kkaszubaParticipantHello, Andrew! I’d love to see you do a lesson on playing Dueling Banjos on the ukulele!
kkaszubaParticipantI am surprised not to find “Shallow” by Lady Gaga already requested. This would sound great on the ukulele! Thanks
kkaszubaParticipantPeaceful Easy Feelin’ by the Eagles. Has a great guitar riff that, I think, could be arranged for ukulele. Thanks!

Here is my attempt at “People Are Strange” for the June Challenge:
This month I used my computer’s webcam to record this, rather than the camera I’ve been using. I don’t know why, but whenever I play the full B chord, it sounds like I’m getting a short in the chord plugged into an amp. Yet, I’m not playing an electrified ukulele — it’s acoustic! <sigh> I tried several takes, but always the same, so apologies in advance.
kkaszubaParticipantHey, Andrew! How ’bout Phil Collins’ “I Can Hear It In The Air Tonight” in a solo arrangement?
kkaszubaParticipantHi, Andrew! I’d love to see the Hawaiian songs category build. I know you have a classic arrangement of “Over The Rainbow,” but would it be possible for you to arrange a solo arrangement of the IZ version of that song? Might have to be a duet with background strumming.

kkaszubaParticipantNo, rickymike, something happened when I uploaded the video to YouTube, I think. Perhaps during its formatting or compression process, the audio delay resulted. This has never happened before, but I think the entire audio is there at any rate.

I’m not happy with my performance here, but my schedule won’t allow for me to record it again later this week. For some reason with this song in particular, the quality of my playing it varies greatly from day to day…today wasn’t a good day, but hope you’ll accept it as an entry into the challenge.
It has been 35 years since I’ve played Malagueña on the guitar, but I love flamenco, so was happy that this was one of the choices this month. After all these years, I may be confusing it with another flamenco song I used to play, but I believe the arrangement I played on the guitar had some additional elements. Although I included everything in Andrew’s arrangement, I hope you’ll allow me the license…I added a short riff between measures 70 & 71. I’d be interested in your critique.
Recording these monthly challenges has been great for me because I don’t know that I’d be aware of some of the things I need to improve upon otherwise. For instance, in this video, I see that I was getting a lot of buzzing because I’m pulling on the C string instead of placing my fingers straight down behind the fret. I wouldn’t have realized that but for critiquing my own video — thank you!

kkaszubaParticipantWow, thanks, Andrew! Continuing to work on Loke Lani with your comments in mind while starting to work on May’s challenge — Malagueña!

I have been playing ukulele for approximately 6 months, so the triple strum is still quite a challenge for me, but I’m enjoying working to get it faster and smoother. I started learning Loke Lani 2 weeks ago as I only recently joined Rock Class 101.
For the first 4 months or so, I was playing with a local kanikapila, but it required singing (not my strong suit!) and only strumming chords. I wanted more so that, eventually, I can play solo arrangements in which I don’t need to embarrass myself by singing. Rock Class 101 is proving perfect!
This is my first time entering a challenge, so I hope I did so correctly. I would have liked to learn “Hone A Ka Wai,” but my ukulele is strung with a low-G, so I thought Loke Lani a better choice. Guess I need to win this Kanile’a P-1 Pineapple Ukulele so I’ll have a second strung with a high-G!
