    Hi, @jasdel,

I have used and can recommend the Rode NT-USB Mini microphone: https://rode.com/en/microphones/usb/nt-usb-mini
It can be connected directly to an Android phone/tablet via USB-C. The sound it picks up is really excellent. The only thing that bothered me was that it picks up a wide area, so I had to use some kind of sound barrier.

That’s why I switched to a Zoom H1n audio recorder https://zoomcorp.com/en/us/handheld-recorders/handheld-recorders/h1n-handy-recorder/ , which can also be connected to an Android device via a USB cable. The initial setup, however, requires a bit of research and experimentation.

Oh, Rachel, I’m so sorry you didn’t have more time for each other. That difficult decision came too soon. But you made the world a better place by giving your darling Mowgli love and a home. And she, in turn, left a mark in your life forever.

    Hi everyone,
I enjoy all your entries, as usual.

Here is my attempt at “Duality”. The rhythm part is quite difficult for me because of the chord shapes and changes. And even though I used a metronome, there are inaccuracies in the accompaniment. But I’m satisfied with the video editing. 😀
    See you in June!

    Hi everyone,
here’s my attempt of EP015. I call it “Lazy fingers’ blues”. It’s only 75% speed and it’s obvious that I haven’t practiced enough. 😉

    Hi, everybody,
here’s my new video of the Prelude in C major. I was hoping for a perfect performance, but I’m still a few hundred hours away. 😉 So I guess I should be satisfied. After all, there is an improvement since last time.

    Hi,
there is a few pieces in RC101 which I would like relearn. For this month challenge a I´ve chosen Steven´s beautiful fingerstyle arrangement of Prelude in C by J. S. Bach.

Here is the video from April 2022:

@Kasia , did you write to Ben? Unfortunately, I don’t have any message. Will you come to the retreat in Kostelec?

    Hi, everyone!
You’re all doing a great job. I enjoy watching your submissions.

I managed to finish my very first chord melody arrangement. I had a lot of work with the notation software, it took me many hours. The last edit to the notation and tablature was made today when I noticed that the number of beats in one measure didn’t match.
I was able to practice the song with an orchestra. I found a great version of the song on YT by Melody Makers. All I had to do was put the capo on the first fret and I could play along. Only my overture is shorter. 😉 The link to their performance is below my YT video. There is also a link to the sheet music with tablature.
Overall, learning the song helped me practice double (triple) stops, which I still struggle with, and also rhythm – I couldn’t have played it well without a metronome.
I know you don’t know the song, but I hope you enjoy listening to it at least a little.

@avicularia , I’m sorry you’re having such bad luck. I’ve unfortunately had a similar experience.

I recently bought a cheap ukulele and had a pickup installed at the dealer in Germany. (Localy offered ukuleles with pickups already installed were horrible – Flight was no exception). I expected that when they installed the pickup, they might check to see if the ukulele was in tune. But when the ukulele arrived, the C and E strings were significantly out of tune from the 4th fret! I was desperate.
If I hadn’t had it customized, I would have returned it.
Luckily, I found a luthier who adjusted the saddle, so the ukulele now tunes quite well.

Anyway, after the experience of choosing and buying, I would now contact Alex from the Southern Ukulele Store https://www.southernukulelestore.co.uk from whom I bought my Moonbird. Check out their youtube channel.
A full ukulele setup is included. They will also advise on ukulele choice if you email them.
Right now I am really interested in the L.Luthier Le M6 Solid Mahagony tenor ukulele. Too bad I have exhausted my budget. 😢

    Previous experience:
About five years ago I was picking out a concert ukulele with a similar budget to yours. Luckily I found a local dealer, so I picked about 5 ukulele models and went to try them out. All the ukuleles looked beautiful, but none of them were in tune! I ended up leaving with a more expensive Koaloha Opio, which I had in my selection just for comparison – I didn’t really like it until I tried to play it. 😉

    Hi,

    Execution:
I want to complete my first chord melody arrangement (including notation and tablature) of a song I heard often on the radio as a child and have loved ever since. Probably mostly because of the lyrics.
It is the song “Život je jen náhoda” (“Life is just a coincidence”) by Jaroslav Ježek (lyrics by Jiří Voskovec, Jan Werich), which was first heard in the 1932 movie. Only the second part of the song with lyrics (loosely translated) was played on the radio:

“Life is just a coincidence, once you’re down, once you’re up.
Life flows like water, and death is like the sea.
Everyone reaches the sea, some sooner and some later,
whoever loves in life, let him not lose hope.
When you see the miracles in life that only love can do,
goldfish fly above the clouds, then you’ll understand,
that life is like water that love turns into wine,
that love is an coincidence and without it there is no happiness.”

I learned this part during a noodling session this summer. But I’d like to arrange the first part of the song, which I hardly know. So I’ve found an accordion arrangement and I’m going to convert it from G major to A major so that it’s in the same key as the second part of the song, which I already have arranged. So I’ll have to incorporate everything I know from music theory. I find working with notation software challenging. By the end of the month, I want to record the final video and have the music score completed, including the tablature.

    Application:
I’d like to have the whole arrangement ready by the end of the week so I can practice the song based on it. I will definitely be editing the arrangement during the month. To practice playing, I will divide the piece into several parts, which I will practice separately. I will end each day by playing the entire song.

    Evaluation:
I’ll see at the end of the month how it went.

    Hi,
I can’t recommend a specific brand because most ukuleles in this price range are made in China. So it depends on your luck what piece you come across.
In general, make sure the ukulele has at least 17 frets – there are arrangements here on RC101 that go that far.
And, of course, it should be in tune along the entire length of the fingerboard (so that it’s not a half tone off at the 12th fret).
From my own experience, I also recommend avoiding ukulele models that have sharp edges on the body – it cuts into the leaning right arm, making playing such an instrument uncomfortable.
If you don’t have a dealer nearby where you can try out multiple ukuleles, choose an online store where it’s easy to return the ukulele if it doesn’t fit your expectations.
Also, I wouldn’t completely reject models with laminated bodies. When they’re well built, they often play better than cheap ukuleles with solid fronts. And they can withstand humidity fluctuations better.

    Good luck with your choice!
And let me know what you choose, I’m curious. 😉
