned this one in time to submit, I think it just shows how much RC101 has taught me since joining in April (I think it was april, I started playing in January). I can’t say enough how grateful I am for all the work done here by RC101. Thanks! And to have a friendly place to share our accomplishments is wonderful. I *tried* to work on some dynamics in the song too, I really liked how nthibode sounded on her video. Mine isn’t perfect, but I feel the progress…. : )

Thanks Andrew, I will give it some time using the soprano ukulele and see if I can come up with something close. I need to crochet a strap for the neck first so the darn thing doesn’t slip away from me! LOL!

And Ron, I hope you are right!

I pulled out my daughter’s little soprano. I’m not giving up yet! LOL.

Thanks Lisa, Robin, and Miztaken, I will make note of your suggestions and look at swapping out strings again. (as if the first time wasn’t scary enough! Lol). Deadbuggy – I liked the sound of your Kemp’s Jig. Very nice tone. I really enjoy hearing everyone’s entries.

    Hi All,

I am submitting Kemp’s Jig. I was wanting to try a Low G ukulele, so when I received a Soprano Uke for my bday last month, I thought I would switch out the strings (all 4) and give it a try. (I didn’t like the strings that came on it, but as a kit it came with a lot of stuff for only $70). I bought the Aquila Low G set. The low G is a wound string, so I don’t care for the squeeky sound when doing slides, but I’m not sure there is anything to do about that really. And that Low G really sings, I have to be careful not to pluck too hard or it over powers. Any suggestions? And this soprano seems to have a narrow neck and it was hard to do the pull off in measure 6. I really need to focus on using the very tips of my fingers. (among other things of course, ha.) I am also working on Eastern Uke, but not sure I will have it ready in time, so here is my Kemp’s Jig submission. : ) ~ Holly (premium member)

(ok, I’m trying this again, somehow I deleted my post instead of editing. Oops!)

Hi all, I paged through all the posts and had fun hearing all the different styles of Ukuleles, each has such an individual sound.

I am submitting Jurassic Park, it would have been fun to submit this from the beach while on vacation, but seeing as how I was away from my “good” uke, and using my new travel uke (Flea from Magic Fluke), I waited. But that’s not to say my Flea wasn’t a champ in the heat and salty beach air. I played it so much on our trip. However, glad to be home with my favorite uke again to record my submission. So here we go . . .

Excited for the next challenge! ~ Holly

Hello Everyone! I just paged through all the posts again, and looks like we all had fun with these tunes. I love hearing all the different ukuleles and enjoying each “voice”.

I went with Jurassic Park. I would have been fun to record it from the beach (vacationed in the Outer Banks, NC.) but I really wanted to record it with my favorite Uke, it just sounds better. But that’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy playing on the beach with my Flea while we were there, it didn’t mind the HOT temps and salty air at all. But I am happy to be home with my Amahi again. : ) So here we go . . .

Excited to see what’s up for next month! ~ Holly

Yellowrosescottag – You asked about my ukulele… It’s an Amahi African Burl Concert Ukulele.

    C-10 Amahi African Burl, Concert

It does have an amazing sound quality in my opinion (even when I can’t seem to play it as well as it should be played, lol.) I absolutely love it! It was my first ukulele, purchased about 7 months ago, and I play it everyday, an hour or more at a time. It holds tune beautifully and doesn’t need to be tuned often. I’m starting to consider putting new strings on it but am afraid to mess with it until it really needs it. It’s my baby and I’m not even taking it to the beach with me next month, I bought a Magic Fluke Flea for that trip. oh and I just used my phone to record the video (Samsung Galaxy s7 Edge).

And Karenj – I checked out the kazoo you linked to. That’s an interesting shape indeed!

And Kumakuma – e-ukulele, wow! Very cool sounding, and perfect for wipe out.

Hoping I can check out the live youtube stream on the 4th during my lunch break at work to see who wins the Kanile’a. Good luck everyone! : ) Looking forward to July’s challenge and what will be next. Thanks to all at rc101 for keeping us on our toes and practicing!

    Hello Everyone!

I’ve so enjoyed hearing everyone’s songs. Very inspiring! And congrats to those who can sing. I prefer not to in public, lol. So here is my entry with Tonight You Belong To Me. I recorded it twice, because I was unsure which version would “count” as an entry, so I am adding the Kazoo w/chords version and the uke solo only version. I prefer the kazoo version, so much fun. LOL. I bought 3 different kazoos to find my favorite sounds (Woodman, Horner, and kid’s party version). I choose the Woodman, for it’s lighter sound. So below are both with and without kazoo, but by far the kazoo version is my choice.

    With Kazoo…

And the Uke solo only version…

The Hammer-Ons in the solo don’t play well for me, so I just played them. I think the timing is off to hear it ring, or and the action on my strings is too high, so not sure if that has much to do with the ring not sustaining or not? Oh well, like I said, the kazoo version is my favorite. Thanks for listening.

Here is my May submission, not perfect at all, but the best take I can offer at the moment. Darn that harmonized chord on the 12th fret. I only hit that about 50% of the time it seems, and this was NOT one of those times. lol. And I struggled in other spots as well. I will keep working on it, but I wanted to get something shared before time ran out. I love hearing all various submissions and sounds from everyone. I don’t feel so alone on this journey! Thanks Andrew and Matt for this challenge, I’m looking forward to the next!

Thanks for the feedback Andrew! So helpful for you to do this for all of us. I’m even learning from the comments you leave for others. If I were your mom I would be so proud of you and what you have accomplished with this website and all the people you are helping and inspiring. (sorry if that seemed like a weird comment to make lol, I guess that’s the mom in me talking.) Anyhow, I am really enjoying Rockclass101 and the challenges. May’s challenge will be a challenge for sure for me but I’m practicing already. Thanks again!! : )

Here is my sub for the April Challenge… Dream a little dream of me. It took quite a few takes to get this one recorded. No fun having small hands, lol.

    Looking forward to May’s challenge. : )
