My apologies to Tobias for not being able to do his beautiful original some justice…

I originally started out the month learning the simplified chord melody and I probably should have stuck with that, but then I went and tried the performance version too late. I don’t know where the month went because I had every intention of posting EARLY, but here I am at the 11th hour…again. And yet, so many flaws (the second ending of Melody A is particularly bad and my pull-offs/slides definitely need improvement in clarity).

You can try different strings if it’s just a matter of sound that you’re not completely convinced of. A great deal of difference can be made just by trying a new set of strings. Also, I’m not a fan of Aquila coming standard on most ukes.

To add to what @anirbaf said, I like my Flight travel uke the least of all the ukes I own. I realized that I don’t care for sopranos in the first place, but on top of that, the arch back shape of the body makes it especially awkward to hold. I think the new models come equipped with strap buttons to help with that though.

I have the Flight TUS50 (standard neck, not the new long-neck version). Although it has a laminate walnut top, it still sounds like a plastic uke. It’s small and good to travel with, but that wood top is very thin, so I don’t know how durable it is compared to an all-plastic design.

There’s nothing wrong with slow and steady if you have good technique. The rest will come with time and you’ll build up speed again with muscle memory.

There was a time I went through a slump for 3 or 4 months and I found it was hard to be motivated for whatever reason. When I finally did pick up the uke again, my calluses had gone and playing was awkward. You can either do finger exercises or play old songs you’ve learned already just to get familiar again.

Everyone is different and I think you should do what makes you happy. As in, if you want to learn a new song, you should. There really isn’t a wrong way to get back into it. If it suits you, you should just do what draws you.

Keep practicing, @tric_o_tronic! Because this medley is so iconic and recognizable to just about anybody, it’ll be a cool party trick when you play it. 😉

It’s not playing the & of the 4th beat from measures 14-22. Sounds like it’s being cut off through the whole section on just that last beat after measure 13 until it gets to measure 23.

The Star Wars Medley was a choice in the July 2019 challenge if you ever want to go back to some of the other members’ submissions and read/see what they got as feedback.

Well, it’s not perfect, but it never is after hitting record. Here it is complete with some mutes and buzzes sprinkled in for color. 😂

That’s much better than how I’m playing at the moment! Great job.

Only one entry per person will count each month, but you can still post more than one song for others to enjoy as long as it’s part of the challenge song list. I like watching others’ videos and reading the feedback they receive so I can learn from them, too.

You might only get feedback from Stephen or Andrew on the first one, but that’s my favorite part of the challenge – where they give pointers on what they thought you did well or could improve on.

*EDIT* You might be able to go back into my past forum replies to see my last few entries, but the forum has been acting kinda funny lately so you might get an error page. 🤷🏻‍♀️
