janaq1ParticipantHi everyone,
thanks for sharing your recordings. You are so inspiring!I hesitated about what to choose for this month. In the end, I chose Spanish Romance… For a long time, I refused to learn this song on the ukulele. As a teenager, I learned it on the classical guitar, and it is one of three songs that I am still able to play somehow on the guitar when I grab it up about five times a year. Of course, it’s imperfect and worse than it used to be… And I carried the same flaws over to this ukulele version. I couldn’t break away from the guitar fingerings, so in parts my version sounds a little different from Steven’s arrangement. (I read that there are several sheet music versions of this song.)
@Andrew , please exclude me from this month’s drawing.January 31, 2026 at 3:49 pm in reply to: Participate in the January 2026 Member Challenge – You Decide What To Work On! #79761

janaq1ParticipantHi and Happy New Year, everyone!
I was looking forward to Andrew announcing this challenge, just like last year. And I got what I hoped for. 😀
1) Execution – I want to finally finish the Nest Level Strumming Techniques course, which I’ve started several times but always put off until next time. I feel that now is the time.
2) Application – Learn Matt’s song “Crossing Hemispheres,” where I will use all the techniques learned from the course.
3) Evaluation – At the end of January, I´ll post a video showing my progress on the song.
janaq1ParticipantWow, amazing performance, @abster ! I wish I could play difficult and such long songs with the same ease as you do.

janaq1ParticipantHi everyone!
It is a joy to watch your submissions.
@The_Bumble_Bard – you made my day. I love Ukebert´s story. Here’s my take on Interstellar.
Please exclude me from the draw this month.
janaq1ParticipantHi @Andrew,
great work on the new websites! The new filtering options are really pleasing.
But I ran into one issue and I don’t know if it’s just my web browser or if it’s set up that way (or it’s not complete for this test page).
When I select more variants in the Difficulty level category – for example Level 1 + level 2, only 3 lessons are displayed. So I think these are songs that are classified by you in both levels due to their difficulty. But I would prefer (and I believe others would too) if all songs with difficulty 1 or 2 or a combination of both were displayed, i.e. over 250 songs.
The same applies to the selection of genres. When I select Country, 3 songs are displayed. The other genres that I can select are only those in which the already filtered songs were also classified. I would prefer the option to select more genres.
In fact, for each filter category with checkboxes, I can imagine a situation where I would want to select multiple options.
I am attaching a picture for comparison with your picture.
(Before I check “High G”, the quantity is the same for all categories as in your picture.)August 31, 2025 at 7:49 am in reply to: Participate in the August 2025 Member Challenge – Free For All! #75672
janaq1ParticipantHi everyone,
I am so impressed with how you have all taken on this challenge. It is a joy to see your entries.I really enjoyed learning “12th Street Rag”.
Every time I choose a song to learn, I tell myself that I have to start recording videos about my progress during the month. Not because I’d be less nervous about the final recording, but so that I could hear and see the flaws earlier — not on the last day of recording — and focus on them more.
Maybe next time… I’ll make it a side task… Again. 😉
@grannieannie
Yes, Matt’s tips and advice are always worth it. But for me, the goal at the end of the month is to perform the best I can after a month of hard work. So I followed Matt’s other advice from an earlier lesson and set a limited time window for recording. I record what I can, and then I choose something, even if I’m not satisfied (and I’m almost never satisfied 😅). It’s like musicians in the studio — they also record until they’re satisfied. And that’s where experience and hours of practice come in — some get it right on the first take and some don’t. It’s going to take a long time before I’m satisfied with my performance on the first attempt. But I take it as part of the process, I don’t fight it.
janaq1ParticipantHi @The_Bumble_Bard,
thank you for your kind and encouraging words.
It’s true that this community is special — we inspire and motivate each other to keep practising. But thanks to you, the atmosphere here is more vibrant and relaxed.
For myself, I can say that if it weren’t for you, I would express myself here much less. Now I force myself to step out of my comfort zone, write something, translate it into English, and “polish” it so that it makes sense.
So thank you, Rachael! 😉
janaq1ParticipantHello Sammy!
So nice to see you here, @4stringBoy.
I was looking forward to your first arrangement for RockClass 101, and it’s awesome! I’m definitely adding it to my list of songs to learn (which is growing faster than I can keep up with). Hopefully, this arrangement will be part of this autumn’s challenge. 😉August 8, 2025 at 2:17 pm in reply to: Participate in the August 2025 Member Challenge – Free For All! #75435
janaq1ParticipantHi everyone,
I’ve been planning to learn strumming techniques such as Claw Stroke, Triplet & Fan Strum, and Split Stroke for a long time. Now is the time.
Execution: Learn “12th Street Rag” taught by Christopher and master new strumming techniques.
Application: Practice the song at a slow tempo and gradually speed up. Go back to a slower pace when I make a mistake.
Evaluation: The result should be a smooth tempo throughout the entire song and a foundation for other songs using the mentioned strumming techniques.I look forward to all submissions. The selection is very interesting.

janaq1Participant@Andrew – Thank you very much. I really appreciate your praise and all the previous feedback.
@gi_gi_ , @The_Bumble_Bard – Thank you for your kind words. 😊
@jasdel – Thank you. But don’t worry, you’ll learn the song one day. I remember three years ago I gave up, too – I couldn’t learn it at all. So I was really surprised how well it fit me this time.June 21, 2025 at 12:16 pm in reply to: Participate in the June 2025 Member Challenge – WIN $2,250 Kanile’a Ukulele #74248
